today we'll be reading the 16th chapter<\/p>\n
of John verses 17-33 Kun Vicky will read<\/p>\n

this is the word of God<\/p>\n
is<\/p>\n
foreign<\/p>\n
said to one another<\/p>\n
what is this that he says to us a little<\/p>\n
while and you will not see me and again<\/p>\n
a little while and you will see me<\/p>\n
and because I'm going to the father<\/p>\n
so they were asking what does he mean by<\/p>\n
a little while we do not know what he is<\/p>\n
talking about<\/p>\n
Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him<\/p>\n
so he said to them is this what you are<\/p>\n
asking yourselves what I meant by saying<\/p>\n
a little while and you will not see me<\/p>\n
again a little while and you will see me<\/p>\n
truly truly I say to you<\/p>\n
you will weep and Lament but the world<\/p>\n
will rejoice<\/p>\n
you will be sorrowful<\/p>\n
but your sorrow will turn to Joy<\/p>\n
when a woman is giving birth she has<\/p>\n
sorrow because her hour has come<\/p>\n
but when she has delivered the baby she<\/p>\n
no longer remembers the anguish<\/p>\n
for joy that a human being has been born<\/p>\n
into the world<\/p>\n
so also you have sorrow now<\/p>\n
but I will see you again in your hearts<\/p>\n
will rejoice and no one will take your<\/p>\n
joy from you<\/p>\n
in that day you will ask nothing of me<\/p>\n
truly truly I say to you whatever you<\/p>\n
ask of the father in my name he will<\/p>\n
give it to you<\/p>\n
until now you have asked nothing in my<\/p>\n
name ask and you will receive that your<\/p>\n
joy may be full<\/p>\n
I have said these things to you in<\/p>\n
figures of speech<\/p>\n
the hour is coming when I will no longer<\/p>\n
speak to you in figures of speech<\/p>\n
but will tell you plainly about the<\/p>\n
father<\/p>\n
in that day you will ask in my name<\/p>\n
and I do not say to you that I will ask<\/p>\n
the father on your behalf or the father<\/p>\n
himself loves you because you have loved<\/p>\n
me and have believed that I came from<\/p>\n
God<\/p>\n
I came from the father and have come<\/p>\n
into the world and now I am leaving the<\/p>\n
world and going to the father<\/p>\n
his disciples said ah now you are<\/p>\n
speaking plainly and not using<\/p>\n
figurative speech now we know<\/p>\n
that you know all things and do not need<\/p>\n
anyone to question you this is why we<\/p>\n
believe that you came<\/p>\n
from God<\/p>\n
Jesus answered them do you now believe<\/p>\n
behold the hour is coming indeed it has<\/p>\n
come when you will be scattered each to<\/p>\n
his own home and will leave me alone yet<\/p>\n
I am not alone<\/p>\n
for the father is with me<\/p>\n
I have said these things to you that in<\/p>\n
me you may have peace in the world you<\/p>\n
will have tribulation but take heart I<\/p>\n
have overcome the world<\/p>\n
the passage we have just read<\/p>\n
is part of a longer conversation that<\/p>\n
Jesus had with his disciples<\/p>\n
while they were in Jerusalem for the<\/p>\n
Feast of the Passover<\/p>\n
it took place at a very tumultuous time<\/p>\n
in the lives of Jesus's followers and in<\/p>\n
Jesus's life as well the<\/p>\n
the conversation is difficult<\/p>\n
Jesus is speaking of his impending death<\/p>\n
how that he will be leaving them<\/p>\n
but for a time<\/p>\n
they have many questions that are quite<\/p>\n
distressed<\/p>\n
they don't seem to understand what he's<\/p>\n
telling them<\/p>\n
he's speaking of sorrow and suffering of<\/p>\n
weeping and Lament<\/p>\n
yes they have many questions my<\/p>\n
and Jesus knows this<\/p>\n
he knows how they're feeling<\/p>\n
and what Jesus does is speak truly of<\/p>\n
what the disciples are going to face<\/p>\n
he offers them hope in the midst of<\/p>\n
