all right so I think that chapter five<\/p>\n
of Mark should be viewed in response to<\/p>\n
the disciples question at the end of<\/p>\n
chapter 4 at the end of chapter 4 Jesus<\/p>\n
and his disciples are at Sea and there's<\/p>\n
a storm and Jesus is sleeping through<\/p>\n
the Storm and The Disciples they wait<\/p>\n
Jesus and they ask him the question<\/p>\n
teacher do you not care that we are<\/p>\n
perishing and Jesus answers them he says<\/p>\n
why are you so afraid have you still no<\/p>\n
faith Jesus disciples have seen both his<\/p>\n
power and his care demonstrated for them<\/p>\n
countless<\/p>\n
times but their faith it just doesn't<\/p>\n
reflect it and so in Mark chapter 5 we<\/p>\n
see just how powerful and caring Jesus<\/p>\n
truly is Jesus conquers our demons he<\/p>\n
conquers our sin and the curse of our<\/p>\n
sin which is death and all of these are<\/p>\n
our enemy and they try to prevent us<\/p>\n
from experiencing<\/p>\n
life Jesus conquers all of them in order<\/p>\n
to give us<\/p>\n
life so let's look at one of our enemies<\/p>\n
sin and see how our caring King conquers<\/p>\n
our sin to give us<\/p>\n
life and when Jesus had crossed again in<\/p>\n
the boat to the other side a great crowd<\/p>\n
gathered about him and he was beside the<\/p>\n
sea then came one of the rulers of the<\/p>\n
synagogue gyrus by name and seeing him<\/p>\n
he fell at his feet and implored him<\/p>\n
earnestly saying my little daughter is<\/p>\n
at the point of death come and lay your<\/p>\n
hands on her so that she may be made<\/p>\n
well and Li live and he went with him<\/p>\n
and a great crowd followed him and<\/p>\n
thronged about<\/p>\n
him and there was a woman woman who had<\/p>\n
had a discharge of blood for 12 years<\/p>\n
and who had suffered much under many<\/p>\n
Physicians and had spent all that she<\/p>\n
had and was no better but rather grew<\/p>\n
worse she had heard the reports about<\/p>\n
Jesus and came up behind him in the<\/p>\n
crowd and touched His Garment for she<\/p>\n
said if I touch even his garments I will<\/p>\n
be made well and immediately the blood<\/p>\n
the flow of blood dried up and she felt<\/p>\n
in her body that she was healed of her<\/p>\n
disease and Jesus Jesus perceiving in<\/p>\n
himself that power had gone out from him<\/p>\n
immediately turned about in the crowd<\/p>\n
and said who touched my garments and the<\/p>\n
disciples said to him you see the crowd<\/p>\n
pressing around you and yet you say who<\/p>\n
touched me and he looked around to see<\/p>\n
who had done it but the woman knowing<\/p>\n
what had happened to her came in fear<\/p>\n
and trembling and fell down before him<\/p>\n
and told him the whole<\/p>\n
truth and he said to her daughter your<\/p>\n
faith has made you well go in peace and<\/p>\n
be healed of your disease while he was<\/p>\n
still speaking there came from the<\/p>\n
ruler's house someone who said your<\/p>\n
daughter is dead why trouble the teacher<\/p>\n
any further but overhearing what they<\/p>\n
said Jesus said to the ruler of the<\/p>\n
synagogue do not fear only<\/p>\n
believe and he Allowed no one to follow<\/p>\n
him except Peter and James and John the<\/p>\n
brother of James they came to the house<\/p>\n
of the ruler of the synagogue and Jesus<\/p>\n
saw a commotion people weeping and<\/p>\n
wailing loudly and when he had entered<\/p>\n
he said to them why are you making a<\/p>\n
commotion weeping the child is not dead<\/p>\n
but sleeping and they laughed at him but<\/p>\n
he put them all outside and took the<\/p>\n
child's father and mother and those who<\/p>\n
were with him and went in where the<\/p>\n
child<\/p>\n
was taking her by the hand he said to<\/p>\n
her talita Kumi which means little girl<\/p>\n
I say to you you arise and immediately<\/p>\n
the girl got up and began walking for<\/p>\n
she was 12 years of age and they were<\/p>\n
immediately overcome with amazement and<\/p>\n
he strictly charged them that no one<\/p>\n
should know this and told them to give<\/p>\n
her something to<\/p>\n
eat the woman Jesus Hills has a disease<\/p>\n
that is related to her menstrual cycle<\/p>\n
there were certain religious laws called<\/p>\n
C ceremonial laws during this time that<\/p>\n
made people ceremonially unclean clean a<\/p>\n
woman was considered ceremonially<\/p>\n
unclean during her menstrual cycle and<\/p>\n
this woman had a blood flow that<\/p>\n
accorded that occurred more than just<\/p>\n
once a month because she had a constant<\/p>\n
blood flow she was considered constantly<\/p>\n
ceremonially unclean all the time<\/p>\n
whoever or whatever touched this woman<\/p>\n
would be considered ceremonially unclean<\/p>\n
also and what did she do she snuck up<\/p>\n
behind Jesus and touched His Garment and<\/p>\n
