today we'll be starting a new series<\/p>\n
from the book of micah<\/p>\n

today we share the story of oscar<\/p>\n
groning<\/p>\n
he was an ss officer at auschwitz death<\/p>\n
camp<\/p>\n
where more than 1 million jews were<\/p>\n

at that time he was only 24 years old<\/p>\n
after germany lost the war oscar<\/p>\n
uh groningen actually returned to live<\/p>\n
in a small<\/p>\n
town and just went silent<\/p>\n
speed but when he was 94 years old he<\/p>\n
was actually arrested and taken<\/p>\n
to court after living in freedom for 70<\/p>\n
years<\/p>\n
and at that court oscar groening was<\/p>\n
judged for his crimes<\/p>\n
he was not able to escape judgment<\/p>\n
justice<\/p>\n
always<\/p>\n
but in reality there were 800 000<\/p>\n
ss soldiers that survived world war ii<\/p>\n
let me connect soft soul<\/p>\n
and about 100 000 of them were<\/p>\n
investigated for the genocide of the<\/p>\n
jews<\/p>\n
but only 6 200 were charged only<\/p>\n
a little more than 100 actually received<\/p>\n
judgment<\/p>\n
most who received judgment were released<\/p>\n
only after<\/p>\n
himself died while awaiting repeal he<\/p>\n
did not<\/p>\n
actually serve a day in prison<\/p>\n
as we know human judgment is imperfect<\/p>\n
people who are not guilty are punished<\/p>\n
those<\/p>\n
who who are guilty are freed and and<\/p>\n
flourish<\/p>\n
he will surely judge every wrong<\/p>\n
that has been done on the earth every<\/p>\n
wrongdoer<\/p>\n
verse 2 of micah 1 saying that god will<\/p>\n
come to judge<\/p>\n
everyone and everything on earth because<\/p>\n
everyone is guilty<\/p>\n
what<\/p>\n
yes that god is coming to judge everyone<\/p>\n
and everything<\/p>\n
on earth because everyone is guilty<\/p>\n
of and god is<\/p>\n
uh above all things try makeup sorry<\/p>\n
so uh uh people in those days oh sorry<\/p>\n
yeah um<\/p>\n
okay uh so in those days uh<\/p>\n
that people built temples on uh for the<\/p>\n
gods that they worship these were built<\/p>\n
on top<\/p>\n
of the mountains<\/p>\n
and god will come to judge this world<\/p>\n
because<\/p>\n
humanity chooses to worship other gods<\/p>\n
verse 5 actually focuses on the sins of<\/p>\n
israel and judah<\/p>\n
says that their sins were that they held<\/p>\n
these high places they had these high<\/p>\n
places<\/p>\n
in the temple but they also worshiped<\/p>\n
other guys<\/p>\n
of someone being married a man being<\/p>\n
married to his wife and yet having a<\/p>\n
mistress<\/p>\n
living in the same home with them<\/p>\n
we make idols that we worship in order<\/p>\n
to control that which we cannot control<\/p>\n
for example we just cannot control our<\/p>\n
lives you know if we if we think if i<\/p>\n
have money<\/p>\n
we can control my lack i can control my<\/p>\n
life<\/p>\n
timmy white verse 13 confirms this<\/p>\n
understanding reveals this by<\/p>\n
using the example of war chariots<\/p>\n
in those days chariots these war<\/p>\n
chariots were the most effective<\/p>\n
weapon in battle i take it<\/p>\n
if you think about today's weaponry that<\/p>\n
you know countries have it'd be similar<\/p>\n
to like a nuclear<\/p>\n
weapon<\/p>\n
you know a country that has a lot of<\/p>\n
these chariots a lot of this power will<\/p>\n
be<\/p>\n
stable and able to control its destiny<\/p>\n
but god said through micah here that he<\/p>\n
will come to judge us<\/p>\n
because we turn to the idols that we<\/p>\n
have created to protect us<\/p>\n
what are the idols that the world<\/p>\n
worships<\/p>\n
uh in such a way that some are even<\/p>\n
ready to sacrifice give their own lives<\/p>\n
to protect<\/p>\n