what's to come on<\/p>\n
Jesus is honest with them<\/p>\n
you will weep and lament<\/p>\n
even as the world rejoices<\/p>\n
Jesus was explaining to the disciples<\/p>\n
that they would mourn his death while<\/p>\n
many would celebrate it<\/p>\n
the darkness and sorrow that they would<\/p>\n
experience at the death of Jesus would<\/p>\n
be Amplified by the revelry of the World<\/p>\n
by me<\/p>\n
your sorrow your sorrow will turn to Joy<\/p>\n
Jesus says<\/p>\n
your grief will be turned to Joy indie<\/p>\n
when a woman gives birth Jesus explains<\/p>\n
she experiences great anguish but for a<\/p>\n
time<\/p>\n
for when the new life has come she<\/p>\n
forgets the suffering that she endured<\/p>\n
um<\/p>\n
there is great joy<\/p>\n
in the same way Jesus says that though<\/p>\n
you will experience sorrow you will see<\/p>\n
me again<\/p>\n
and<\/p>\n
that sorrow will be turned into Joy<\/p>\n
your hearts will rejoice and no one can<\/p>\n
take that Joy from you<\/p>\n
friends there will be suffering in all<\/p>\n
of our lives<\/p>\n
in fact<\/p>\n
many of us are experiencing suffering<\/p>\n
now<\/p>\n
we will or we are facing times of grief<\/p>\n
and pain<\/p>\n
personally we have failures regrets<\/p>\n
fears<\/p>\n
then we grieve all of this<\/p>\n
we grieve the Brokenness of this world<\/p>\n
we grieve the sin of our own Hearts<\/p>\n
this is the root of The Human Condition<\/p>\n
we are broken people living in a broken<\/p>\n
world<\/p>\n
but the Gospel of Jesus Christ is one of<\/p>\n
Hope and restoration<\/p>\n
Jesus's words to his disciples hear our<\/p>\n
words to us today<\/p>\n
hear this friends<\/p>\n
even though we experience sorrow in<\/p>\n
grief in this life this is not the end<\/p>\n
of the story<\/p>\n
the hope to be found in the gospel is<\/p>\n
that we are not alone<\/p>\n
we're not alone in our suffering<\/p>\n
the Bible reveals that Jesus Christ<\/p>\n
understands the depth of human suffering<\/p>\n
because he himself suffered<\/p>\n
Jesus suffered the punishment of our own<\/p>\n
sins on<\/p>\n
he gave himself for this broken world<\/p>\n
he suffered that our sorrows may turn to<\/p>\n
Joy<\/p>\n
he is the one that gives a lasting joy<\/p>\n
to all who call upon him in faith<\/p>\n
but if we're honest we don't want to<\/p>\n
suffer<\/p>\n
who would who would want to suffer<\/p>\n
the presence of pain and anguish is<\/p>\n
horrible<\/p>\n
what we desire often is that God would<\/p>\n
take us out of our suffering or take our<\/p>\n
suffering away<\/p>\n
in his book a grief observed C.S Lewis<\/p>\n
shared about what he was experiencing<\/p>\n
following the death of his wife Joy<\/p>\n
David<\/p>\n
a great officer is<\/p>\n
he said this part of every misery is so<\/p>\n
to speak the miseries Shadow or<\/p>\n
reflection the fact that you don't<\/p>\n
merely suffer but have to keep on<\/p>\n
thinking about the fact that you suffer<\/p>\n
I not only live each endless day in<\/p>\n
grief but live each day thinking about<\/p>\n
living each day in grief is<\/p>\n
and for those who are suffering<\/p>\n
experiencing grief<\/p>\n
they say yes<\/p>\n
say the suffering and the grief we<\/p>\n
experience in this world it's too much<\/p>\n
to bears<\/p>\n
and in the midst of this Jesus says to<\/p>\n
the suffering disciples<\/p>\n
yes you will experience this<\/p>\n
in the same way Jesus says you you yes<\/p>\n
you will have trials and tribulations in<\/p>\n
this world you will suffer wow<\/p>\n
friends the gospel is that Jesus Christ<\/p>\n
stepped into our suffering<\/p>\n
he took it on himself in<\/p>\n
suffered that that our suffering our<\/p>\n
grief will one day be turned to Joy<\/p>\n
and it's a lasting Joy a joy that can't<\/p>\n
