as Tim as Tim mentioned today we

are going to be speaking about es Esther

5 we have been in the Book of Esther for

five weeks now and this is going to be

the the end of our time in Esther for

now so as we're approaching chapter 5

let's let's talk about how we've gotten

to where we are right now at Esther 1 we

met uh hashes or xer

uh who was a drunken arrogant Monarch

through 187 day party for himself so

that he could show off his wealth and

power and Prestige to all the important

people lived in his Empire at the end of

that party he tried to summon his wife

to show off her beauty for the people at

the party and she refused him so he

banished her from his Empire and he

needed a new Queen uh in chapter two

Xerxes and his advisers uh abducted

beautiful young women from around the

Empire and had a contest to see who

would be the next Queen and our heroine

Esther won that

contest as you hear about the contest

you might not think that winning it is

actually becoming Queen but for the

purposes of our story it is in chapter 3

we met hmon for the first time hmon is

our caricature of evil in the Book of

Esther he is our antagonist he rises to

power within the Empire of Persia Rises

to second in command and in doing so he

really becomes arrogant as well and

seeks uh for everybody he comes in

contact with to uh worship Him and cower

before him the same way they do the

king now we had one character Mori who

did not cower before hmon and Hon's

response was to orchestrate the genocide

of of all of the Jews in the Empire to

write this perceived

wrong uh in chapter 4 we saw Mori

grieved by the perceived irreversible

fate of the Jews um he tore his clothes

he uh was in sackcloth and mourning and

um he's praying and fasting for uh

discernment uh and he goes to Esther who

is living in the palace as Queen and she

says that she doesn't know if she can

help uh the king hasn't called on her in

a month and she's a little afraid for

her own safety to go to the king

unannounced Uninvited but the end of

that chapter ended with the proclamation

that Esther was going to go to the king

Uninvited she she had made this decision

to do so and that she she was going to

pray and fast for three days before she

did so uh and that's kind of where we

are as we enter chapter 5 we the author

of Esther has built tension in the story

as we're anxiously awaiting this

confrontation that we that we're going

to hear about in chapter 5 we're hanging

on their every word we are uh we're left

wondering what's going to happen at the

end of every chapter um before we just

binged watched everything on Netflix we

had to wait a week in between new TV TV

shows right um and that's kind of what's

happening in the Book of

Esther the the the author is um putting

characters In Harm's Way or wondering

what's going to happen the best TV shows

always had you uh sitting on the edge of

your seat debating with your friends

what was going to happen in the next

week um as you waited anxiously for the

next episode to come out and in chapter

five the author is gonna continue to

move that tension down the line uh in

chapter five Esther is g to have this

confrontation with Xerxes and she uh is

going to be given an opportunity to

share the the problem the danger that

her she finds herself in and her people

find themselves in and if we were

watching this on television we'd

probably be yelling at our at the TV

screen tell him tell him now tell him

what's going to happen but she doesn't

do it and we're probably thinking that

she just she blew it and at the end of

chapter 5 as we get an an episode about

hmon towards the end of chapter 5 we

think that because Esther

waited that Mori is gonna die before she

can do anything about it but what

happens next is that God steps into the

picture and it's not we realize that God

is the one who's really in control of

all of these events Esther or morai is

not going to save the Jews God is going

to save the

Jews Esther Mori hmon Xerxes they're not

in charge of what's happening in these

events God is the one who is in charge

of what's Happening God's invisible hand

as

called it last week is directing

everything that's happening in the Book

of Esther most of my discussion today is

going to focus on chapter 5 but since

this is the last sermon we're going to

have on Esther for a while uh in the

spirit of Bene watching I am going to

spoil the ending of the story for us so

with that in mind let's turn to our

text on the third

day Esther put on her royal robes and

stood in the inner Court of the king's

Palace in front of the king's quarters

while the King was sitting on his Royal

Throne inside the throne room opposite

the entrance to the palace and when the

king saw Queen Esther standing in the

court she won favor in his sight and he