you know i like you lord massey<\/p>\n
so what are what are the chariots that<\/p>\n
the you know the war chariots in our own<\/p>\n
lives that we entrust<\/p>\n
our lives to hello me<\/p>\n
what are the war chariots in our own<\/p>\n
lives that we think if i had these if i<\/p>\n
had this<\/p>\n
if i had this chariot my life would be<\/p>\n
happy i would have a victorious<\/p>\n
but<\/p>\n
if we had an international organization<\/p>\n
that would coordinate everything between<\/p>\n
countries and<\/p>\n
establish peace you know we would have<\/p>\n
no more war<\/p>\n
uh technologies<\/p>\n
or we may think if if the world and our<\/p>\n
societies just<\/p>\n
had advanced technologies<\/p>\n
that would help us we could progress and<\/p>\n
our problems would be<\/p>\n
greatly reduced<\/p>\n
or our world our society may love and<\/p>\n
worship<\/p>\n
money because we think money can solve<\/p>\n
our problems<\/p>\n
a certain form of governance or a<\/p>\n
certain organization<\/p>\n
can come and solve various problems of<\/p>\n
humanity<\/p>\n
or we may think the world and society<\/p>\n
can trust in medical innovations<\/p>\n
to overcome and conquer health problems<\/p>\n
so we live in a world in a society that<\/p>\n
presents us with these kinds of values<\/p>\n
every day<\/p>\n
technology<\/p>\n
so if we listen too much to these again<\/p>\n
and again we slowly begin<\/p>\n
to believe in these values we begin to<\/p>\n
believe that yes technology or<\/p>\n
or money or modern inventions and<\/p>\n
medical innovations<\/p>\n
can help us they can save us from that<\/p>\n
which would seek to destroy us<\/p>\n
friends it's not wrong to think about<\/p>\n
you know what are the<\/p>\n
the war chariots in our own mind<\/p>\n
computer<\/p>\n
it's not wrong for us to use uh<\/p>\n
ipads and computers and various<\/p>\n
technologies or to have money<\/p>\n
it's not wrong to believe that some<\/p>\n
financial<\/p>\n
or government systems are better and<\/p>\n
than others<\/p>\n
it's not wrong to seek medical attention<\/p>\n
or to go to a doctor to get<\/p>\n
vaccines<\/p>\n
the chariot in and of itself uh is not<\/p>\n
uh the problem uh the problem is<\/p>\n
within our hearts it lies within our<\/p>\n
hearts<\/p>\n
uh<\/p>\n
and the book of jeremy versus jeremiah<\/p>\n
verse 17 uh verse 9 chapter 17 verse 9<\/p>\n
we read this the heart is deceitful<\/p>\n
above all things and beyond cure who can<\/p>\n
understand it<\/p>\n
so we must uh guard our hearts<\/p>\n
not let these war cherries become idols<\/p>\n
that we love<\/p>\n
and that we worship<\/p>\n
so here's the question how do we know<\/p>\n
that our chariot<\/p>\n
has become an idol that we love and<\/p>\n
we have to constantly be examining our<\/p>\n
hearts in this<\/p>\n
thing so<\/p>\n
so one example would be as we examine<\/p>\n
our hearts<\/p>\n
about what might reveal to us has become<\/p>\n
an idol<\/p>\n
is if we don't have this thing we don't<\/p>\n
have this chariot and yet<\/p>\n
we still believe it would help us if we<\/p>\n
had it and so<\/p>\n
we will do we do anything it takes to to<\/p>\n
get that to achieve that<\/p>\n
so for example if we think you know the<\/p>\n
war chariot in our own lives is<\/p>\n
money right financial uh wealth if we<\/p>\n
think well<\/p>\n
that's what would help me that's what<\/p>\n
would give me safety stability then we<\/p>\n
will do whatever we can we will work<\/p>\n
extremely hard to make money<\/p>\n
out another<\/p>\n
example would be uh as we examine our<\/p>\n
hearts if we already have this thing we<\/p>\n
already have this<\/p>\n
word chariot we will do whatever we can<\/p>\n
