Again, thank you so much for

sharing the pulpit, Pastor Nati. And uh

um and you know,

it's one of the most endearing titles

and relationships we can have with our

God is father. Right? The word father

just I mean because a father brings

life, a father brings um he gives, he

loves, um he sacrifices. There's so much

that uh that word entails. Now, of

course, we as humans, we have imperfect

fathers like me and faulty fathers.

That's okay under God's grace. Uh he

will redeem that as he always does. Um

but he's the perfect father. So, it it

is it's so endearing because it's a

relationship that we have with our God.

And I want to look at at at that

relationship a little bit and hopefully

we will have some

um encouragement.

Um our father is not just creator and

ruler but he um he as well as the

trinity um there's so much giving

amongst the trinity relationship in and

of itself right

um John reminds us in first John that um

let us love one another he says for love

is from God and whoever loves has been

born of God and knows God and anyone who

does not love does not know God because

God is love. And of course, there's

always been an eternal relationship with

the God the Father, God the Son, God the

Holy Spirit, relationship of love and

giving uh to each other. The Father

loves the Son and the Holy Spirit,

right? And the Son gives honor to the

Father. Um and the Holy Spirit gives

honor to Christ and the Father. And the

Holy Spirit gives us life. He's the

Lord, right? He's the Lord and giver of

life as one of our confessions say which

I love that you know so all the members

of the trinity are constantly loving and

that means giving to one another in a

constant fashion and and so this reminds

me of how uh the

word lavish comes to mind and so you

don't have to turn there but if you want

to uh in it reminds me of the first

chapter of Ephesians

um and instead of just reading it as um

these are these are all the specific uh

gifts of God. Uh just look at it that

way. Uh all the benefits that we gain

from knowing our heavenly father, right?

So just listen a little bit um on what

God gives us from first um sorry

Ephesians chapter 1 the first 14 verses.

Again you can turn there if you want but

just listen. Paul, an apostle of Christ

Jesus by the will of God to the saints

who are in Ephesus and are faithful in

Christ Jesus. Grace to you and peace

from God our father. That's a gift. God

gives us grace and peace, right? Through

Christ. Um, blessed be the God and

father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has

blessed us in Christ with every

spiritual blessing. Another gift, every

spiritual blessing in the heavenly

places, even as he chose us in him. And

yes, being chosen is a gift. We won't go

into all the theological background, but

being chosen is a gift. Um, uh, because

he chose us in him before the foundation

of the world that we should be holy and

blameless before him. In love, he

predestined us for adoption. Adoption is

an incredible gift from God, isn't it?

To be adopted into God's family. What a

a great privilege um through Jesus

Christ according to the purpose of his

will to the praise of his glorious grace

with which he has blessed us in the

beloved. Again, more gifts of blessing.

In him we have redemption. What an

incredible gift that is from God.

Redemption. He redeems us through his

blood. The forgiveness of our

trespasses. Another incredible gift from

God. Right? We can have our sins uh

forgiven according to the riches of his

grace which he lavished upon us. God

doesn't just give us grace, he lavishes

it. Lavish means to um abundantly give

abundantly overflow. Um it's it's just

amazing. In all wisdom and insight,

making known to us the mystery of his

will. Again, it's another gift. God

reveals the gospel to us. That's a gift.

Um, in him we have obtained an

inheritance, more

gifts, having been predestined according

to the purpose of him who works all

things according to the counsel of his

will. So that we who were first to hope

in Christ, another gift, that we are the

first to be able to hope in Christ might

be the praise to the praise of his

glory. In him, you also when you heard

the word of God, the gospel of your

salvation, the gift of salvation, it's

ours. it can never be taken away. Right?

And believed in him were sealed with the

promise of the Holy Spirit, the gift of

the fact that we have the Holy Spirit.

