dear heavenly father we thank you so<\/p>\n
much for your word we thank you that you<\/p>\n
give us grace through it as uh aan Nati<\/p>\n

do that now for us as as we look at<\/p>\n
First Corinthians I pray that you will<\/p>\n
speak through me uh your servant dear<\/p>\n
Lord Lord I pray that um I will move<\/p>\n
into the the background into the Shadows<\/p>\n
dear Lord and I pray that you will speak<\/p>\n
through me I pray that your word will<\/p>\n
work in our hearts and our minds and I<\/p>\n
pray that your holy spirit will will be<\/p>\n
with us um and I pray that you will be<\/p>\n
with Becca as she teaches the children I<\/p>\n
pray that you will do the same for her I<\/p>\n
pray that you will speak through her I<\/p>\n
pray that you will use your word to<\/p>\n
encourage the children to strengthen<\/p>\n
them in the faith in the gospel and I<\/p>\n
just pray that you will give us more uh<\/p>\n
love for you as we walk away today after<\/p>\n
having looked at your<\/p>\n
word the grass withers and the flower<\/p>\n
Fades but your word stands forever dear<\/p>\n
Lord we can build our lives on your word<\/p>\n
it is a rock it is solid we thank you<\/p>\n
for it bless us during this time I pray<\/p>\n
all this in Jesus name<\/p>\n
amen if if we want to see Disciples of<\/p>\n
Jesus mature in their walk with him then<\/p>\n
we should understand what type of heart<\/p>\n
and mind a disciplemaker should have and<\/p>\n
how growth in the gospel takes<\/p>\n
place Paul helps us with this in 1<\/p>\n
Corinthians 3:<\/p>\n
5-9 and the context of this passage is<\/p>\n
that the Corinthians are boasting in<\/p>\n
those who are discipling them they are<\/p>\n
boasting in their disciplemakers they<\/p>\n
are comparing guys in leadership in the<\/p>\n
church it might be like two groups at<\/p>\n
Grace City comparing aan Nati with aant<\/p>\n
Trey one group might say aan NTI has a<\/p>\n
doctorate and he knows his stuff really<\/p>\n
well uh whenever I walk away from his<\/p>\n
sermons I really feel like I understand<\/p>\n
the gospel other group might say aant<\/p>\n
Tre has the best PowerPoint presentation<\/p>\n
I've ever seen whenever I look at his<\/p>\n
his pictures I understand the gospel and<\/p>\n
and I can apply it to my life and<\/p>\n
besides that he's an American football<\/p>\n
fan he loves the Georgia Bulldogs and so<\/p>\n
on my list he's top topnotch in the<\/p>\n
discipl<\/p>\n
makers two of the most well-known<\/p>\n
leaders among the Corinthians were<\/p>\n
called up in this conflict and these two<\/p>\n
leaders were Paul and<\/p>\n
apollis Paul who is the the author of<\/p>\n
First Corinthians wants to put an end to<\/p>\n
their prideful and childish way that<\/p>\n
they are behaving and so he writes a<\/p>\n
letter to them and in this letter he<\/p>\n
uses himself as an illustration to<\/p>\n
explain to them their thinking and their<\/p>\n
behavior and how it is foolish and so we<\/p>\n
have a lot to learn about discipleship<\/p>\n
from this illustration so with this in<\/p>\n
mind let's look at 1 Corinthians uh 3<\/p>\n
verses<\/p>\n
5-9 uh if you would please Advance the<\/p>\n
slide um 1 Corinthians 3: 5-9<\/p>\n
what then is Apollos what is Paul<\/p>\n
servants through whom you believed as<\/p>\n
the Lord assigned to each I planted<\/p>\n
Apollos watered but God gave the growth<\/p>\n
so neither he who plants nor he who<\/p>\n
Waters is anything but only God who<\/p>\n
gives the growth he who plants and he<\/p>\n
who waters are one and each will receive<\/p>\n
his wages according to his labor for we<\/p>\n
are God's fellow workers you are God's<\/p>\n