to keep it<\/p>\n
and we may think because we have this<\/p>\n
thing uh<\/p>\n
we're proud and we're arrogant of the<\/p>\n
fact that we have it we have confidence<\/p>\n
in it<\/p>\n
or if we're terrified or even paranoid<\/p>\n
scared of of<\/p>\n
losing whatever we have uh that could be<\/p>\n
a<\/p>\n
something that reveals that it's a an<\/p>\n
idol to us<\/p>\n
so an example could be health you know<\/p>\n
if we if we think<\/p>\n
if if our war chariot is good health<\/p>\n
then<\/p>\n
we will focus on our good health we will<\/p>\n
feel proud if we're healthy we might<\/p>\n
feel arrogant<\/p>\n
and and even have over confidence in the<\/p>\n
fact that we're healthy<\/p>\n
more importantly uh our war chariots may<\/p>\n
become<\/p>\n
the idols we worship uh and and if we<\/p>\n
were to lose them or if we lose them<\/p>\n
when we lose them we<\/p>\n
we become hopeless and depressed<\/p>\n
even thinking about you know sometimes<\/p>\n
in in the financial<\/p>\n
realm in this in this world with the you<\/p>\n
know the like a crash of the stock<\/p>\n
market even people would be moved to<\/p>\n
take<\/p>\n
their own lives because of their idol of<\/p>\n
money<\/p>\n
you know what i'm saying<\/p>\n
these are signs and examples that our<\/p>\n
are abnormal to let this you know war<\/p>\n
chariot become an idol<\/p>\n
that we would love and worship people<\/p>\n
and have an abnormal heart causes<\/p>\n
very you know various and intense<\/p>\n
emotions<\/p>\n
so for example uh you know feeling of<\/p>\n
despair if our<\/p>\n
if our political party loses an election<\/p>\n
control witness<\/p>\n
or even a like a feeling of fear that we<\/p>\n
may experience when we can't control our<\/p>\n
lives<\/p>\n
uh because of of uh covent and its<\/p>\n
result<\/p>\n
its uh situation in our own lives<\/p>\n
so friends we will be judged because our<\/p>\n
hearts turn away from god to<\/p>\n
worship other gods allah<\/p>\n
verse four talks about how nothing can<\/p>\n
stop god's<\/p>\n
verse 7 reads all her carved images<\/p>\n
shall be beaten to pieces all her wages<\/p>\n
shall be burned with fire and all her<\/p>\n
idols i will lay to waste<\/p>\n
god dares his people to bring their<\/p>\n
chariots to come and fight against him<\/p>\n
and our chariots cannot stop his<\/p>\n
on<\/p>\n
and in this case in this text god is<\/p>\n
actually god was sending the assyrians<\/p>\n
and the babylonians<\/p>\n
as instruments of his judgment let me me<\/p>\n
lord my signing i'm not<\/p>\n
only dying and there were no chariots<\/p>\n
that could fight<\/p>\n
against these superpowers<\/p>\n
without dying they could never avoid<\/p>\n
god's judgments<\/p>\n
now that that judgment was was only a<\/p>\n
warning sign of the final judgment that<\/p>\n
the bible speaks of<\/p>\n
christ<\/p>\n
and no chariots can stop god's final<\/p>\n
you know young<\/p>\n
and and today you know we still see<\/p>\n
continual warning signs of<\/p>\n
god's final judgment<\/p>\n
every time we think uh that our own war<\/p>\n
cherry is powerful we<\/p>\n
discover that we cannot stop god's<\/p>\n
you know uh<\/p>\n
you know when we put our trust in<\/p>\n
technology for example we<\/p>\n
find it to be fragile um<\/p>\n
just as an example of the fragility of<\/p>\n
technology you know scientists warn that<\/p>\n
giant solar flares or large solar storms<\/p>\n
can actually<\/p>\n
render most of the electronics that we<\/p>\n
have on earth<\/p>\n
useless cabin<\/p>\n
we've already seen even the<\/p>\n
vulnerability of the stock markets the<\/p>\n
financial markets you know<\/p>\n