And the Holy Spirit has sealed our

salvation. Um, who is the guarantee of

our inheritance until we acquire

possession of it to the praise of his

glory. That that's an amazing several

verses, isn't it? I mean, just think of

all that. What what Paul is doing here,

he's reminding the Ephesians by writing

a letter to them. And the first thing he

talks about is all the benefits of

Christ, all the gifts that come from our

God, the

giver. And uh and these these gifts are

the heart uh coming from the heart of

our father. And he never stops giving it

to us. So hopefully this is a little bit

of an encouragement to you. And uh

encouragement is we're going to be

looking at in the passage in Joshua. We

just now look at the three kind of

general areas of how God encourages us.

Um but encouragement is a tough thing.

Um we live lives and life can be very

discouraging. Um, as we read in some of

the scriptures, life is is hard and

there's lots of things that weigh us

down from the world, from Satan, from

our own sins, and we easily get

discouraged, don't we? I do. Um, and

it's a hard thing. Sometimes we look for

encouragement from all quarters of life,

from the world, from our circumstances,

from our society, um from many places

and especially from other people, right?

We look for encouragement from them in

this in the form of we want to be

approved by others. We're looking for

approval. Um and that's that's kind of

hard sometimes. approval from our

parents, approval from our children,

approval from our co-workers, our

bosses, uh approval from our pastor and

our church members and one another. Um

and it's and it's uh it's tough.

Um you know that you I'm sure you

experience this. You know, you can hear

from nine different people who are

nothing but encouraging to you and words

of encouragement. But the 10th person

has one criticism and our our human

tendency is to hold on to that one

criticism instead of holding on to the

nine positive statements, you know, um

because that's how easily we get

discouraged. So we can easily get

discouraged in our walk with the Lord,

can't we?

um even when we have the Lord, even when

we have all these incredible gifts that

Paul has enumerated, we can still be um

discouraged. So today, I just want to uh

help us look at this passage and um

again, God is our best God is the best

encourager. Uh he knows us better than

ourselves, doesn't he? He knows what we

needs. And um he of course ultimately is

the best encourager because he gives

himself. So let us um turn to Joshua

chapter 1 and uh I'd like to read verses

1-9. I'm not sure what your uh your

convention is here, but is it possible

to stand for the reading of God's word?

If you are able, please stand. Turn to

Joshua chapter 1 and we'll look at the

first nine verses.

This is the word of God. After the death

of Moses, the servant of the Lord, the

Lord said to Joshua, the son of Nun,

Moses' assistant, Moses, my servant, is

dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this

Jordan, you and all this people, into

the land that I am giving to them, to

the people of Israel. Every place that

the sole of your foot will tread upon, I

have given to you just as I promised to

Moses. From the wilderness and this

Lebanon as far as the great river, the

river Euphrates, all the land of the

Hittites to the great sea toward the

going down of the sun shall be your

territory. No man shall be able to stand

before you all the days of your life.

Just as I was with Moses, so I will be

with you. I will not leave you or

forsake you. Be strong and courageous,

for you

excuse me, shall cause this people to

inherit the land that I swore to their

fathers to give them. Only be strong and

very courageous, being careful to do

according to all the law that Moses, my

servant, commanded you. Do not turn from

it to the right hand or to the left,

that you may have good success wherever

you go. This book of the law shall not

depart from your mouth, but you shall

meditate on it day and night, so that

you might be careful to do according to

all that is written in it. For then you

will make your way prosperous, and then

you will have good success. Have I not

commanded you? Be strong and courageous.

Do not be

afraid, and do not be dismayed, for the

Lord your God is with you wherever you

go. This is the word of the Lord.

Please be seated. Let's

pray. Lord, we uh come to you this

afternoon just in uh humility and and

joy, Lord, that we can come together and

uh worship you and bring you honor and

be with God's people. Thank you for your

inherit, infallible, inspired word,

Lord, which is our life.

Um this book is about you from you and

that's why it is perfect. And Lord just

um we ask that your word be moving in

our hearts, minds, and souls that we

would be changed, transformed uh into

the likeness of your son more and more.