held out to Esther the golden scepter

that was in his hand then Esther

approached and touched the tip of the

scepter scepter and the King said to her

what is it Queen Esther what is your

request it shall be given to you even to

the half of my kingdom and Esther said

if it please the king let the king and

hmon come to a feast that I have

prepared for the

king then the king said bring hmon

quickly so that we may do as Esther has

asked so the king and hmon came to the

feast that Esther had prepared and as

they were drinking wine after the feast

the king said to Esther what is your

wish it shall be granted to you and what

is your request even to the half of my

kingdom it shall be fulfilled then

Esther answered my wish and my request

is if I have found favor in the sight of

the king and if it pleased the king to

Grant My Wish and fill my fulfill my

request let the king and hmon come to

the feast that I will prepare for them

and tomorrow I will do as the King has

said and hmon went out that day joyful

and glad of heart but when hmon saw Mori

in the king's gate that he neither Rose

nor trembled before him he was filled

with wrath against Mori nevertheless

hmon restrained himself and went home

and he sent and brought with his friends

and his wife zeresh and hmon recounted

to them the Splendor of his riches the

number of his sons all the pro tions

with which the king had honored him and

how he had Advanced him above the

officials and the Servants of the

king then hmon said even Queen Esther

let no one but me come with the King To

The Feast she prepared and tomorrow also

I am I am invited by her together with

the King yet all this is worth nothing

to me so long as I see morai the Jews

sitting at the king's gate then his wife

sesh and all his friends said to him let

a Gallows 50 cubits High be made and in

the morning tell the king to have morai

hanged upon it then go joyfully with the

King To The Feast this idea pleased hmon

and he had the Gallows

made two roads diverged in a yellow wood

and sorry that I could not travel both

and be one traveler long I stood and

looked down one as far as I could to

where it bent in the undergrowth then

took the other as just as fair and

having perhaps the better claim because

it it was grassy and wanted

wear though as for that the passing

there had warned them really about the

same and both that morning equally lay

in leaves no step had troden black oh I

kept the first for another day yet

knowing how F away leaves leads on to

way I doubted if I should ever come back

I shall be telling this with a sigh

somewhere ages and ages hint two roads

diverged in a wood and I I took the One

Less Traveled by and that has made all

the

difference you might recognize those

words from uh Robert Frost's famous poem

The not taken uh in the poem The Poet

faces a fork in the road um he takes

time to weigh his options and eventually

takes the one that he perceives is Less

Traveled by Frost is trying to express

the uh the importance of the decisions

that were faced with in life and the

Merit in going against the grain but I

would go one step further and say that

this poem great metaphor for what's

happening in Esther 5 and in the

Christian Life

overall see and hmon are both at a

Crossroads during chapter 5 their next

DEC decision is of the utmost importance

because one path leads to destruction

and one path leads to

life they're standing at the fork in the

road they're gazing down as far as they

can see trying to perceive which way is

best they approach the decision in

different

ways

Esther seeks the Lord's wisdom she takes

time she discerns what the will of God

is she follows what it says in Proverbs

35 and6 trust in the Lord with all your

heart do not lean on your own

understanding and all your ways

acknowledge Him and He will make

straight your

paths she's discerned what she needs to

do over days as she seeks the Lord she

patiently waited at the fork in the road

for the Lord to whisper his Direction in

Wind on the other

hand hmon has chosen to follow the

path desire of fleshling of selfishness

and he follows the foolish foolish

counsel of his friends and it leads him

towards the path of

Destruction Esther is ready to

act hmon has already acted foolishly

recklessly let's see what happens to

them reminded of the words of Jesus in

Matthew 7:13-14

says enter by the narrow gate for the

gate is wide and the way is easy that

leads to destruction and those who enter

by it are many for the gate is narrow

and the way is hard that leads to life

and those who find it are

few hmon is going to take the easy

Road Esther will take the difficult

Road when you approach the forks in the

road in your life which road will you

take let me tell you frost is right

taking the narrow road taking The Road