she was immediately healed this woman<\/p>\n
had spent all the money that she had on<\/p>\n
Physicians who couldn't heal her she had<\/p>\n
been to the the medical Experts of her<\/p>\n
day who had no power over her<\/p>\n
disease what is Mark showing us about<\/p>\n
Jesus here he's showing us that Jesus<\/p>\n
has extraordinary power to heal his<\/p>\n
people of<\/p>\n
disease what does Jesus say to this<\/p>\n
woman after she has been healed he says<\/p>\n
daughter your faith has made you well go<\/p>\n
in peace and be healed of your<\/p>\n
disease according to the ceremonial law<\/p>\n
this woman was supposed to wait seven<\/p>\n
days before she was considered<\/p>\n
ceremonially clean and on the eighth day<\/p>\n
she was to take an offering to the<\/p>\n
priest for him to make an atonement for<\/p>\n
her before the Lord and the offering of<\/p>\n
atonement was given in order for there<\/p>\n
to be peace between those who were<\/p>\n
ceremonially unclean and the<\/p>\n
Lord and so in this instance the person<\/p>\n
that is ceremonially clean unclean is<\/p>\n
this<\/p>\n
woman and it was given to restore the<\/p>\n
relationship between the offended and<\/p>\n
God one of the benedictions that you<\/p>\n
have probably heard several times comes<\/p>\n
from uh numbers 6 24- 27 and it's a<\/p>\n
Priestly blessing that priests were to<\/p>\n
say over the people and to declare to<\/p>\n
them the Lord's promise of favor and<\/p>\n
blessing the Lord bless you and keep you<\/p>\n
the the Lord make his face to shine upon<\/p>\n
you and be gracious to you the Lord lift<\/p>\n
up his countenance upon you and give you<\/p>\n
peace so shall they put my name upon the<\/p>\n
people of Israel and I will bless them<\/p>\n
and what does it mean for the Lord to<\/p>\n
make his face to shine upon you and for<\/p>\n
him to lift up his countenance upon you<\/p>\n
it means that you that he looks upon you<\/p>\n
in good favor and He blesses you and the<\/p>\n
opposite of these is is true for the<\/p>\n
Lord to to turn his face from from you<\/p>\n
and for him not to lift up his<\/p>\n
countenance upon you which means that<\/p>\n
you have offended him and you don't<\/p>\n
receive favor from<\/p>\n
him we also learn from this passage that<\/p>\n
the Lord is the one who gives his people<\/p>\n
peace peace here is referring to Shalom<\/p>\n
which means not only peace with God but<\/p>\n
peace in every area of life and so when<\/p>\n
Jesus tells this woman she will she is<\/p>\n
well and for her to go in peace he is<\/p>\n
acting like a priest to her he's<\/p>\n
declaring that she is clean and that he<\/p>\n
has done everything needed for things to<\/p>\n
be right between her and God he is the<\/p>\n
Lord who looks upon her with pleasure<\/p>\n
and favor so she may now go in peace<\/p>\n
knowing this what is Mark showing us<\/p>\n
about Jesus he is showing us that Jesus<\/p>\n
has extraordinary Priestly power to make<\/p>\n
and declare his people<\/p>\n
clean God gave the the ceremonial law to<\/p>\n
Israel to be an an external way of<\/p>\n
showing them that they had an internal<\/p>\n
problem going on in their heart these uh<\/p>\n
laws were designed to be like a red<\/p>\n
dashlight that comes on your<\/p>\n
dash to get your attention that<\/p>\n
something is wrong with your motorbike<\/p>\n
or car that needs to be fixed all of the<\/p>\n
many diseases Like This Woman's disease<\/p>\n
and<\/p>\n
leprosy they could make you be<\/p>\n
considered ceremonially unclean and were<\/p>\n
designed to show the people of God that<\/p>\n
they had an internal disease of the<\/p>\n
heart heart sin which made them unclean<\/p>\n
before the Lord and so the whole<\/p>\n
ceremonial system was given by God to<\/p>\n
show Israel their sin and point them to<\/p>\n
Jesus who is our great and powerful<\/p>\n
priest who takes care of our sin for us<\/p>\n
when Jesus heals this woman of her<\/p>\n
disease he is showing us that he has the<\/p>\n
ability to conquer our disease which is<\/p>\n
sin and to declare us<\/p>\n
clean the power of any diseases his<\/p>\n
ability to do harm to the host a skin<\/p>\n
tag is a growth on the skin that's<\/p>\n
usually small and it just hangs from the<\/p>\n
skin and Physicians they wouldn't<\/p>\n
consider a skin tag of disease because<\/p>\n
it's just a nuisance and it might look<\/p>\n
funny and so people sometimes will have<\/p>\n
these removed but they do no harm to the<\/p>\n
person they're not a<\/p>\n
disease but Physicians do consider stage<\/p>\n
four melanoma to be a disease it's a<\/p>\n
skin disease that has penetrated through<\/p>\n
all the layers of the skin<\/p>\n
and it has made its way to other parts<\/p>\n
of the body like the brain and the lungs<\/p>\n
and the liver or the stomach so it not<\/p>\n
only causes dysfunction in the skin it<\/p>\n