May the words of my mouth and may the

meditation of all our hearts be pleasing

and acceptable in your sight, oh Lord

our God and our redeemer in Jesus name.

Amen.

So the context really quickly is that

the uh Israelites have been wandering

the desert now for 40 years. Uh as

you'll recall, Joshua and Caleb are the

only ones who survived the original

generation 40 years ago because they

were obedient and they had a good report

about the land. Um and so

um Moses has led them for 40 years and

now he's dead. The Israelites sit on the

east bank of the Jordan River, ready to

cross over to take the land of Israel.

Um, however, they face nothing but

unknowns, unknown hazards, dangers. They

don't know what's going to happen.

They've never been here. They've been in

Egypt for 400 years. Um, so think of it.

You're in a new land, a foreign land.

You've never seen this place before. You

don't know what's ahead of you. Um, it's

kind of fearful. Have you ever been in

that situation? I remember uh since I

grew up in LA, you know, I lived there

for till I was 30 and then I was

promoted in my job to a company

headquarters in New Jersey. So I had to

move from LA to New Jersey and u some

people in America laugh at that because

I moved to New Jersey, but anyway

um but it's kind of intimidating because

I don't know

anybody, right? I have to go find a

church. You know, it's intimidating

walking into a church you don't know

anybody and trying to, you know, find a

new life and trying to find a new

community. Um, and that's that's nothing

compared to what the Israelites are

facing, taking over an entire land um

and uh trying to settle your family in

the midst of all that. Anyway, it's um

it's tough. And in the middle of these

verses, as you as you saw, the Lord says

to be strong and courageous to the

Israelites. And he says it three times

and it's a command. Um and so

uh it's easy to see the response of the

people uh because um yes, since it's

God's words, yes, on the outside, yes,

Lord, we're we'll be strong and

courageous, but I can easily see for me

if I was there. On the inside, I'm like,

I'm scared. I don't know what's going

on. Um, and so,

um, it's it's difficult. And the good

thing is the Lord even knows our fears

and our

anxieties. And so, he wants to encourage

us along the way. Not just command us,

but encourage us. Isn't that just

amazing for our giving, loving father?

He He knows our frame. He knows our

weakness. So, he carries us along. He

doesn't just command it. He actually

carries us along so that um we can

actually experience this.

So God gives encouragement on in three

ways. Let's look at three ways from this

passage. God gives encouragement through

his word. He gives encouragement through

his promises and he gives encouragement

through his presence. His word, his

promises, his presence. Right? So, first

his word, God's word tells us who he is.

In verse eight, he says, "This book of

the law shall not depart from your

mouth, and you shall meditate on it day

and night." Now, there's a lot here

already. I won't go into all the uh the

implications, but

uh at minimum, you can see a little bit

here about the word. the word of God is

obviously he's also talking about the

fact that it's it's it's not just

central for their life but it is vitally

important. I think that's one of the way

one of the things you can infer when he

says you shall meditate on it day and

night. Um you could take that literally

and say wow that means I got to be

reading the Bible 24 hours a day. Well

that's not exactly. I mean we should

definitely have it in our lives. The

word of God of course should saturate

our life and we should be meditating and

memorizing it and chewing over and

thinking about and praying about it.

Absolutely. Don't get me wrong on that.

That we that's what we believe. That's

what your churches believe, right? The

centrality of the word of God. But it

also shows when you meditate on day and

night meaning this is very important for

you. This is these are not just simple

words on a page. This is not just

another book, right?

Um so

um it shouldn't depart from your mouth.

It it's always with us. The word is such

that so saturated in our lives that it

is literally a part of us. So that we

are thinking, speaking, our attitude,

everything exhibits the fruit of knowing

God's word. Um and of course again like

in our denomination the PCA we we

believe in the inherency infallibility

and the inspiration of scripture and

that they are the very words of God

itself. So um meditating on it day and

night is not a worldly kind of

meditation but it's more of uh focusing

ourselves on God's word which eventually

really means that we're focusing on the

person of God himself. uh not only does

he want us to know him, but he wants us

to love him. So that's one of the

reasons for the word of God. Of course,

there's many many reasons for the word

of God, but some of the obvious things

are uh it's so that we might know

God, right? We're don't we don't

memorize scripture so that we can pass

some test or uh seem knowledgeable or uh

whatever, win an argument with people.