Less Traveled by will make all the

difference because the difficulty of the

path is not what matters it's the

destination that will make the

difference while we may know which plan

will ultimately succeed in this in the

Book of Esther let's talk about how our

characters in our story arrive at their

destinations um we may see the decisions

are not exactly their own but God is

directing their paths in chapter 5 God

will providentially use Esther's plan

for the Deliverance of his people and

Hon's plan for the destruction of the

wicked God providentially uses Esther's

plan for the Deliverance of his people

and Hon's plan for the destruction of

wicked so as we uh shape our discussion

today first we're going to talk about

Hon's plan his decision to go down the

easy road then we're going to talk about

Esther's plan and her decision to take

the difficult path finally we're going

to talk about God's overarching

Providence that

is actually directing all of the events

of this story as we start chapter 5

hymon has already manipulated Xerxes

into oaying the genocide of all of the

Jews in the Empire on a set appointed

day uh but that's not enough for him in

verse n hmon fueled by lots of wine um

is feeling really

important he is really excited about his

sta his status his status his State and

life uh he's leaving a feast prepared by

Queen Esther that only he and the King

got to

attend he thinks he's made it he thinks

this is as good as it's ever going to

get

and but something immediately brings him

down from this pedestal that he's on he

beholds morai again in the king's gate

and morai isn't terrified of him he

stands up to him he doesn't bow before

him

uh and immediately all of this good will

that hmon has comes crashing

down so hmon takes a a page out of uh

xery's book and he calls all his

friends and in verses 10 through1 13 he

throws a party for himself where he

tells all his friends and advisers and

his wife how rich he is how powerful he

is how amazing he is but the one thorn

in his side is

Mori the one thing he can't get past is

that this one man stands up to him that

he won't cower before him and it makes

everything else not matter to to hmon

so zeresh his wife who is clearly a

lovely person suggests to hmon that he

should just kill Mori just kill him be

done with it then you can go be excited

about the feast that you're invited to

tomorrow you know she's just flippantly

growing about ideas here uh she wants

him to build a Gallows that's 50 cubits

high it's about 75t tall she wants them

to build a stake in their backyard

basically and what would be happening is

they would kill morai and then just hang

his body from it so everybody could see

that Mory had been killed very

flippantly just throwing about this idea

and hymon loves it heon's like let's do

that we're gonna we are going to do this

the good news for morai is that Hon's

plan is ultimately destined to fail

because he stands in opposition to God

and God's people there are two ways I

want to talk about that uh Hon's path

leads to destruction the first is that

hmon idolizes his own

significance Hon's plan is rooted in

self selfishness recklessness pride and

greed he idolizes himself in his own

Glory he craves recognition and will not

be satisfied until Mor gu respects him

or is dead his importance has become an

idol in his life and it supersedes

everything

else I'm reminded of the words of uh

Proverbs

1618 Pride goes before destruction and a

hotty spirit before a fall Hon's fall is

coming it's coming quickly and it will

be

spectacular he the warning of this

proverb and the moments in your life

when you are convinced of your

importance of your own significance

don't allow that to become an idol in

your life second way that sins hmon

toward the wide gate is that he takes

count foolish counsil from his friends

and his wife this counsel encourages him

to embrace the the most fleshly desires

of his heart he listens to a suggestion

to murder someone just so he can feel

better and his mind will be at ease when

he goes to another party do you have

people in your life that are encouraging

you to embrace the Temptations you face

embrace the fleshly side of your spirit

that's going to lead you to destruction

every time we have to surround ourselves

with people who will convict us who will

point us to repentance when we need to

be pointed to repentance hmon has

surrounded himself with people who will

just agree with whatever he says and

want to Puff him up we need people who

will be real with us and will tell us

when we're wrong and will point us to

Jesus and the grace that he offers

zeresh kind of changes her tune a little

bit at the end of chapter six uh she

says if Mori before whom you have begun

to fall is of the Jewish people you will

not overcome him but will surely fall

