it tells us about the search for leaving<\/p>\n
and pleasure<\/p>\n

unable<\/p>\n

what will happen<\/p>\n
that's a long tips<\/p>\n
we<\/p>\n
don't have confidence<\/p>\n
and with good reason<\/p>\n
meaningless is repeated nine times<\/p>\n
throughout the section<\/p>\n
the author says everything is<\/p>\n
meaningless<\/p>\n
and then in verse 17 he says and so I<\/p>\n
hated my name<\/p>\n
we read this and think this isn't the<\/p>\n
Bible<\/p>\n
and one of the reasons is here is<\/p>\n
because Ecclesiastes offers us a unique<\/p>\n
perspective<\/p>\n
mentioned last week the author of this<\/p>\n
book is addressed fulfill it<\/p>\n
verse 13 shows us that he is going to<\/p>\n
use his wisdom to try several<\/p>\n
experiments maybe yeah<\/p>\n
he's gonna do these good experiments to<\/p>\n
see if everything is<\/p>\n
or if there's something more substantial<\/p>\n
America<\/p>\n
so this is the secret understanding<\/p>\n
enthusiastes language<\/p>\n
it's a series of experience<\/p>\n
basically a professor says let's live<\/p>\n
like this<\/p>\n
what do we see what does it mean does<\/p>\n
this work okay<\/p>\n
so we're going to look at this journey<\/p>\n
that Professor takes us off<\/p>\n
because it's the same Journey that all<\/p>\n
of us<\/p>\n
the search for meaning<\/p>\n

and what we see here is not that life is<\/p>\n

but that life is meaningless under the<\/p>\n

there's only life<\/p>\n

the secular mindset<\/p>\n
and you don't have to be an atheist to<\/p>\n
have this hand<\/p>\n

so it's possible to believe in the<\/p>\n
government and yet have the same kind of<\/p>\n
mindset that will help<\/p>\n
us<\/p>\n
to live like this life is other<\/p>\n
things<\/p>\n
and to think because this life is all<\/p>\n
there is I must find my happiness here<\/p>\n
get me<\/p>\n
so Helen says okay let's try it okay<\/p>\n
so he tries to find meaning in three<\/p>\n
different things<\/p>\n
he first tries to find meaning<\/p>\n
so it says he undertook great projects<\/p>\n
yeah you build houses<\/p>\n
all kinds of food trees<\/p>\n
and absolutely<\/p>\n
surely in Paradise he would find me<\/p>\n
my words<\/p>\n
in verse 10 he says I deny myself<\/p>\n
nothing my eyes desire I refuse my heart<\/p>\n
I like<\/p>\n
verse 11 says yet when I surveyed all<\/p>\n
that my hands are done and what I have<\/p>\n
told to achieve everything was<\/p>\n
meaningless chasing after<\/p>\n
nothing<\/p>\n
this phrase chasing it was great<\/p>\n
we got nothing maybe for hell it says<\/p>\n
this is what pursuing pleasure is like<\/p>\n
we can do it and it feels good but yeah<\/p>\n
but ultimately<\/p>\n
there's nothing there I'm not looking at<\/p>\n
the height<\/p>\n
so you might recognize this quote<\/p>\n
Cynthia hi Mom she's a writer she knew<\/p>\n
people who were once struggling who then<\/p>\n
became famous actors and actors don't<\/p>\n
happen<\/p>\n
she wrote an article about the people<\/p>\n
I think that when God wants to play a<\/p>\n
really wrong practical joke on you he<\/p>\n
grants you your deepest wish and then<\/p>\n
lasts narrowly when you realize you want<\/p>\n
to kill yourself<\/p>\n
these people until you've got these<\/p>\n
people their work and pushed themselves<\/p>\n
in the morning after they became famous<\/p>\n
they wanted to take over with us<\/p>\n
because the giant dreams that they were<\/p>\n
striving for that same thing that was<\/p>\n
going to make everything okay and<\/p>\n
provide them with personal fulfillment<\/p>\n
of Happiness then it happened and they<\/p>\n
were still dead<\/p>\n
when we look for pleasure it doesn't<\/p>\n
hurt<\/p>\n
okay pleasure doesn't work what else<\/p>\n
so now he turns to the pursuit of wisdom<\/p>\n
he sees the distinction between a wise<\/p>\n
person<\/p>\n
so the foolish person is like put is the<\/p>\n
power they stumble as they walk in<\/p>\n
darkness unable to make good decisions<\/p>\n
they can see to use their reasoning<\/p>\n
wisdom to live in a way that leads to<\/p>\n
use<\/p>\n
it<\/p>\n
that's common sense there's nothing<\/p>\n
surprising there<\/p>\n
the lives have the advantage of the food<\/p>\n
so here comes the surprise<\/p>\n