filled God's<\/p>\n
Building and so this passage gives us a<\/p>\n
good picture of how we are to think<\/p>\n
about the relationship between our role<\/p>\n
in responsibility and God's role in<\/p>\n
responsibility in<\/p>\n
discipleship so let's look first at our<\/p>\n
role and responsibility in<\/p>\n
discipleship oh thank you thank<\/p>\n
you uh how does Paul describe his and<\/p>\n
Apollo's role in<\/p>\n
discipleship Paul described Des cribes<\/p>\n
their role as servants are workers of<\/p>\n
the lord we would disciple others we are<\/p>\n
Servants of the Lord by serving<\/p>\n
others and what is the responsibility of<\/p>\n
a servant or a<\/p>\n
worker it is to complete the assignment<\/p>\n
that the one in charge has assigned to<\/p>\n
them so in the case of Paul and Apollos<\/p>\n
and also in the case of us it is to do<\/p>\n
the work of discipleship that the Lord<\/p>\n
has given to us in our context<\/p>\n
God tells us in many places throughout<\/p>\n
scripture to be Faithful Servants by<\/p>\n
making<\/p>\n
disciples fathers are called to bring<\/p>\n
children up in the dis discipline and<\/p>\n
the instruction of the<\/p>\n
Lord all believers are called to to stir<\/p>\n
one another another up to love and good<\/p>\n
works elders and teachers in the church<\/p>\n
are to know sound Doctrine so that they<\/p>\n
can teach others the truths of the<\/p>\n
Gospel<\/p>\n
older women in the church are to train<\/p>\n
the younger women in gospel<\/p>\n
truths husbands are called to disciple<\/p>\n
Liv<\/p>\n
wives in a list of scripture that caus<\/p>\n
us discipleship it could go on and on<\/p>\n
and the point is that we are all<\/p>\n
responsible for discipling one another<\/p>\n
in some shape or<\/p>\n
form some have more areas of<\/p>\n
discipleship that they are responsible<\/p>\n
for and others have less and you can<\/p>\n
think of task of discipleship kind of<\/p>\n
like gears in a clock each Will turns<\/p>\n
and it contributes to the purpose or<\/p>\n
function of the clock in some way in<\/p>\n
some gears they're a little bit bigger<\/p>\n
um some gears they're a little bit<\/p>\n
smaller but they're all important for<\/p>\n
the function of the clock and so there's<\/p>\n
no one who's a Christian who is not<\/p>\n
called to disciple others you're a gear<\/p>\n
that fits into the clock somewhere with<\/p>\n
the purpose of discipling<\/p>\n
someone this doesn't mean that you have<\/p>\n
to to lead a small group or to to teach<\/p>\n
Sunday school all of these things are<\/p>\n
good it could mean you speak a gospel<\/p>\n
centered word of encouragement to<\/p>\n
someone you know is struggling with a<\/p>\n
particular<\/p>\n
sin it could mean that you call someone<\/p>\n
on the phone that week and read them<\/p>\n
John 3:16 to help them to understand<\/p>\n
God's love for<\/p>\n
them think about your context and where<\/p>\n
God has placed you and ask God where and<\/p>\n
how he would use you to decide Le<\/p>\n
others and so as a servant of the lord<\/p>\n
we are responsible for discipling<\/p>\n
others to go back to Paul's<\/p>\n
illustration there is some part of God's<\/p>\n
field that we are to be attending to we<\/p>\n
are also responsible for using our<\/p>\n
specific gifts to disciple<\/p>\n
others Paul will go on a little bit<\/p>\n
later in the book in in 1 Corinthians 12<\/p>\n
to talk about how God gives us all<\/p>\n
different gifts us and he gives us these<\/p>\n
gifts so that we can serve one another<\/p>\n
so that we can disciple one another and<\/p>\n
build each up each other up in the<\/p>\n
gospel and Paul makes a distinction in<\/p>\n