before him well I don't know where that

advice was in chapter 5 it would have

been helpful hmon might have made a

better decision uh unfortunately it's

too little too late for our guy in

Esther 6 and

7 we get to watch this spiral of hon

happen in in in Esther 6 uh there's wit

there's irony there's humor at Hon's

expense

because the author wants us to see how

foolish he is how prideful prideful he

is and what that's led him to do and how

it's led him to act in chapter six

hyon's coming to the Palace after the

events of chapter five and he is uh just

excited to go to another party all he's

got to do first is burn morai and then

he'll be on his way but he doesn't know

that at the beginning of chapter 6

Xerxes has been been awake all night he

couldn't sleep um and and trying in

trying to help himself sleep he opened

up his old record books and wanted to

read about his great deeds and the

things that had happened in his kingdom

seems kind of like just trying to read

an encyclopedia to put yourself to sleep

that's kind of what he's trying to do

but it just so happens that he he opens

a record book that has the um the record

of what happened at the end of eser 2 at

the end of Esther 2 morai overhears a

plot to uh to Assassin at Xerxes and he

tells Esther and Esther tells the king

and morai is supposed to be rewarded but

the king forgot he forgot to reward

morai and he's reading about this event

again and realizing that he never

rewarded

morai well um it just so happens that

hmon is walking into the court at the

time that they're trying to figure out

how they're going to reward morai but

hmon doesn't know that so when the King

asks him hey what should the what should

I do for the man that I Delight to honor

well because hmon is who he is he

believes that that's him he thinks he's

the one who's about to be honored he

thinks there's nobody else in the

Kingdom that the the king would Delight

to honor so when he says what should the

reward should be he's thinking about

himself he's thinking this is all going

to be given to him so what he what does

he say he says for the man whom the king

Delights to honor let Royal robes be

brought which the king has worn and the

horse that the King has ridden and on

whose head a Royal Crown is set and let

the robes and the horse be handed over

to one of the king's most noble

officials let them dress the man whom

the king Delights to honor and let them

lead him on a horse through the

square

so hmon wants to be

Xerxes he wants to wear the robes that

the King has worn he wants to have a

crown put on his head he wants to ride a

horse that the King has ridden it's not

enough for him to be second in command

he wants to be the king he wants to be

just like the king what do you think

that he thought when Xerxes said okay

now that sounds great now go do all that

for morai the Jew so not only is hmon

not the one record rewarded he is the

one who has to go about the city

proclaiming that morai is the man who

the king Delights to honor he has to put

xerx royal robes on him he has to put

him on xerx horse he has to put a crown

on his head and he has to walk in front

of the horse and say this this is what

will happen for the man who the king

Delights to

honor now if if hmon didn't already

realize that he was he was going towards

destruction he should have in this

moment he but yet he's still trying to

find a way to destroy the Jews he's

still trying to find a way to destroy

morai and he's he's phased a little bit

but he's like okay I can still do this

I'm just going to go to this field

with Esther and then we'll get this done

unfortunately for him he doesn't realize

that Esther and mor are related he

doesn't realize that Esther is planning

to

reveal in chapter 7 what hmon has done

how he has planned the destruction of

Esther and her people and when that's

revealed he is the one who cowers before

Esther he's been wanting morai to cower

before him this whole time but he is the

one who cowers before Esther and in a

last bit of irony

he is hung on the very Gallows that he

intended for Mori if you start down the

broad path there is only one

destination

destruction truthfully this is what will

happen to anyone who stands in

opposition of God if we're seeking our

own glory and our own recognition if

we're working against God we are doomed

to destruction what are the ways in your

life right now that you're standing

against God have you fallen in love with

your own Glory with your own

significance with your own

status with where you stand at your job

with your friends in your life how much

money is in your bank account are you

craving self-recognition over God's

glory have you surrounded yourself with

voices that will puff you up instead of

convicting you we have to turn from