through everything<\/p>\n
yeah thinking through the right way to<\/p>\n
live<\/p>\n

resources if we pay quickly<\/p>\n
devoted to scholarship learning pursuing<\/p>\n
business<\/p>\n
trying to make their country and the<\/p>\n
world<\/p>\n
so yeah<\/p>\n

both the fool and the wise<\/p>\n

have to choose to give thanks again<\/p>\n
but this is only a revolution<\/p>\n
he said if Humanity were to exist for a<\/p>\n
thousand more years<\/p>\n
and even if Humanity lasted a billion<\/p>\n
years from now<\/p>\n

it worked so hard ultimately<\/p>\n
leaves it for another video<\/p>\n
he raises the question in verse 22<\/p>\n

what do people get for all the toilet<\/p>\n
actually striping foreign<\/p>\n
verse 23 it says that they spend all of<\/p>\n
their life anxious in grief and hey<\/p>\n
they lie awake at night their mind's not<\/p>\n
arrested<\/p>\n
constantly working possessed by Restless<\/p>\n
definition of We Are<\/p>\n
wow<\/p>\n
and for all this effort in the end what<\/p>\n
do we end up getting not talking about<\/p>\n
nothing else<\/p>\n
the lesson is that there is no meaning<\/p>\n
in pursuit of pleasure period<\/p>\n
no lasting value in being quiet<\/p>\n
no lasting benefit from work and<\/p>\n
achievement foreign<\/p>\n
if this life is all we can know<\/p>\n
and if we base our meaning in value<\/p>\n
often the things that we can achieve in<\/p>\n
this life<\/p>\n
it's ultimately meaningless<\/p>\n
so someone might say right okay my life<\/p>\n
has no meaning that's okay<\/p>\n
picture<\/p>\n
this is<\/p>\n
so Victor Frankl he's a Jewish<\/p>\n
psychologist he was put into the death<\/p>\n
camps we couldn't find home<\/p>\n
he observed that in the death camp some<\/p>\n
prisoners started to okay<\/p>\n
the question is why why is it that some<\/p>\n
people lost themselves and others<\/p>\n
well Victor Frankel says it depended on<\/p>\n
what they made uh<\/p>\n
because if you're meeting in life is<\/p>\n
something that the deaf can't take away<\/p>\n
you have nothing but literally<\/p>\n
the death camp can take away anything of<\/p>\n
the Sun<\/p>\n
success<\/p>\n
ful marriage as a relationships have a<\/p>\n
pleasure to answer if it's something<\/p>\n
pure in this life that just can't take<\/p>\n
away<\/p>\n
then if you're still not going to be<\/p>\n
it still won't be enough and when we<\/p>\n
realize that we begin to say what in the<\/p>\n
world will ever satisfied<\/p>\n
out of this love story<\/p>\n
and when those things are taken away<\/p>\n
we've not only lose those things we lose<\/p>\n
ourselves make<\/p>\n
but the people who stayed strongly<\/p>\n
definitely absolute for something under<\/p>\n
the death<\/p>\n
I can experience<\/p>\n
something like that<\/p>\n
so I'm very sorry that shows up<\/p>\n
until this point it takes us on a year<\/p>\n