gifting in our<\/p>\n
text what then is Apollos what is Paul<\/p>\n
gives the<\/p>\n
growth both Paul and Apollos they both<\/p>\n
have the the gift of evangelism he says<\/p>\n
that they are servants through whom the<\/p>\n
Corinthians believed and so they both<\/p>\n
share the gospel with others but this<\/p>\n
was Paul's focus in Ministry to the<\/p>\n
Corinthians Paul planted the gospel me<\/p>\n
which means that he shared the gospel<\/p>\n
with others through evangelism and<\/p>\n
people came to Faith through him this<\/p>\n
was his main task and then Apollos<\/p>\n
watered and came behind Paul and<\/p>\n
continued to instruct people in the<\/p>\n
gospel so discipleship looked different<\/p>\n
for Paul and Apollos because of the<\/p>\n
different gifts that God had given to<\/p>\n
each you don't have to be aan n or you<\/p>\n
don't have to be aan Trey God has gifted<\/p>\n
them differently than you you were<\/p>\n
called to use the the gifts that God has<\/p>\n
given to you in the context that he has<\/p>\n
placed you in so serve the Lord by using<\/p>\n
the gifts he has given to to you to<\/p>\n
serve others and point them to the<\/p>\n
gospel discipleship will look different<\/p>\n
from everyone but we all have the same<\/p>\n
role of servant of the<\/p>\n
Lord gospel of Center disciple ships<\/p>\n
means that we are faithful to use the<\/p>\n
God has given the gifts that God has<\/p>\n
given to us God uses our efforts as a<\/p>\n
channel in which he brings about gospel<\/p>\n
change and gospel<\/p>\n
growth and a good way to to think about<\/p>\n
our role and responsibility in discip<\/p>\n
ship is to think of ourselves kind of<\/p>\n
like the the blue PVC pipe that you see<\/p>\n
a water uh being carried into your home<\/p>\n
or to your<\/p>\n
apartment if you were to to look at a<\/p>\n
piece of this pipe if you were to go to<\/p>\n
to home Pro and to look at a piece of<\/p>\n
this pipe and to to look through it uh<\/p>\n
it would be clear and so you could see<\/p>\n
to the end of the other<\/p>\n
side the water the the pipe in your<\/p>\n
apartment or your home it carries water<\/p>\n
but it is neither the lifegiving water<\/p>\n
nor the source of water it is the pipe<\/p>\n
and that is its purpose is to carry<\/p>\n
water and so what should we take away<\/p>\n
from this about our role and<\/p>\n
discipleship we are to be Faithful<\/p>\n
Servants of the Lord and use the gifts<\/p>\n
that he has given to us to disciple<\/p>\n
others do you think of yourself as the<\/p>\n
pipe that God uses to carry lifegiving<\/p>\n
water to<\/p>\n
others do you think of yourself as being<\/p>\n
used by God to bring about growth in<\/p>\n
other<\/p>\n
Christians one common phrase among<\/p>\n
Christians is to to let go and and to<\/p>\n
let<\/p>\n
God I'm sure many of you have have<\/p>\n
probably heard that phrase It's a common<\/p>\n
phrase and there is truth in that phrase<\/p>\n
but we have to be careful how we apply<\/p>\n
it some people think that God is going<\/p>\n
to disciple others without me that he<\/p>\n
just doesn't need me and they don't see<\/p>\n
God calls us to disciple others so that<\/p>\n
he can bring life and growth to<\/p>\n
people we've just looked at our role in<\/p>\n
responsibility in discipleship let's<\/p>\n
look now at God's role in uh<\/p>\n
discipleship the Corinthians had put<\/p>\n
Paul and Apollos on a pedestal and given<\/p>\n
them an authority and power that did not<\/p>\n
belong to them Paul says that God is the<\/p>\n
one who assigned Paul and Apollo to<\/p>\n
bring the gospel to the<\/p>\n
Corinthians God is the boss and he is<\/p>\n