these things and seek Christ instead of

following in the footsteps of hmon

follow the footsteps of Esther Esther

has spent three days Discerning her plan

and the Lord's will for what she needs

to do next she hasn't taken this

decision lightly she understands the

risks think about what happened to to

vashi she knows how Xerxes deals with

people who don't follow protocol in

chapter two we talked about how Esther

had kind of thrown aside her Jewish uh

Heritage she had cast aside her Jewish

Heritage as hadassa which is her Jewish

name and fully become Esther to save

herself from any Prejudice that she

might experience in her competition to

become

Queen now in her people's time of need

she's willing to forsake her own safety

and the safety that she's experienced

within the palace walls and take action

on that fourth

morning God gives her the opportunity to

stand firm to stand up for herself and

her people on that fourth morning she

puts on her royal robes she goes into

the court king's court and she's

standing before Xerxes and we know what

she would have seen she would have seen

Xerxes standing sitting on his throne

with his Royal scepter and behind the

throne would have been a guard who had a

sharpened Axe and that guard was

prepared to execute anyone whom Xerxes

willed so as she's standing there

looking up at Xerxes waiting to be

noticed she also is seeing her potential

executioner right there can you imagine

how her hands would have sweat how her

knees probably quak how her breath

hitched when Xerxes finally finally

noticed

her but Against All

Odds she wins the favor of Xerxes Xerxes

sees her and she wins his

favor there's some significance in the

use of that word she she has taken

action and she's being rewarded for it

she is it's an active verb she won his

favor she didn't she didn't find it or

have it given to her she won it she did

something to receive

it Esther started to take control of the

situation she started to take action and

is being rewarded it's also clear from

the way that xerx xerx request that he's

curious why she would forsake protocol

in order to come before

him and as you read her uh her be the

the uh offer that he gives

her um you're thinking tell him Esther

now is your chance he offered you half

have his kingdom tell

him the dire situation that you find

yourself in but she doesn't do it what

does she do she invites him to a party

we know Xerxes loves a party so she

invites him to a party and the one other

person she invites is hmon the man who

has orchestrated the murder and genocide

of her and all her people he is the only

other person invited at the

feast so at the feast she gets another

opportunity and what happens she puts it

off till

tomorrow and we wonder why did you do

that we think she's failed

potentially and some commentators do

think that Esther didn't share her

request because she was

afraid U I'm of the opinion that she was

being very purposeful with everything

that she did

she spent three days Discerning God's

will she knew exactly what she was doing

she knew exactly how she was leading

Xerxes along she knew exactly how to

dangle the carrot in front of him for

lack of a better

term and in chapter S she boldly

proclaims her identity and who she is

and takes advantage of that opportunity

that she's been given to share the plan

and even in that moment it's not without

risk understand what's happening there

she is saying hey you don't you don't

know this about me but I am a member of

this people group this uh Prejudice and

subjugated people group in this Empire

and we are all supposed to

die now if if things didn't go her way

okay now she's GNA die she would be also

put to death because of the order that

has been

placed but thankfully the king is

angered for her and hon hmon is the one

who cowers before her and he is the one

who meets destruction instead of

Esther so why does Esther's plan work

where Hon's plan

failed Esther's plan works for two

reasons her plan is rooted in humility

wisdom bravery and

self-sacrifice in short Esther

prioritizes the Deliverance of her

people over her own

safety she also has sought God's will

she is

intentional she's willing to offer up

her life and safety of her people safety

of safety of herself for her people but

she doesn't do it flippantly she's she

has sought God's Will and discerned his

plan for her

steps she's no longer the passive

listless Esther we find in chapter two

She's Not Just obeying everyone in order

to save herself she's taking actions

she's standing firm

and she's participating in God's

will where is the Lord calling you to

take action in your life right now where

is the Lord calling you to enter into

his

will see most of the time we wait around

expecting God to solve all our

problems and we miss the opportunities