be taken away a joy that is full and<\/p>\n
complete forever<\/p>\n
earlier in this conversation that Jesus<\/p>\n
had with his disciples he shared this in<\/p>\n
John chapter 15 verse 11.<\/p>\n
that he was sharing many things with<\/p>\n
them teaching them many things<\/p>\n
that he was summarizing he said these<\/p>\n
things I have spoken to you that my joy<\/p>\n
may be in you that your joy may be full<\/p>\n
friends the joy that Jesus brings the<\/p>\n
joy that Jesus is is what gives us hope<\/p>\n
in the very midst of our grief and<\/p>\n
sorrow<\/p>\n
he is with us through his Spirit<\/p>\n
actively working in us and around us<\/p>\n
he reveals to us our sins<\/p>\n
helps us to repent<\/p>\n
and rest in the Forgiveness of God<\/p>\n
and even though we experience great<\/p>\n
sorrow and grief over our sin and the<\/p>\n
evil in this world<\/p>\n
it is not the end of the story<\/p>\n
the joy that Jesus brings is a true Joy<\/p>\n
a lasting Joy<\/p>\n
the final book of the Bible<\/p>\n
Revelation in the 21st chapter in the<\/p>\n
first five verses we we get a picture we<\/p>\n
get a picture of what's to come on<\/p>\n
then I saw a new Heaven and a new Earth<\/p>\n
for the first Heaven and the first Earth<\/p>\n
had passed away and the sea was no more<\/p>\n
and I saw the holy city New Jerusalem<\/p>\n
coming down out of Heaven from God<\/p>\n
prepared as a bride adorned for her<\/p>\n
husband<\/p>\n
and I heard a loud voice from the throne<\/p>\n
saying Behold The Dwelling Place of God<\/p>\n
is with man he will dwell with them and<\/p>\n
they will be his people and God himself<\/p>\n
will be with them as their God<\/p>\n
he will wipe away every tear from their<\/p>\n
eyes and Death Shall be no more neither<\/p>\n
shall there be mourning nor crying nor<\/p>\n
pain anymore for the former things have<\/p>\n
passed away<\/p>\n
and he who is Seated on the throne said<\/p>\n
behold I am making all things new also<\/p>\n
he said write this down for these words<\/p>\n
are trustworthy and true we want what he<\/p>\n
said<\/p>\n
as Jesus speaks with his disciples<\/p>\n
they start to understand<\/p>\n
more of what he is sharing with them<\/p>\n
and he asks them do you now believe or<\/p>\n
States you you believe now<\/p>\n
do you believe all that I am saying to<\/p>\n
you<\/p>\n
you will be scattered you will leave me<\/p>\n
but I will not be alone<\/p>\n
and friends the truth of the Gospel is<\/p>\n
that God will not leave us alone<\/p>\n
Jesus is present with us<\/p>\n
he is with us in our suffering and he<\/p>\n
will turn our sorrows to endless joy in<\/p>\n
him<\/p>\n
take heart Jesus says<\/p>\n
you will have tribulation you will<\/p>\n
but take heart I have overcome the world<\/p>\n
do you now believe<\/p>\n
are you looking to Jesus in the midst of<\/p>\n
your suffering<\/p>\n
listen to his words<\/p>\n
me you may have peace<\/p>\n
come to Jesus in faith<\/p>\n
believe in him and find the peace and<\/p>\n
Lasting joy that he brings<\/p>\n
let's pray<\/p>\n
God our father thank you for promising<\/p>\n
to turn our sorrows into Joy<\/p>\n
what's up<\/p>\n
if Ron is though it's difficult to see<\/p>\n
and it's hard to believe<\/p>\n
especially when we find ourselves in the<\/p>\n
middle of hardship and sorrow<\/p>\n
please help us know and not just know<\/p>\n
but sense your presence in and around<\/p>\n
our suffering<\/p>\n
help us to look to you as the one who<\/p>\n
suffered for us that our suffering may<\/p>\n
be turned to Joy hello<\/p>\n
help us to hold on to you even as the<\/p>\n
world around us Falls away<\/p>\n
come Lord Jesus<\/p>\n
bring your lasting joy to this hurting<\/p>\n
bring it to our suffering Hearts<\/p>\n
we ask and pray this in your holy name<\/p>\n