you could have a financial crash a<\/p>\n
collapse and a millionaire<\/p>\n
can become a popper overnight<\/p>\n
and more recently we've seen how the<\/p>\n
world<\/p>\n
has been brought to its knees by a tiny<\/p>\n
virus<\/p>\n
that has made everyone have to stop and<\/p>\n
has led to hopelessness<\/p>\n
don't forget that you know covet<\/p>\n
although it spreads easily the mortality<\/p>\n
rate is very low<\/p>\n
ebola i mean imagine what would happen<\/p>\n
if<\/p>\n
the world experienced the pandemic with<\/p>\n
an even<\/p>\n
higher infectious rate and the in the<\/p>\n
same mortality rate as<\/p>\n
like the ebola virus which was you know<\/p>\n
greater<\/p>\n
uh than 50 percent<\/p>\n
deaths and ebola having greater than 50<\/p>\n
you don't have candy technologies<\/p>\n
you know even even with this current<\/p>\n
situation<\/p>\n
it's very difficult for the medical<\/p>\n
technology and to to cope<\/p>\n
with<\/p>\n
our war chariots really<\/p>\n
uh cannot save us from god's judgments<\/p>\n
you know once um people fled to<\/p>\n
communism you know a government<\/p>\n
structure communism to help<\/p>\n
the concern<\/p>\n
but now people many people see and<\/p>\n
understand that communism is is a<\/p>\n
chariot a war chariot that cannot save<\/p>\n
and other you know nowadays people see<\/p>\n
other government<\/p>\n
government systems as solutions to the<\/p>\n
problems of the world<\/p>\n
relational capital pursuit i am not kong<\/p>\n
i'm not going<\/p>\n
but really only time will prove the<\/p>\n
powerlessness<\/p>\n
of these war chariots<\/p>\n
yeah these you know these chariots these<\/p>\n
were chariots again are trying to just<\/p>\n
solve humanity's problems<\/p>\n
right in the wrong panhan<\/p>\n
but we're looking to solve it in the<\/p>\n
wrong place the problem<\/p>\n
the main problem lies within our own<\/p>\n
man's heart man's heart brings god's<\/p>\n
and these war chariots cannot stop god's<\/p>\n
so how are we to respond to god's<\/p>\n
judgment you know<\/p>\n
when you think about um an alarm right<\/p>\n
that's giving a warning it can be<\/p>\n
very loud you make up a lot of me my<\/p>\n
makeup uh hair fire drills lots<\/p>\n
of yummy<\/p>\n
the loudness is for a reason it's there<\/p>\n
for a reason<\/p>\n
i mean imagine if the building was truly<\/p>\n
on fire it wasn't just a drill it was a<\/p>\n
real<\/p>\n
fire knight<\/p>\n
the loudness of the alarm would be of<\/p>\n
utmost importance<\/p>\n
why because the alarm would<\/p>\n
waken us up from our normal life it<\/p>\n
would warn us<\/p>\n
and help us to run to flee and find<\/p>\n
refuge<\/p>\n
so why why did micah declare god's<\/p>\n
we have had<\/p>\n
it was to awaken us awaken us from our<\/p>\n
sense of normalcy and to run to seek<\/p>\n
refuge in god<\/p>\n
mikhail<\/p>\n
proclaims god's judgment to tell us that<\/p>\n
we have sinned against him in the peril<\/p>\n
of judgment is upon us<\/p>\n
you know verse 8 speaks to the<\/p>\n
appropriate response<\/p>\n
to god's judgment is is to weep and to<\/p>\n
wail<\/p>\n
um<\/p>\n
verse 9 says her wound is incurable<\/p>\n
for example you know just<\/p>\n
they die it's an incurable wound we<\/p>\n
cannot<\/p>\n
heal ourselves<\/p>\n
then in verse 10 we see micah lament<\/p>\n
over the coming judgment<\/p>\n
of god upon the royal house of david<\/p>\n
friends if we know that god's judgment<\/p>\n
will surely come<\/p>\n
and that no one can stop it we we must<\/p>\n
grieve over our sinful hearts and over<\/p>\n
our society's sinful problems<\/p>\n
but this grief is a is a good thing<\/p>\n
the apostle paul wrote a letter uh to<\/p>\n