causes dysfunction in other parts of the<\/p>\n
body as it has spread to it the power of<\/p>\n
stage four melanoma is its ability to<\/p>\n
quickly do great damage to a person who<\/p>\n
has<\/p>\n
it what is the power of our disease sin<\/p>\n
the power of sin is its ability to do us<\/p>\n
harm<\/p>\n
by making us guilty before the<\/p>\n
Lord God is perfect and requires perfect<\/p>\n
obedience from those he shows favor to<\/p>\n
being guilty of committing just one sin<\/p>\n
is extremely offensive to a perfect God<\/p>\n
I sin multiple times every day so when<\/p>\n
you add all of those sins up I'm<\/p>\n
extremely offensive to a perfect God<\/p>\n
because I'm guilty of sin the Lord no<\/p>\n
longer can look upon me and shine his<\/p>\n
face upon me me he cannot lift up his<\/p>\n
countenance upon me and give me peace<\/p>\n
therefore my sin has caused me to have a<\/p>\n
guilty status before the Lord and I can<\/p>\n
no longer have peace with<\/p>\n
him how does Jesus heal us of our<\/p>\n
disease of sin It Is by what he does for<\/p>\n
us at the<\/p>\n
cross Colossians<\/p>\n
23-15 tells us and you who were dead in<\/p>\n
your trespasses and the uncircumcision<\/p>\n
of your flesh God Made Alive together<\/p>\n
with him having forgiven us all our<\/p>\n
trespasses by canceling the record of<\/p>\n
debt that stood against us with its<\/p>\n
legal demands this he set aside nailing<\/p>\n
it to the Cross he disarmed the rulers<\/p>\n
and authorities and put them to open<\/p>\n
Shame by triumphing over them in<\/p>\n
him and so it is at the cross where we<\/p>\n
see our King's care for us so brightly<\/p>\n
demonstrated at the cross Jesus Takes<\/p>\n
our guilty status upon himself and God<\/p>\n
looks on Christ as having committed all<\/p>\n
of our<\/p>\n
sins the father looks Upon Jesus with<\/p>\n
displeasure and in a sense he turns his<\/p>\n
face away from his<\/p>\n
son because of this displeasure he pours<\/p>\n
his righteous wrath out Upon Jesus for<\/p>\n
all of our<\/p>\n
sin and when God is finished with Christ<\/p>\n
at the cross God no longer gives a<\/p>\n
guilty verdict because Christ has done<\/p>\n
everything needed to take away that<\/p>\n
guilty status that we have before the<\/p>\n
Lord as we see in Colossians Jesus meets<\/p>\n
all of the legal demands that God as our<\/p>\n
judge is satis is looking at he looks at<\/p>\n
the requirements of of the penalty for<\/p>\n
breaking the law and he says I am<\/p>\n
satisfied with these legal requirements<\/p>\n
that Jesus has meant for you and so<\/p>\n
Jesus renders sin powerless because<\/p>\n
without its ability to make us guilty<\/p>\n
before the Lord without its ability to<\/p>\n
give us a guilty status before the Lord<\/p>\n
it can no longer do us harm it no longer<\/p>\n
has the ability to make us guilty Jesus<\/p>\n
heals us from our disease of sin and now<\/p>\n
can declare us well which means we are<\/p>\n
clean before the Lord it is because of<\/p>\n
Jesus work at the cross that God can<\/p>\n
turn his face towards us and lift up his<\/p>\n
countenance upon us and from the moment<\/p>\n
that we place our faith in Christ we<\/p>\n
immediately receive the work Christ has<\/p>\n
done for us at the cross and in the eyes<\/p>\n
of God he no longer sees us as having<\/p>\n
sin because of what Christ has done at<\/p>\n
the cross and conquering our enemy of<\/p>\n
sin God is able to give us a new life in<\/p>\n
Christ in which he favors us he turns<\/p>\n
his face towards us and looks upon us<\/p>\n
with<\/p>\n
pleasure when a person comes to faith in<\/p>\n
Christ is like a patient who had stage<\/p>\n
four melanoma that had spread to every<\/p>\n
part of the body when the doctor went<\/p>\n
back to check he didn't find anything<\/p>\n
not even a skin tag only perfectly<\/p>\n
smooth skin and when you combine what we<\/p>\n
have seen here of Jesus conquering our<\/p>\n
sin with the other two stories in Mark 5<\/p>\n
that shows he conquers evil forces uh<\/p>\n
through healing exercising the demons<\/p>\n
and the demoniac and also Conquering the<\/p>\n
curse of our which is death we see that<\/p>\n
there is nothing that our King cannot or<\/p>\n
will not conquer to bring us<\/p>\n
life he has overcome all of our enemies<\/p>\n
and thus removed all of the obstacles so<\/p>\n
that we can now have life in<\/p>\n
him when I was 16 years old I went to go<\/p>\n
get my driver's license I came to the<\/p>\n
the last part of the test which is the<\/p>\n
parallel parking and if you've ever<\/p>\n
paralleled parked you know how difficult<\/p>\n
that can<\/p>\n
be uh whenever I was uh taking that test<\/p>\n
um my driver instructor she put out or<\/p>\n
there were two cones set out and so I<\/p>\n
had to get my car perfectly in line<\/p>\n