We want to know the word of God because

we want to know God himself.

Um God, our God is a relational God.

It's not just facts about God. He wants

us to have a relationship with him. So

he gives us his word. He reveals himself

to us. What another gift, another gift

from our heavenly father. He reveals

himself to us and he wants to reveal

himself to us. um who wants to be in

relationship uh and and he's the one

initiating this. Uh it's amazing that

you just think about this. God is

amazing uh for toward us. Um and he he

the Lord communicates with us and it's

primarily through his word. It's like

two people dating, right? Getting to

know each other in the beginning. Um,

I'm old so in my day, you know, two

people are dating. We're like on the

phone all the time. And I remember my

parents were like, "What do you talk

about for hours and hours on end and on

end, you know?" And nowadays, it's not

the phone. Now it's texting, right?

You're just probably texting endlessly,

right? So, um, and when I dated Nancy,

it was kind of like that, you know,

because when you're dating, you want to

spend as much time with someone. Why?

Because you want to get to know them.

It's very I know this is very simple but

it's like let's translate that to the

Lord, right? Um you want to get to know

them and doesn't matter how small the

detail is about their life, you want to

know that too, right? Because you love

them. If you love him, you want to know

everything about them. So same thing

with the Lord, right? Um the Lord is a

our God is a relational God. He wants to

know us and he wants us to know him. And

so we need to be saturated through and

through with the word of God so that

we're meditating so much on him that we

know him and so we know how to love him.

We know how to uh please him and enjoy

him as right as well. Right? We believe

the first answer to the first catechism

question is you know what is the chief

end of man to glorify God

and enjoy him forever. We kind of forget

that sometimes as church people want to

enjoy the

Lord. In fact, um we often describe,

don't we, when we talk to people who

don't know about Christianity, I'm

talking about biblical Christianity.

What is Christianity? It's not a

religion in the worldly sense of the

word, right? Well, it's not a system of

of rights and wrongs, system of of how

to do things. That's not biblical

Christianity at its core. Certainly, we

have structures. Yes, we have laws and

rules. Yes, we have commandments. That's

that's true. But that's not at the core

the foundation of it. The core

foundation of is that it is a

relationship with God

Almighty with no other religion in the

world has that. That's what makes

Christianity unique, right? Building

relationship. In fact, Michael Reeves,

some of you know him. He's a author in

England, a great author. I recommend his

books to you. is he's got a book called

Delighting in the Trinity. He says this,

"Christianity is not primarily about

lifestyle change." See, that's just

behavior modification. That's that's

that's the worldly religion, right? Do

good, be good, look good. That's that's

that's what the world says. That's not

Christianity. So, Christianity is not

primarily about lifestyle change. It's

about knowing

God. To know and grow, to enjoy him is

what we are saved for.

That's biblical Christianity. It's about

a relationship with God. And he dames to

come down, condescends, and he initiates

that and gives us his word so that we

can know him and enjoy him and have a

relationship. Do you have such a

relationship with the Lord God

Almighty? So, it's given to us

graciously. Um, again, we're imperfect,

of course. Um, but God takes that into

account, too, and helps us, right? Um,

he gives us leaders and pastors and

mentors and disciplers to help walk

alongside us so that we can get to know

him

together, make our mistakes together,

experience grace together, right? And

and love uh love the Lord together.

The other thing that's a little minor uh

uh point here is is that the Lord also

uh communicates to us what he expects in

the relationship. You know, if you're

working or going to school or you take a

class and you don't know what's expected

of you, that's got to be the most

frustrating things in the world, right?