christians in corinth<\/p>\n
admonishing them and actually it caused<\/p>\n
them grief<\/p>\n
i mean he heard that what he had<\/p>\n
encouraged them by it actually caused<\/p>\n
them grief he wrote back to them and<\/p>\n
this is what he wrote<\/p>\n
apostle paul wrote this as it is i<\/p>\n
rejoice not because you were grieved but<\/p>\n
because you were grieved<\/p>\n
into repenting for you felt a godly<\/p>\n
grief so that you suffered no loss<\/p>\n
through us<\/p>\n
for godly grief produces a repentance<\/p>\n
that leads to salvation<\/p>\n
without regret whereas worldly grief<\/p>\n
produces death<\/p>\n
so friends micah the book of micah<\/p>\n
announces a judgment<\/p>\n
that brought a grief it brings grief to<\/p>\n
awaken us<\/p>\n
to help us see that we have sinned<\/p>\n
against god and<\/p>\n
elect a tiny number of people<\/p>\n
and this grief leads us to repentance it<\/p>\n
leads us to run<\/p>\n
to god for refuge yes<\/p>\n
sir<\/p>\n
only jesus christ can stop<\/p>\n
god's judgment on those uh<\/p>\n
as those who who look to him and trust<\/p>\n
trust in him<\/p>\n
yes<\/p>\n
christ died on the cross to bear god's<\/p>\n
on our behalf<\/p>\n
thus it is only jesus christ that can<\/p>\n
overcome<\/p>\n
and has overcome god's judgments<\/p>\n

the story again of oscar gronin and in<\/p>\n
his court<\/p>\n
case there was an elderly jewish woman<\/p>\n
named eva core<\/p>\n
who was actually a witness brought as a<\/p>\n
witness<\/p>\n
against oscar groningen's during his<\/p>\n
trial for these atrocities done<\/p>\n
while he was an ss officer at auschwitz<\/p>\n
to<\/p>\n
and what was so shocking in this account<\/p>\n
is that she<\/p>\n
uh came down during the court case from<\/p>\n
her witness from the witness stand<\/p>\n
and said that she had forgiven oscar<\/p>\n
groningen<\/p>\n
and everyone that had brought harm to<\/p>\n
her<\/p>\n
and she came down and she embraced him<\/p>\n

embraced<\/p>\n
oscar gronin and later she said uh that<\/p>\n
she<\/p>\n
felt like she could defeat her enemies<\/p>\n
by making them friends<\/p>\n
friends we have sinned against god<\/p>\n
infinitely more than oscar granite has<\/p>\n
sinned against<\/p>\n
evacue<\/p>\n
henron and yet god<\/p>\n
gave his only begotten son<\/p>\n
jesus to make us who were once his<\/p>\n
enemies<\/p>\n
into friends he did this jesus<\/p>\n
dying on the cross bearing the judgment<\/p>\n
of his enemies us<\/p>\n
friends this is the good news that comes<\/p>\n
with judgment<\/p>\n
that he would judge everyone on earth<\/p>\n
because we were<\/p>\n
his enemies and we were worshiping other<\/p>\n
gods<\/p>\n
but god wanted micah to go out and<\/p>\n
proclaim<\/p>\n
his judgment not because he's a sadist<\/p>\n
who enjoys tormenting others<\/p>\n
but instead god longs that men that<\/p>\n
humans would<\/p>\n
would have grief over their rebellion<\/p>\n
that we would grieve over our rebellion<\/p>\n
against god<\/p>\n
if today's you're hearing this and you<\/p>\n
realize you know i i'm not<\/p>\n
one that calls upon jesus as<\/p>\n
my savior we invite you i invite you to<\/p>\n
come and look<\/p>\n
at this and to come to him run to him<\/p>\n
god must judge those who um<\/p>\n
rebel against him and he wants to save<\/p>\n
you<\/p>\n
from that and he longs to save us yes<\/p>\n
and i want to invite you to come<\/p>\n
to god to rest in him be secure<\/p>\n
therefore in light of all of this god's<\/p>\n
judgments<\/p>\n
become good news that we must remind<\/p>\n
ourselves of every day<\/p>\n
and then we and then we can proclaim it<\/p>\n
we can share this with everyone<\/p>\n