within these two cones and if you hit a<\/p>\n
cone once it disqualified you I was<\/p>\n
driving my mother's big clunky van at<\/p>\n
the time and attempted to parallel park<\/p>\n
about seven times and I looked at my<\/p>\n
driver test instructor and I said I<\/p>\n
can't do this um she was maybe one of<\/p>\n
the most patient women uh that I've ever<\/p>\n
met in my life I said I can't do this<\/p>\n
and so she gets out of the passenger<\/p>\n
seat she went and she picked up the cone<\/p>\n
that was behind my Mom's van and she<\/p>\n
moved it back and she<\/p>\n
said sometimes uh she said the testing<\/p>\n
center is next to a prison and sometimes<\/p>\n
prisoners come out and they move these<\/p>\n
calls and she said I'm sure that's what<\/p>\n
happened this morning and I said I'm<\/p>\n
sure that's what happened too'<\/p>\n
and this is what Jesus has done for us<\/p>\n
in conquering our enemies like sin he<\/p>\n
has removed the obstacles that would<\/p>\n
prevent us from Life with him there is<\/p>\n
no evil there is no sin there not even<\/p>\n
physical death that can keep us from the<\/p>\n
life we now have in Christ because<\/p>\n
Christ has defeated all of our enemies<\/p>\n
he has removed all of our<\/p>\n
obstacles so instead of being in fear<\/p>\n
like the disciples were in fear in the<\/p>\n
boat that day which with Jesus let us<\/p>\n
rest assured that our King has conquered<\/p>\n
our sin and all the rest of our enemies<\/p>\n
we can rest assured that there is<\/p>\n
nothing that can keep us from the new<\/p>\n
life he has given in<\/p>\n
US Romans 834 through 39 is a reminder<\/p>\n
of this it says who is to condemn Christ<\/p>\n
Jesus is the one who died more than that<\/p>\n
who was raised who is at the right hand<\/p>\n
of God who indeed is interceding for us<\/p>\n
who shall separate us from the love of<\/p>\n
Christ shall tribulation or distress or<\/p>\n
persecution or famine or nakedness or<\/p>\n
danger or sword as it is written for<\/p>\n
your sake we are being killed all the<\/p>\n
day long we are regarded as sheep to be<\/p>\n
slaughtered KN in all these things we<\/p>\n
are more than conquerors through him who<\/p>\n
loved us for I'm sure that neither death<\/p>\n
nor life nor angels nor rulers nor<\/p>\n
things present nor things to come nor<\/p>\n
powers nor height nor depth nor anything<\/p>\n
else in all creation will be able to<\/p>\n
separate us from the love of God in<\/p>\n
Christ Jesus our lord Paul is saying<\/p>\n
here that God has turned his face<\/p>\n
towards us and looks on us in favor and<\/p>\n
in love and there is nothing that can<\/p>\n
take that away there's nothing that can<\/p>\n
cause God to turn his face away from us<\/p>\n
there's no evil power that can stop this<\/p>\n
because Christ has conquered them all<\/p>\n
and to this let us say Amen<\/p>\n
in we have looked at how our King has<\/p>\n
conquered our sin and the rest of our<\/p>\n
enemies in order to give us life now I<\/p>\n
want to take a few minutes to look more<\/p>\n
at the compassion and care of our king<\/p>\n
um and how he cares for us that we see<\/p>\n
displayed in how he cares for this woman<\/p>\n
he has<\/p>\n
healed<\/p>\n
Mark sandwiches or stitches these two<\/p>\n
stories together the woman with a<\/p>\n
disease disas and the dead little girl<\/p>\n
and I think the reason he does this is<\/p>\n
because he wants to us to see them in<\/p>\n
parallel and he wants us to see the the<\/p>\n
similarities between the the two stories<\/p>\n
and the characters in the story<\/p>\n
specifically Jesus and gyrus he does<\/p>\n
this so that we will associate the<\/p>\n
emotions that we have with gyrus with<\/p>\n
Jesus when gyrus is at jesus' feet<\/p>\n
begging him to come and to heal his<\/p>\n
daughter what does he call her he says<\/p>\n
my little girl this girl is 12 years old<\/p>\n
she is no longer a little girl but he<\/p>\n
calls her my little girl whenever I was<\/p>\n
a teenager my mother would tell me that<\/p>\n
parents never stopped seeing their<\/p>\n
children as children they never stopped<\/p>\n
caring for them or having that same<\/p>\n
compassion they did for for them<\/p>\n
whenever they were<\/p>\n
little as whenever they get old and so<\/p>\n
as children get older their parents<\/p>\n
never sto loving them for fathers that<\/p>\n
little girl that you held as a newborn<\/p>\n
she will always be your princess even<\/p>\n
when she is married and 40 years<\/p>\n
old jerus has told Jesus that his<\/p>\n
daughter as is at the point of death<\/p>\n
which means that she is about to die<\/p>\n
there is no time to waste they must<\/p>\n
hurry if Jesus is to make it to her<\/p>\n
bedside before she dies and on their way<\/p>\n
someone touches Jesus and he senses<\/p>\n