that he's placed in front of us to enter

into his will and take action for his

kingdom for the advancement of his

kingdom like Esther we must take time to

intentionally discern where the Lord is

calling

us to action and to advance his kingdom

we must learn how to hear his voice and

even foro our own

interests for the good of God's

kingdom I want you to think about the

picture of Jesus in The Garden of

Gethsemane uh Jesus knew his hour had

come he knew it was time for him to go

to the Cross he knew he had been

betrayed but he took time he went to the

Garden of Gethsemane and he knelt before

the Lord and he prayed

he understood the gravity of the

situation remember how stressed he was

how much pain he was already

in how the gravity of the situation made

him sweat drops of

blood and think about what he said he

said father if there's any way for this

to happen any other way take this cup

from

me but then he said not your will but

not my will but yours be

done are you willing to pray that

prayer are you willing to forgo your own

interest your own will in order to

follow God's will will you follow in

Jesus footsteps because that's what he

calls us to do because one day like

Esther we will stand before a judgment

seat we'll stand before a

throne and on that judgment seat won't

be a human King but God will sit there

and all of humanity will be brought

before him in order to be judged how

will he look on you will he see someone

who has followed the wide path to

destruction will he see someone who has

worked for the detriment of his kingdom

on

Earth will he see someone who is

obsessed with their own recognition over

God's glory to those people God will say

depart from me I never knew you will

will he see someone who who is willing

to forsake their own Glory their own

safety their own

Comfort even their own life

potentially so that the kingdom of God

would grow here on Earth will he see

someone who has followed the narrow path

that leads to

righteousness to those God will say Well

done my good and faithful

servant will you follow

hmon or will you follow

Esther I want to close the sermon series

this sermon Ser is how we started it

with a discussion of the Providence of

God uh when I read Esther I'm reminded

of the hymn God Moves In A mysterious

way the the lyrics are printed in your

in your uh bulletin today and some of

them say God Moves In A mysterious way

his wonders to perform he plants his

footsteps in the sea and rides upon the

storm you fearful Saints fresh courage

take the clouds you so much dread are

big with mercy and shall break in

blessings on your

head his purposes will ripen fast

unfolding every hour the bud may have a

bitter taste but sweet will be the

flower blind unbelief is sure to Air and

scan his work in vain God is his own

interpreter and he will make it

plain we cannot begin to Fathom the

purposes

of God until he makes it plain for us to

see remember what Paul said in in Romans

11 that we opened this worship service

with God's ways are unknowable and

inscrutable see God will

often work beyond our comprehension and

what we can

see we cannot see how things are going

to play out unless he chooses to give us

a glimpse of what's going to happen and

sometimes this things that scare us the

most those clouds that hover over us

that are what we really need for our

blessing and our

sanctification in the Book of Esther

God's presence and his plan are not

immediately evident as we've mentioned

many times God is not even mentioned in

the Book of

Esther but he is still the most

important character and he's still the

hero of the

story think about this in light of our

discussion today after chapter 5 it

seems like because

Esther didn't act that Mori is going to

die before the next Feast even

happens but God keeps Xerxes a awake

that night and it just so happens that

he reads the record book that tells him

that morai was never rewarded for what

he did at the end of chapter

2 let's think about all of the

coincidence that coincides that have to

happen so that Esther's plan just so

happens to work

Xerxes gets drunk and he calls for vashi

and vashi refuses so Xerxes needs the

new Queen Esther justo happens to be

beautiful and finds favor with everyone

and she just happens to become that new

Queen morai just so happens to over

heere a plot to assassinate the

king he just so happens to tell Esther

and Esther chooses to share that

information and it just so happens that

Xerxes doesn't remember to reward morai

until just the right

moment Esther just so happens to find

favor with Xerxes when she enters his

court

Uninvited but she chooses not to share

her plan until just the right

moment it just so happens that Xerxes

can't sleep that night

so he reads the record book that says