orchestrating his plan through us God is<\/p>\n
the driving force behind everything that<\/p>\n
is happening the power of the Gospel to<\/p>\n
change people it doesn't reside with<\/p>\n
Paul and Apollos but in God and so at<\/p>\n
the heart of the Gospel is that God is<\/p>\n
bringing about good for his people that<\/p>\n
they can't bring about for<\/p>\n
themselves God is the one who is<\/p>\n
spiritually nourishing us he is the one<\/p>\n
who by his grace gives life and then<\/p>\n
growth going back to the illustration of<\/p>\n
the the blue PVC pipe in your home God<\/p>\n
is like the the source of the spring<\/p>\n
water that comes through the pipes he<\/p>\n
supplies the water that gives life and<\/p>\n
growth to those in the house that drink<\/p>\n
it as we disciple others we must realize<\/p>\n
that our disciples growth in the gospel<\/p>\n
it comes from the<\/p>\n
Lord you can be the the blue py TVC pipe<\/p>\n
in your home and that you carry the<\/p>\n
water to someone but you can't change a<\/p>\n
person's heart you're not the source of<\/p>\n
water itself so you cannot give life or<\/p>\n
growth and so we are dependent upon<\/p>\n
God's grace for anything that we do as a<\/p>\n
disciplemaker to be<\/p>\n
effective we are dependent upon in need<\/p>\n
of God to be gracious and SP Supply what<\/p>\n
is needed for discipleship or disciples<\/p>\n
growth he has he must Supply the water<\/p>\n
and so we've looked at both God's<\/p>\n
responsibility and our responsibility in<\/p>\n
discipleship we looked at both of those<\/p>\n
roles we've seen that we are called to<\/p>\n
be a god dependent<\/p>\n
disciplemaker let's look now at the<\/p>\n
heart and mind that we should have as<\/p>\n
disciplemakers Paul is illustrates to us<\/p>\n
the heart and mind of humility that a<\/p>\n
disciplemaker should have and how how<\/p>\n
does he do this he belittles him himself<\/p>\n
in the eyes of those who esteem<\/p>\n
him he speaks of himself as a a servant<\/p>\n
and counts himself and Apollos as<\/p>\n
nothing he wants God to get all of the<\/p>\n
credit and all the glory that he<\/p>\n
deserves for the Corinthians come into<\/p>\n
faith and also for their growth in the<\/p>\n
faith Paul knows he can't take credit<\/p>\n
for this and he doesn't want<\/p>\n
to before the invention of automatic<\/p>\n
lights that could dim and move on their<\/p>\n
own theaters had a lighting crew to<\/p>\n
adjust lighting and some of the lights<\/p>\n
would would sit on the swivel and the<\/p>\n
lighting crew could quickly turn these<\/p>\n
lights and they could Point them on<\/p>\n
something and highlight people or places<\/p>\n
on the<\/p>\n
stage and Paul is acting like a director<\/p>\n
in that he is T talking to a lighting<\/p>\n
crew in a rehearsal that is going<\/p>\n
horribly<\/p>\n
wrong he stops the rehearsal and talks a<\/p>\n
lighting crew and he says guys what what<\/p>\n
are you<\/p>\n
doing you were getting it wrong you were<\/p>\n
putting the spotlight on the wrong ones<\/p>\n
here he goes up where the the lighting<\/p>\n
crew is and he takes the two handlebars<\/p>\n
that are on the light and he turns it to<\/p>\n
the main character on stage and he says<\/p>\n
you are pointing at the light at all the<\/p>\n
other characters on stage and you are<\/p>\n
missing the main star of the show you<\/p>\n
are missing the one who is most<\/p>\n
important here<\/p>\n
he then tells them to to follow this<\/p>\n
character throughout the performance<\/p>\n
because he is the most important one<\/p>\n
that the play centers around he is the<\/p>\n
one that gives the play<\/p>\n