power has gone out from him to<\/p>\n
Hill why does Jesus take so much time to<\/p>\n
find a woman in a Crow of people when he<\/p>\n
knows garrus's daughter is<\/p>\n
dying the problem has been fixed he has<\/p>\n
healed this woman's body of disease why<\/p>\n
doesn't he just move<\/p>\n
on it is because he is looking for his<\/p>\n
child whose heart needs to be healed and<\/p>\n
touched by him just as much as her body<\/p>\n
did his compassion for her will not let<\/p>\n
him move on until he cares for her heart<\/p>\n
first she is like a child who has fallen<\/p>\n
and scraped her knee that must have her<\/p>\n
boo boo Kiss by her father Bart wants us<\/p>\n
to see that Jesus has just as much<\/p>\n
compassion and care for his daughter as<\/p>\n
gyus does for his because this woman has<\/p>\n
a constant flow of blood she is<\/p>\n
constantly considered ceremonially<\/p>\n
unclean whoever or whatever touches her<\/p>\n
becomes ceremonially unclean also this<\/p>\n
woman and whoever KN knew this woman and<\/p>\n
knew her disease would have treated her<\/p>\n
and viewed her as continous ly unclean<\/p>\n
all the time in modern times it would be<\/p>\n
like this woman had an active case of Co<\/p>\n
in 20121 that never went<\/p>\n
away one day in 2021 during one of the<\/p>\n
major covid lockdowns Macy and I hopped<\/p>\n
into a taxi and headed to the grocery<\/p>\n
store and whenever we got into the taxi<\/p>\n
it was about a from our place to the<\/p>\n
grocery store is about 10 minutes<\/p>\n
whenever I hopped into the taxi I could<\/p>\n
smell that the taxi driver had sprayed<\/p>\n
some type of anti- disinfectant into the<\/p>\n
car and about 2 minutes after uh of<\/p>\n
being into the ride my throat started<\/p>\n
closing up and I got that uncontrollable<\/p>\n
tickle in your throat whenever you were<\/p>\n
allergic to something my eyes began to<\/p>\n
weep uncontrollably and I stopped<\/p>\n
talking to Macy because I knew if I kept<\/p>\n
talking to her it would just make things<\/p>\n
worse and I'm thinking in my mind I'm<\/p>\n
about to have this uncontrollable<\/p>\n
coughing spell and this taxi driver is<\/p>\n
going to think that I have Co I had an<\/p>\n
overwhelming fear of Shame of Shame um<\/p>\n
and I thought what will I do if this man<\/p>\n
thinks this of me and so thankfully we<\/p>\n
made it to the grocery store uh I handed<\/p>\n
the taxi driver the money I never spoke<\/p>\n
to him I never said a word and so I just<\/p>\n
went behind the grocery store and I just<\/p>\n
had this coughing<\/p>\n
spell this woman she had had this<\/p>\n
disease for 12 years and she would have<\/p>\n
been thought of by everyone around her<\/p>\n
and herself as unlovable and<\/p>\n
filthy how does Jesus care for this<\/p>\n
woman who would have experienced so much<\/p>\n
Social rejection and shame for so long<\/p>\n
he cares for her by pressing the<\/p>\n
realities of what he has done for her<\/p>\n
and the new life he has given to her to<\/p>\n
her<\/p>\n
heart in healing her he has given her a<\/p>\n
new family and a new identity this woman<\/p>\n
woman's body it was healed but the place<\/p>\n
in her heart that God created us to be<\/p>\n
accepted and wanted and feel like we<\/p>\n
belong to others and him it still needed<\/p>\n
healing he needed to kiss the outside of<\/p>\n
her boo boo so that he could heal the<\/p>\n
inside of her<\/p>\n
heart Jesus shows us he that he cares<\/p>\n
about our life and he came to give us<\/p>\n
peace and the peace that Jesus is<\/p>\n
referring to is the same piece that we<\/p>\n
looked at in numbers six it is Shalom or<\/p>\n
peace in a holistic sense meaning peace<\/p>\n
in every area of<\/p>\n
life our King knows his children and he<\/p>\n
searches the depths of our hearts he<\/p>\n
knows what we need and when we need it<\/p>\n
the most he cares about those places of<\/p>\n
our hearts that have been damaged by the<\/p>\n
effects of sin he calls this woman his<\/p>\n
daughter and by doing so warmly welcomes<\/p>\n
her to experience the new life that he<\/p>\n
has given to her as his family member<\/p>\n
this woman's disease would have<\/p>\n
prohibited her from physically touching<\/p>\n
anyone or being physically touched by<\/p>\n
anyone which would have caused her to<\/p>\n
experience great isol isolation and<\/p>\n
rejection what did she need she needed<\/p>\n
to feel like she belonged and that<\/p>\n
someone cared about her she needed to be<\/p>\n
reminded of Jesus caring<\/p>\n
touch Jesus speaks life-giving words<\/p>\n
that would have touched This Woman's<\/p>\n
heart when he calls her daughter<\/p>\n
daughter in this context is used in in a<\/p>\n
way to show endearment and to to show<\/p>\n
the close relationship that family<\/p>\n
members<\/p>\n
have This Woman's disease had pushed her<\/p>\n