become gifts when God is in the picture<\/p>\n
someone might say oh<\/p>\n
what is it that turns what were once the<\/p>\n
burdens if we give and I hate how many<\/p>\n
feet<\/p>\n
it's not omega we think<\/p>\n
the text says twice to the one who<\/p>\n
pleases God<\/p>\n
sharing with us<\/p>\n
there's many many many people who do<\/p>\n
this and say I'm looking for God<\/p>\n
many people who used to use to do these<\/p>\n
things who are no longer Christians<\/p>\n
some of us in this room May really<\/p>\n
consider that right now<\/p>\n
if you ask them why<\/p>\n
some may say<\/p>\n
well I did all these things pray to God<\/p>\n
you got the grants<\/p>\n
uh<\/p>\n
what this shows us is that it's possible<\/p>\n
for us to obey God not for God's sake<\/p>\n
but that<\/p>\n
and so if that's our reason for living<\/p>\n
it's just as unstable as the person<\/p>\n
that's your pleasure okay<\/p>\n
we may even say and believe<\/p>\n
me<\/p>\n
but we're living for God in order to get<\/p>\n
like that<\/p>\n

which are meaningless as we've heard<\/p>\n
and it's not just because you see a lot<\/p>\n
of the duties<\/p>\n
the way you know you love somebody is<\/p>\n
when you put your happiness into their<\/p>\n
happiness<\/p>\n
so that your greatest happiness is just<\/p>\n
to see the fact<\/p>\n
it doesn't mean that you make them happy<\/p>\n
so you can feel good about yourself<\/p>\n
it doesn't mean that you seek the Lord<\/p>\n
it means that they are doing is<\/p>\n
your life<\/p>\n
kick back<\/p>\n
but to obey God because I just want to<\/p>\n
be like<\/p>\n
that much<\/p>\n
okay so so how does this happen<\/p>\n
ing<\/p>\n
at the end here<\/p>\n
's<\/p>\n
24 to 26. commentators point out that<\/p>\n
God is giving kids<\/p>\n
so it says to give satisfaction he gives<\/p>\n
food<\/p>\n
and there's one more gift<\/p>\n
it says to The Sinner he gives the task<\/p>\n
of gathering and showing up wealth to<\/p>\n
hand it over to the left<\/p>\n
so that last gift that God gives is the<\/p>\n
gift of meaninglessness<\/p>\n
I don't know all right we might say that<\/p>\n
again<\/p>\n
it could be a good depending on what you<\/p>\n
do<\/p>\n
what you know<\/p>\n
if anyone here has a sense of<\/p>\n
meaningless in life right now<\/p>\n
it could be a gift if you let it drive<\/p>\n
you towards<\/p>\n
and other things<\/p>\n
to you right<\/p>\n
where now<\/p>\n
when Jesus Christ was on the cross he<\/p>\n
cried out my God my God why have you<\/p>\n
forsaken<\/p>\n
without<\/p>\n
because Jesus was getting what we<\/p>\n
deserved people<\/p>\n
we look for things like status success<\/p>\n
relationship to pleasure<\/p>\n
kids well there's so many things I'll be<\/p>\n
trying to do to get ourselves<\/p>\n
and so in Louisiana<\/p>\n
we deserve life without God and all the<\/p>\n
hopelessness that follow us<\/p>\n
but Jesus Christ came to the cross<\/p>\n
so that we never have to experience<\/p>\n
in other words Jesus Christ got life<\/p>\n
without God on the cross so that we can<\/p>\n
have life with God I want them<\/p>\n
Jesus knows what it's like<\/p>\n
to suffer to experience misery and<\/p>\n
hopelessness<\/p>\n
because he did<\/p>\n
he did laugh this book and now<\/p>\n
Hebrews 12 says for the joints of the<\/p>\n
the worst suffering hospital again<\/p>\n
Jesus put himself in our misery<\/p>\n
because he knows that ultimate<\/p>\n
satisfaction really comes from life<\/p>\n
and when we see the extent through which<\/p>\n
Jesus has done for us I think I don't<\/p>\n
know anything<\/p>\n
that will get us to want to just<\/p>\n
enlightenment<\/p>\n
when we see Jesus Christ sacrificing for<\/p>\n
us and putting his happiness inside ours<\/p>\n
reliably make us want to put our<\/p>\n
that's okay<\/p>\n
for us to see what Jesus<\/p>\n
with professional<\/p>\n
s arrived that's great so that there is<\/p>\n
nothing that Delights us more that's the<\/p>\n
life and the one who did always for us<\/p>\n
that's what gives us a true meaning of<\/p>\n
life that can never be taken away<\/p>\n
and that's what helps us see that<\/p>\n
everything we have<\/p>\n
time<\/p>\n
so you come to the table today<\/p>\n
that's true<\/p>\n