meaning without him there is no play in<\/p>\n
what happens on stage it doesn't<\/p>\n
matter the Corinthians have put the<\/p>\n
spotlight on the leaders in Corinth like<\/p>\n
Apollos and<\/p>\n
Paul Paul takes the spotlight off of<\/p>\n
them and puts it on<\/p>\n
God the Corinthians are not to boast in<\/p>\n
him or in<\/p>\n
because they are both on the same status<\/p>\n
level of being Servants of God and they<\/p>\n
both are unable to bring about gospel<\/p>\n
growth and<\/p>\n
people Paul makes himself look weak here<\/p>\n
because he's saying I have no ability to<\/p>\n
do anything it is all of<\/p>\n
God he is pointing the Corinthians to<\/p>\n
look past the Servants of the field and<\/p>\n
look to God who is the boss who is<\/p>\n
orchestrating everything and bringing<\/p>\n
about the gospel<\/p>\n
growth and this is the same heart and<\/p>\n
attitude we want to have as we disciple<\/p>\n
others gospel centered<\/p>\n
discipleship uh seeks<\/p>\n
humility if you want to Be an Effective<\/p>\n
disciplemaker then ask God to Humble you<\/p>\n
you want both you and the ones that you<\/p>\n
disciple to look to God for<\/p>\n
growth and how are you doing in these<\/p>\n
areas as a<\/p>\n
disciplemaker do you look to yourself to<\/p>\n
to get things done or you do you look to<\/p>\n
God to work through you are you<\/p>\n
dependent upon yourself or are you<\/p>\n
dependent on<\/p>\n
God and a good test is is to look at<\/p>\n
your prayer<\/p>\n
life how much time do you spend praying<\/p>\n
for your<\/p>\n
disciples a disciplemaker who is in need<\/p>\n
and dependent on God will spend time<\/p>\n
praying for those he or she<\/p>\n
disciples and that is what we're about<\/p>\n
to look at now we need to continually<\/p>\n
remember that our power to disciple<\/p>\n
others comes from God it doesn't come<\/p>\n
from<\/p>\n
us if you are struggling in this area<\/p>\n
then I encourage you to memorize this<\/p>\n
passage or to at least write it down on<\/p>\n
an index card and place it in your Bible<\/p>\n
or somewhere so that whenever you<\/p>\n
disciple others you are reminded to<\/p>\n
depend on God for their life and growth<\/p>\n
in the<\/p>\n
gospel let's look now at how gospel<\/p>\n
centered discipleship moves us to<\/p>\n
prayer God's word teaches us if we are<\/p>\n
in need of something that we should come<\/p>\n
to him and ask him to supply<\/p>\n
it and we have just seen that we are in<\/p>\n
need of God to work through us to grow<\/p>\n
people in the gospel if we want God to<\/p>\n
use us as discipl makers we should<\/p>\n
become prayer<\/p>\n
warriors everything that we do as a<\/p>\n
disciplemaker should start with and be<\/p>\n
saturated in<\/p>\n
prayer the first thing that we should do<\/p>\n
is spend time on our knees praying<\/p>\n
before the Lord before anything else<\/p>\n
that we attempt to do as disciple<\/p>\n
makers and so in teaching we should be<\/p>\n
in prayer in preparation we should be in<\/p>\n
prayer before teaching and during<\/p>\n
teaching I had a friend in a seminary<\/p>\n
once who told me that he was uh<\/p>\n
preaching sermon in Uganda he said I<\/p>\n
just didn't I didn't feel prepared for<\/p>\n
the sermon uh and I did as I was up<\/p>\n
there preaching um I didn't feel like I<\/p>\n
understood what was going on so he said<\/p>\n
I just stopped and I prayed and I was<\/p>\n
dependent upon the Lord to speak through<\/p>\n
me we need to have that same attitude we<\/p>\n
need to have that same mind and that<\/p>\n
same heart is that we go to the Lord<\/p>\n
constantly in<\/p>\n
prayer part of discipleship one of the<\/p>\n
the the tough parts of discipleship is<\/p>\n