to the fringes of society and Jesus<\/p>\n
would bring her near with his words if<\/p>\n
words were translated into emojis in<\/p>\n
this context the word daughter would be<\/p>\n
translated into a hug emoji by Jesus<\/p>\n
Calling this woman his daughter it's<\/p>\n
like is sending her a a hug sticker or a<\/p>\n
hug emoi online it's like a father<\/p>\n
wrapping his arms around his daughter<\/p>\n
and saying you are my daughter you<\/p>\n
belong to me you are<\/p>\n
mine this woman who had felt for so long<\/p>\n
like she didn't belong and she felt<\/p>\n
disconnected from others now had a<\/p>\n
relationship with the one who could meet<\/p>\n
every desire of connectedness and<\/p>\n
belonging that her heart<\/p>\n
desired she went from being a social<\/p>\n
Outcast to being a beloved daughter of<\/p>\n
of the<\/p>\n
king I can imagine This Woman's Joy when<\/p>\n
she heard Jesus say these words to her<\/p>\n
she probably hadn't heard anyone say an<\/p>\n
endearing word to her for 12 years much<\/p>\n
less call her by an endearing title like<\/p>\n
daughter going back to the question that<\/p>\n
the disciples asked Jesus in the boat<\/p>\n
Jesus do you care that we are perishing<\/p>\n
do you care about our lives Jesus answer<\/p>\n
is yes Jesus cares about every aspect of<\/p>\n
his disciples life he even cares about<\/p>\n
our social life and came to give us a<\/p>\n
new life with a new sense of<\/p>\n
belonging we uh we took Macy to a part<\/p>\n
within the first couple of months of<\/p>\n
arriving in Thailand and she met two Tha<\/p>\n
boys on the playground and tried to play<\/p>\n
with them they didn't speak English and<\/p>\n
she didn't speak Thai and so their Play<\/p>\n
Time didn't go well and after about two<\/p>\n
minutes she came and she sat next to me<\/p>\n
on the bench and she said dad I I don't<\/p>\n
think they like me I don't think they<\/p>\n
want to play with me I feel like I don't<\/p>\n
belong and I put my arm around her and I<\/p>\n
said I know you don't feel like you<\/p>\n
belong to these boys but you have a<\/p>\n
family that you belong to and who cares<\/p>\n
about<\/p>\n
you Jesus spent precious time to<\/p>\n
communicate to this woman and us that we<\/p>\n
belong to him and are his family members<\/p>\n
let us take this message to Heart some<\/p>\n
of you may be experiencing feelings of<\/p>\n
Disconnect and rejection from others you<\/p>\n
may be rejected by your Earthly family<\/p>\n
by Society by Culture by those who you<\/p>\n
thought were your close friends by the<\/p>\n
company you work for or even those who<\/p>\n
may be your brothers and sisters in the<\/p>\n
church sometimes this is the Blessed<\/p>\n
place that you can be in life because it<\/p>\n
encourages you to cllean to Christ that<\/p>\n
much more Define your sense of belonging<\/p>\n
don't waste your Earthly<\/p>\n
rejection allow your wounds of Earthly<\/p>\n
rejection to drive you to the one where<\/p>\n
your ultimate sense of belonging is<\/p>\n
found when we experience Earthly<\/p>\n
rejection it's so easy for us to wallow<\/p>\n
in it like a pig might sit down in the<\/p>\n
mud and just lay there all<\/p>\n
day think of every Earthly rejection as<\/p>\n
an opportunity for you to find your<\/p>\n
ultimate sense of belonging in Jesus and<\/p>\n
I want to challenge you to take 30<\/p>\n
seconds uh this week to think about your<\/p>\n
relationship with Jesus and seek to find<\/p>\n
your ultimate sense of belonging in him<\/p>\n
every time you feel rejected this week<\/p>\n
when you don't meet the deadline at work<\/p>\n
and don't produce the quality of work<\/p>\n
that everyone is expecting you and you<\/p>\n
know that your co-workers wish that the<\/p>\n
project had been given to someone else<\/p>\n
take 30 seconds to think about the fact<\/p>\n
that you are a beloved son or daughter<\/p>\n
king when a person that you are dating<\/p>\n
saysi need more space it's not you it's<\/p>\n
me go to the one who calls you his child<\/p>\n
and find your<\/p>\n
belonging when you're playing basketball<\/p>\n
and you are the only one on the team who<\/p>\n
can't catch the ball or make a basket<\/p>\n
and you feel the stairs of the your<\/p>\n
teammates penetrating Through Your Skin<\/p>\n
remember who you belong to your<\/p>\n
teammates may not talk to you after the<\/p>\n
game but Jesus Smiles upon you because<\/p>\n
you are his<\/p>\n
if you forget to pick up the eggsit the<\/p>\n
grocery store on your way home from work<\/p>\n
and your wife or your roommate is in the<\/p>\n
process of making bread and needs those<\/p>\n
eggs and you can see the frustration on<\/p>\n
his or her face as you walk in<\/p>\n
empty-handed remember on your way back<\/p>\n
out to go get those eggs that Jesus<\/p>\n
loves forgetful people like<\/p>\n