that morai hadn't been rewarded it just

so happens in a turn of chance that hmon

is the one who decides the reward for

morai and he's the one who has to carry

it out so he doesn't have a chance to

murder morai before the

feast it just so happens that hmon gets

brought to the feast again and at in

that moment Esther shares the Peril that

she and her she she finds herself in

along with all her

people well it just so happens as Xerxes

leaves and

hmon throws himself at Esther's mercy

and that's the moment that Xerxes walks

back in and Xerxes uses that as an

excuse to kill

hmon and so it all kind of gets wrapped

up in a nice little bow for us hmon is

dead hung on this The Gallows that were

prepared for Mori and Esther gets to

cancel The Kill Order against all the

Jews in the empire in the end morai is

the one he gets to take Hon's uh riches

and his house and his status and he is

the one who's lifted up and honored in

Empire now you can believe that all of

those coincidences just happened to fall

in a place at the right time or you

could believe that God orchestrated

every single one of those events in his

perfect timing and in his perfect will

in order for his people to be delivered

from certain

death no matter how dark things seem God

is always on his throne and he is always

in

control I'm reminded of another time

that things things seemed very

Bleak Jesus uh had been betrayed

arrested

beaten whipped mocked and

scorned he was wrongfully

convicted sentenced to cruci

crucifiction he was so weak he couldn't

even carry his own cross to his place of

execution when they got there they laid

him down on that cross and they put

nails through his hands and his feet

they lifted him up just like hmon was

intending to lift up morai so that

everyone could see the so-called King of

Jews killed on a

cross the disciples had denied Jesus

gone into hiding were fearing for their

own

safety as Jesus died on that cross and

as they laid him in the Tomb all seemed

lost but three days later just like in

Esther that stone rolled away and Jesus

rose from the

dead just in the moment when all things

all things seemed lost God

God re-entered the picture Jesus rose

from the dead rose from the dead and in

doing so he became a living sacrifice

for the sins of all mankind because on

that cross he bore the weight of every

sin each and every one of us in this

room can be washed by the blood of that

sacrifice and cleansed by the blood of

the Lamb see as much as we may want to

follow in jesus' footsteps and let God's

will become our own we're going to fail

we're going to fall short there are

going to be days when the flesh wins out

because every day we experience a battle

between the Flesh and the spirit within

our own selves and there are days when

the flesh

wins but God's grace is still sufficient

in those

situations we can still choose the

narrow

path in our moments of weakness we can

receive Grace and it's not dependent on

our victories or our failure

our strengths or our weaknesses God's

grace is enough and it is sufficient for

you and for

me even when it all seemed lost God was

in control remember the truth of the

children's book the Moon is always

round even when we can't see all of it

the Moon is always round sometimes the

night is cloudy it's stormy can't see

the moon sometimes the city lights are

so bright that they seem to block it out

out sometimes there just doesn't seem to

be a moon up there at

all but the reality is the moon is

always round and God is always in

control he is and will always be exactly

who he has promised to be and he will

bring everything to fruition one day his

kingdom will

come there's one thing you remember from

this sermon let it be this when you're

standing at a fork in the road in your

life remember remember the words of

Psalm 119 your word is a lamp to my feet

and a light to my

path when we' have hidden God's word in

our hearts it will light our path

forward and will direct our

steps we'll be able to discern his voice

and know his will for our

lives today God is calling you down the

Narrow

Path it may be

Rocky it might be difficult to

climb but the destination is worth

it let's

father God we are so thankful that your

Sovereign hand governs the events of

this world we pray that you will

strengthen our faith in the moments

where we doubt your

presence Lord let us learn to recognize

your voice and remind us to

intentionally listen to the ways you

direct

us Lord help us look for the

opportunities you placed before us to

participate in your

will father create in us new hearts that

seek to put to death the Temptations of

flesh that we experience daily and

pursue

righteousness Lord we love you and thank

you for the gift of your

son father fill us daily with your

spirit in Jesus name we pray these

things