rebuking<\/p>\n
others part of discipleship is talking<\/p>\n
to other Christians about areas of sin<\/p>\n
in their lives that are not honoring to<\/p>\n
Christ we are called to speak the truth<\/p>\n
in love to someone that is living in sin<\/p>\n
and this is what Paul is doing in the<\/p>\n
text that we are looking at in 1<\/p>\n
5-9 the Corinthians are are acting in a<\/p>\n
sinful way so he has written them in<\/p>\n
part of his letter to rebuke them and so<\/p>\n
we need to pray for for their heart to<\/p>\n
be receptive to receiving God's word in<\/p>\n
correction we need to pray for our heart<\/p>\n
to speak words of Grace in<\/p>\n
humility what about displaying the<\/p>\n
gospel we need to pray that God will<\/p>\n
work in our hearts and our minds so that<\/p>\n
we will live out the gospel well before<\/p>\n
our<\/p>\n
disciples we need to ask the Lord to to<\/p>\n
use our lives to encourage others to<\/p>\n
live out the gospel as<\/p>\n
well part of the discipleship means<\/p>\n
living with people and so whenever you<\/p>\n
live with people you realize that no<\/p>\n
matter who it is what Aon it is you know<\/p>\n
that they are sinful and so you're going<\/p>\n
to see that sin come up in their lives<\/p>\n
how do they handle it do they go to the<\/p>\n
person and ask for<\/p>\n
forgiveness as we offend others and go<\/p>\n
and ask for forgiveness we need to ask<\/p>\n
the Lord to use this situation whenever<\/p>\n
we ask for forgiveness in our disciples<\/p>\n
lives so they see that and so they see<\/p>\n
the gospel in us they see forgiveness<\/p>\n
being displayed in<\/p>\n
us what about embracing the gospel we<\/p>\n
need to pray that God will grow our<\/p>\n
hearts in the gospel so that we will<\/p>\n
know it well and be able to share gospel<\/p>\n
truths with<\/p>\n
others we just looked at using prayer as<\/p>\n
a way to ask the Lord to bless the<\/p>\n
different task of discipleship like<\/p>\n
embracing the gospel displaying and<\/p>\n
teaching the gospel let's look now at<\/p>\n
using prayer as a task of discipleship<\/p>\n
in and of<\/p>\n
itself we want to pray the gospel for<\/p>\n
those that we disciple<\/p>\n
God uses Our Gospel centered prayers to<\/p>\n
grow people in the gospel just like he<\/p>\n
might use our our teaching our<\/p>\n
displaying the gospel or embracing the<\/p>\n
gospel the Apostle Paul gives us an<\/p>\n
example of how to pray the gospel in<\/p>\n
Colossians uh chapter 1 verses 3 through<\/p>\n
verse uh<\/p>\n
14 there it<\/p>\n
is we always thank God the father of our<\/p>\n
Lord Jesus Christ when we pray for you<\/p>\n
since we have since we heard of your<\/p>\n
faith in Christ Jesus and of the love<\/p>\n
that you have for all the saints because<\/p>\n
of the Hope laid up for you in heaven of<\/p>\n
this you have heard before in the TR the<\/p>\n
word of Truth The Gospel which has come<\/p>\n
to you as indeed in the whole world it<\/p>\n
is bearing fruit and growing as it also<\/p>\n
does among you since the day you heard<\/p>\n
it and understood the grace of God in<\/p>\n
truth as you learned it from epas our<\/p>\n
beloved fellow servant he is a faithful<\/p>\n
minister of Christ on your behalf and<\/p>\n
has made known to us your love in the<\/p>\n
spirit uh next slide<\/p>\n
please okay there we go and so from the<\/p>\n
day we heard we have not ceased to pray<\/p>\n
for you asking that you may be filled<\/p>\n
with the knowledge of his will in all<\/p>\n
spiritual wisdom and understanding so as<\/p>\n
to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord<\/p>\n
fully pleasing to him bearing fruit in<\/p>\n