you Jesus wants us to have a sense of<\/p>\n
Peace in life that comes from knowing<\/p>\n
that we belong to him because you are<\/p>\n
Jesus son or daughter you will never be<\/p>\n
rejected by him he looks upon you with a<\/p>\n
sense of endearment as a loving and<\/p>\n
caring father looks upon his child he<\/p>\n
wants you to know that you belong to him<\/p>\n
in heart are his<\/p>\n
beloved if we end up in a situation at<\/p>\n
some point in our life where the whole<\/p>\n
world looks down on us we have<\/p>\n
everything because we have a king who<\/p>\n
loves us and we belong<\/p>\n
to there is nothing that we can do that<\/p>\n
will ever C cuse him to turn away from<\/p>\n
us so that we lose this close<\/p>\n
relationship that we have with<\/p>\n
him Jesus not only gives this woman a<\/p>\n
new family and a new sense of belonging<\/p>\n
he also gives her a new identity Jesus<\/p>\n
continues to show us how much he cares<\/p>\n
about us by taking care of our emotional<\/p>\n
needs how do you identify<\/p>\n
yourself I'm a husband I'm a father I'm<\/p>\n
a son to parents past a thae student not<\/p>\n
a very good one but I'm a a pass time<\/p>\n
student I can play one song on the<\/p>\n
guitar so I don't identify myself as a<\/p>\n
musician and so I haven't joined the gra<\/p>\n
City<\/p>\n
band and I can cook but I don't let<\/p>\n
anyone know out of selfish motives<\/p>\n
because I don't want<\/p>\n
to how does Scripture identify this<\/p>\n
woman it tells us and there was a woman<\/p>\n
who had a discharge of blood for 12<\/p>\n
years and who had suffered much under<\/p>\n
many physician s and had spent all that<\/p>\n
she had and was no better but rather<\/p>\n
grew worse scripture doesn't paint a<\/p>\n
Rosy picture of her does it being a<\/p>\n
woman during Jesus day meant that you<\/p>\n
didn't have much if any social status or<\/p>\n
standing Mark doesn't even give us This<\/p>\n
Woman's name on top of this she has a<\/p>\n
disease that makes her ceremonially<\/p>\n
unclean and would have made her a social<\/p>\n
outcast she was not only someone that<\/p>\n
people didn't pay much attention to she<\/p>\n
was someone that people intentionally<\/p>\n
tried to avoid it would be hard to find<\/p>\n
someone who had a lower social status<\/p>\n
than this<\/p>\n
woman she is suffering and so she is in<\/p>\n
a lot of pain and probably mentally and<\/p>\n
physically weak she has spent all of her<\/p>\n
money on Physicians so she is<\/p>\n
financially broke Mark identifies this<\/p>\n
person who touches Jesus as a poor<\/p>\n
no-name woman who is a social outcast<\/p>\n
that everyone tries to stay away from<\/p>\n
how does Jesus describe this woman after<\/p>\n
he heals<\/p>\n
her and he said to her 'daughter your<\/p>\n
be healed from your<\/p>\n
disease Jesus gives this woman a new<\/p>\n
identity he calls her daughter she goes<\/p>\n
from being a social outcast to having<\/p>\n
Royal status as a daughter of the king<\/p>\n
she goes from having no money to having<\/p>\n
access to the king who has an unlimited<\/p>\n
treasury he then tells her that she is<\/p>\n
has been made well she goes from being<\/p>\n
dis diseased and looked down upon as<\/p>\n
being disease<\/p>\n
free she goes from being ceremonially<\/p>\n
unclean to being ceremonially clean and<\/p>\n
socially<\/p>\n
acceptable Jesus doesn't want her to<\/p>\n
identify with her old identity<\/p>\n
anymore he has rescued her from it and<\/p>\n
wants her heart to know this he wants<\/p>\n
her to see herself in the way that he<\/p>\n
views her she is his daughter and he has<\/p>\n
made her well when Jesus says go in<\/p>\n
peace and be healed from your disease he<\/p>\n
is s saying take what I have told you to<\/p>\n
heart and live your life accordingly<\/p>\n
don't live out of your past identity<\/p>\n
This Woman's old identity had left her<\/p>\n
Shackled In Fear And shame and it has<\/p>\n
now been replaced with a new identity<\/p>\n
that she should go and she should live<\/p>\n
out of and Jesus wants her to experience<\/p>\n
Peace and Freedom from this new identity<\/p>\n
in the movie The Help a woman works as a<\/p>\n
a maid and a nanny for a family who has<\/p>\n
a 2 and a half-year-old<\/p>\n
daughter and this child's mother is so<\/p>\n
busy trying to please her friends and<\/p>\n
those that are around her that she<\/p>\n
neglects her daughter and leaves her for<\/p>\n
the nanny to raise the mother doesn't<\/p>\n
want to to hold or to hug her daughter<\/p>\n
and she sees her more as a burden than a<\/p>\n
blessing several times in the movie The<\/p>\n
The Nanny Scoops the little girl up in<\/p>\n
her arms and she looks her in the eyes<\/p>\n
and she repeats this phrase she says you<\/p>\n
was kind you was smart you was<\/p>\n
important she didn't want the girl to<\/p>\n
see herself in the same negative way<\/p>\n
that her mother viewed her the Nan's<\/p>\n
Hope was that she would see her based on<\/p>\n
the love and affection that she had for<\/p>\n
her that she constantly expressed to her<\/p>\n
in the phrase you as kind you as in<\/p>\n
smart you as<\/p>\n
important Jesus wants wants us to see<\/p>\n
ourselves as having a new identity he<\/p>\n
wants us to take to heart these same<\/p>\n
words that he spoke to his daughter so<\/p>\n
that we experience the same Peace and<\/p>\n
Freedom he wanted her to<\/p>\n
experience Jesus healing her of her<\/p>\n
bodily disease and making her<\/p>\n
ceremonially clean is a picture of him<\/p>\n
healing us of our spiritual disease<\/p>\n
which is sin This Woman's disease Mays<\/p>\n
her un ceremonially unclean and it would<\/p>\n
have affected her status in societ and<\/p>\n
also the religious<\/p>\n
system that Israel had during that<\/p>\n
time our sin makes our hearts unclean<\/p>\n
and affects our standing before our Lord<\/p>\n
who is perfect jesus takes care of our<\/p>\n
sins so that in the eyes of the Lord<\/p>\n
when we have faith in him we immediately<\/p>\n
go from being filthy to being perfectly<\/p>\n
and completely<\/p>\n
clean even though you will continue to<\/p>\n
to sin God no longer looks upon you as<\/p>\n
sinful<\/p>\n
God looks at you and says you as kind<\/p>\n
you as smart you as<\/p>\n
important God tells us in this passage I<\/p>\n
have given you a new identity don't look<\/p>\n
at yourself as still having your old<\/p>\n
identity of sin go and live your life<\/p>\n
knowing your new identity and be set<\/p>\n
free from the shackles of fear and shame<\/p>\n
that what you once experienced because<\/p>\n
of your old<\/p>\n
identity you may be like the mom in the<\/p>\n
movie The Help and struggle to show love<\/p>\n
and affection to your children instead<\/p>\n
of giving them words of affirmation and<\/p>\n
disciplining them in love you often<\/p>\n
times yell at them in Anger if your<\/p>\n
faith is in Christ he has dealt with<\/p>\n
your sin of neglect and abuse of your<\/p>\n
children at the cross God doesn't see<\/p>\n
you as a neglectful mom he sees you as<\/p>\n
his beautiful daughter you may have some<\/p>\n
addiction to food alcohol work or<\/p>\n
pornography that you continually fight<\/p>\n
and fall into if your faith is in Christ<\/p>\n
then God dealt with your sin of<\/p>\n
addiction at the cross when God looks at<\/p>\n
you he doesn't see you as an addict he<\/p>\n
sees you as his righteous<\/p>\n
son children you may struggle to listen<\/p>\n
to and obey your parents God doesn't<\/p>\n
look on you in disgust and see you as a<\/p>\n
disobedient child if your faith is in<\/p>\n
Christ then God dealt with your sin at<\/p>\n
the cross and he now looks upon you with<\/p>\n
endearment as his child<\/p>\n
Christ has dealt with every one of our<\/p>\n
sins at the<\/p>\n
cross the sins that we continue to<\/p>\n
commit they no longer Define who we are<\/p>\n
no past present or future sin can take<\/p>\n
away our new identity of being clean<\/p>\n
before the Lord that he has given to us<\/p>\n
in Christ whenever Christ defeated our<\/p>\n
sin at the cross and so rest assured<\/p>\n
that nothing can ever take away the new<\/p>\n
identity you have or the sparkle in<\/p>\n
God's eyes as he looks upon you as his<\/p>\n
child child let's<\/p>\n
pray dear Lord we thank you so much for<\/p>\n
your word we thank you for how it<\/p>\n
teaches you about uh teaches us about<\/p>\n
you it teaches you us about your your<\/p>\n
power that you've shown through Jesus by<\/p>\n
him conquering our sin by him conquering<\/p>\n
all of our enemies all of the evil<\/p>\n
powers that keep would keep us from<\/p>\n
having life in you Jesus we thank you so<\/p>\n
much for going to the cross for<\/p>\n
conquering our sin for us the father<\/p>\n
looked upon you as Sin dear Lord so that<\/p>\n
we would be able to escape that so that<\/p>\n
he can now look upon us as being<\/p>\n
clean we thank you so much for the work<\/p>\n
that you have done for us we thank you<\/p>\n
for caring about us so much you want us<\/p>\n
to have peace dear Lord uh not only in<\/p>\n
the life to to come but also in this<\/p>\n
lifetime we thank you for giving us a<\/p>\n
new belonging to you we no longer um<\/p>\n
have uh rejection dear Lord that should<\/p>\n
cause us harm because our ultimate sense<\/p>\n
of of belonging is found in you we thank<\/p>\n
you for the new family that you have<\/p>\n
given to us we are your beloved children<\/p>\n
de Lord you look upon us with love and<\/p>\n
so we thank you so much for conquering<\/p>\n
our sin we thank you for your care and<\/p>\n
compassion for us and I pray all this in<\/p>\n