every good work and increasing in the<\/p>\n
knowledge of God may you be strengthened<\/p>\n
with all power according to his glorious<\/p>\n
might for all endurance and patience<\/p>\n
with joy giving thanks to the father who<\/p>\n
has qualified you to share in the<\/p>\n
inheritance of the Saints in light he<\/p>\n
has delivered us from the domain of<\/p>\n
darkness and transferred us to the<\/p>\n
kingdom of his beloved Son in whom we<\/p>\n
have Redemption the Forgiveness of<\/p>\n
sins and so in this text we see the<\/p>\n
importance that Paul places on prayer<\/p>\n
for gospel prayer for<\/p>\n
believers and he says in verse n and so<\/p>\n
from the day we heard we have not ceased<\/p>\n
to pray for you so from the first day<\/p>\n
that Paul heard of the colossian faith<\/p>\n
of their hope of their love and their<\/p>\n
growth in the gospel he has been praying<\/p>\n
for<\/p>\n
them the church in uh colassi is doing<\/p>\n
well they are growing in the gospel and<\/p>\n
Paul wants to to pray that they will<\/p>\n
continue to do well and so you can see<\/p>\n
that the way that Paul views prayer here<\/p>\n
he continues on in prayer for gospel<\/p>\n
growth in the Colossians because he sees<\/p>\n
that prayer is something that God will<\/p>\n
use to increase their growth in the<\/p>\n
gospel he wants the Colossians to<\/p>\n
increase abundantly in the gospel and in<\/p>\n
Colossians 4:12 Paul again shows us how<\/p>\n
his fellow worker in the gospel places<\/p>\n
importance on prayer for the Colossians<\/p>\n
growth in the gospel he says epis who is<\/p>\n
one of you a servant of Christ Jesus<\/p>\n
greets you always struggling on your<\/p>\n
behalf in his prayers that you may stand<\/p>\n
mature and fully assured in all the will<\/p>\n
of God and so epis is one of the ones<\/p>\n
that led the Colossians to Faith and he<\/p>\n
is constantly in prayer for them in<\/p>\n
order for them to become mature in the<\/p>\n
faith God uses Our Gospel Center prayers<\/p>\n
to grow IMM mature<\/p>\n
Believers and so let us pray without<\/p>\n
ceasing with expectation that God will<\/p>\n
use our prayers for the growth of his<\/p>\n
field are we praying like this for our<\/p>\n
brothers and sisters in the<\/p>\n
faith are we praying for gospel growth<\/p>\n
for those who have just come to the<\/p>\n
faith at Grace<\/p>\n
City fathers and mothers are you praying<\/p>\n
for gospel growth in your children<\/p>\n
husbands are you praying for gospel<\/p>\n
growth in your wife leaders in the<\/p>\n
church are you praying for gospel growth<\/p>\n
in those that God has called you to<\/p>\n
Shepherd what do we pray for when we are<\/p>\n
praying for gospel<\/p>\n
growth the simple answer is that we we<\/p>\n
pray the<\/p>\n
gospel and a good place to start is to<\/p>\n
follow in the steps of the Apostle Paul<\/p>\n
he says you may be filled with the<\/p>\n
knowledge of his will and all spiritual<\/p>\n
wisdom and understanding so as to walk<\/p>\n
in a manner worthy of the Lord fully<\/p>\n
pleasing to him bearing fruit in every<\/p>\n
good<\/p>\n
work and so Paul is praying that the<\/p>\n
Colossians will know God and that they<\/p>\n
will seek him to live the life that he<\/p>\n
is calling them to live they're asking<\/p>\n
him for his will for knowledge of how to<\/p>\n
live and so we encounter Cho choices<\/p>\n
every day where we have the freedom to<\/p>\n
to<\/p>\n
choose we have the holy spirit in us and<\/p>\n
so we want to pray that the Lord will<\/p>\n
use his holy spirit to help us to make<\/p>\n
choices that are according to his ways<\/p>\n
and the way that he wants us to live we<\/p>\n
want to pray that God will use his holy<\/p>\n
spirit to give on our disciples the<\/p>\n
ability to make decisions in light of<\/p>\n
the Gospel that honor and please<\/p>\n
him he goes on to say that they will<\/p>\n
increase in the knowledge of God we want<\/p>\n
those that we decide iple to know more<\/p>\n
about God so they can treasure him more<\/p>\n
so we want to pray that God will show<\/p>\n
them more of who he is and that they<\/p>\n
will comprehend more and more about his<\/p>\n
character more about his attributes of<\/p>\n
of who he is of how wonderful he<\/p>\n
is he says may you be strengthened with<\/p>\n
all power according to his glorious<\/p>\n
with<\/p>\n
joy for us to to walk in a manner that<\/p>\n
is worthy of the Lord then the Lord must<\/p>\n
strengthen us to do so there are so many<\/p>\n
forces that will try to keep us from<\/p>\n
doing<\/p>\n
this the world that we live<\/p>\n
in even our own sinful nature that<\/p>\n
remains in US whenever we become<\/p>\n
Christians they will all try to keep us<\/p>\n
from living in the way that the Lord<\/p>\n
wants us to<\/p>\n
live as those we disciple face<\/p>\n
difficulty and adversity from the evil<\/p>\n
one in life we want to pray that the<\/p>\n
Lord will strengthen them to endure and<\/p>\n
to help them to live for him according<\/p>\n
to his ways in all of this we want to to<\/p>\n
for people to have joy in the midst of<\/p>\n
this he goes on to say give thanks to<\/p>\n
the father who has qualified you to<\/p>\n
share in the inheritance of the Saints<\/p>\n
in<\/p>\n
light he has delivered us from the<\/p>\n
domain of darkness and transferred us to<\/p>\n
the kingdom of his beloved Son in whom<\/p>\n
we have Redemption the Forgiveness of<\/p>\n
sins<\/p>\n
and so lastly we should pray for our<\/p>\n
disciples to know the inheritance that<\/p>\n
they have in<\/p>\n
Jesus we are part of his kingdom now<\/p>\n
there's nothing that can separate us<\/p>\n
from him or his love not even our sin<\/p>\n
because he has forgiven us of it and so<\/p>\n
a guilty conscience can rob us of the<\/p>\n
joy that Christ came to give and so we<\/p>\n
want to to pray for our disciples we<\/p>\n
want to pray that they will know the<\/p>\n
gospel well that they will know God's<\/p>\n
love for them<\/p>\n
well let let's<\/p>\n
pray dear heavenly father we thank you<\/p>\n
so much for using us to disciple others<\/p>\n
in your church is a it is a beautiful<\/p>\n
way um that you bring people to yourself<\/p>\n
and the way that you disciple people and<\/p>\n
and grow people in the gospel we pray<\/p>\n
that you will continue to to use us I<\/p>\n
pray that you will help us to to see uh<\/p>\n
that you have called us to disciple<\/p>\n
others there's no no one in this room<\/p>\n
who is not called to discipleship in<\/p>\n
some shape or form and so I pray that<\/p>\n
you will be help help us to be Faithful<\/p>\n
Servants like uh Paul and Apollos still<\/p>\n
Lord help us to to plant help us to to<\/p>\n
water but we know that only you can give<\/p>\n
growth dear Lord and so I pray that we<\/p>\n
will see ourselves as like the the PVC<\/p>\n
pipe that comes into the building or<\/p>\n
into her home dear Lord U only you can<\/p>\n
give grow<\/p>\n
only you can give life and so I pray<\/p>\n
that as we disciple others I pray that<\/p>\n
you will help us to be dependent upon<\/p>\n
you I pray that you will humble us dear<\/p>\n
Lord I pray that you will fill us with<\/p>\n
your Holy Spirit give us wisdom uh give<\/p>\n
us knowledge of you dear Lord give us<\/p>\n
love uh for one another and I pray all<\/p>\n