If I'm working for a company and they

don't tell me what they expect from me,

how am I supposed to do work? It does it

doesn't make any sense. They give you we

give each other's expectations. We do a

project with someone, we we talk about

everybody's expectations so everybody

knows, you know, where they fit

relationally and functionally. Same

thing here. The Lord gives us um uh his

expectations. Verses seven and 8. Be

careful to do according to all the law

that Moses my servant commanded you. Do

not turn firm it to the right or to the

left that you may have good success

wherever you go. The book of the law

shall not depart from your mouth, but

you shall meditate on it day and night,

so that you may be careful to do

according to all that is written in it.

For then you will make your way

prosperous, and then you will have good

success. So the Lord not only wants a

relationship with us, he initiates that

relationship to us. He communicates to

us, he also communicates his

expectations, which is great, right? And

no, we don't work our way to heaven. We

don't work our way for salvation. That's

not what this is about. But this is

about if we have a relationship with

him, this is what the Lord expects,

right? And he has the right to expect

that because he is a holy God. Amen. Um,

so it's not just simply words on a page.

Like I said earlier, uh, Moses reminds

us at the end of Deuteronomy telling the

Israelites to take heart uh, all the

words by which I am warning you today.

He says in Deuteronomy 32, that you may

command them to your children that they

may be careful to do all the words of

this law. for it is no empty word for

you but your very life. The word of God

is our very life because it represents

God himself and what God expects. Um and

of course

again he he gives us these expectations

but he also sends us his son God the son

who is the living embodiment of the word

to do what? to help us to live in such a

way to please him. What a thoughtful,

loving father, isn't he? He doesn't just

command it. He provides uh a way for us

to do it. He gives us examples. Of

course, Christ is the living word.

That's one of his names to do that. So

again, our God is an amazing God. Our

father uh is such an amazing loving

father. Okay, what about um the second

point? God gives encouragement through

his promises. One way that you could

summarize the entire book of Joshua is

promises kept, right? Because in the

first five book of Moses, it's all the

promises are made, right? The people

will inherit the land, the people will

have this, they will have that. Uh and

now in Joshua, it is starting to come

through true. God is fulfilling his

promises. the promises that were made to

Abraham, to the patriarchs, to Moses

himself, right? He says in verse three,

"Every place that the soul of your foot

will tread upon, I have given to you

just as I promised to

Moses." The promises of course are he's

referring to mostly related to the land.

Um in Genesis 12, the Lord appeared to

Abraham and said, "To your offspring, I

will give this land." in Genesis 15:18,

"To your offspring I give this land from

the river of Egypt to the great river um

that is the Nile all the way to the

river Euphrates to the north." Um uh and

the Lord of course repeats these same

promises to both Isaac and to Jacob and

the other patriarchs and to Moses

himself. Um and he reminds them in

Numbers a couple of times about the land

that they are to receive. Deuteronomy 1,

see, I have set the land before you. Go

in and take possession of it. that the

Lord swore to your fathers to Abraham,

to Isaac, and to Jacob to give them and

their offspring after them. And of

course, he gave promises to to Joshua as

well. Uh in verse 5, he says, "Just as I

was with Moses, I will be with

you." Um and of course, so much is

included in these promises. Now, the

Lord does not have to prove himself,

right? He keeps promises. So, he doesn't

have to prove himself. Um,

nevertheless, we can see his actions and

so can the Israelites in redemptive

history and they automatically attest to

the fact that God keeps his promises,

right? Um, for example, these last 40

years, the Israelites have been

traversing through the desert. They

didn't know where they were going. They

were literally wandering in the desert

wherever the Lord brought them. Um, and

so he's brought them through so much and

through it he has preserved them. He's

promised to preserve them. He fed them

with m what? Every day? Mana. Yeah,

that's Hebrew for what is it? By the

way, he fed them with mana every day. He

provided water miraculously many times.

Fought their battles for them. And he he

even did a miracle with their clothes.

Remember in Nehemiah,

Nehemiah recounts this. Uh Nehemiah 9,

you gave your good spirit to instruct

them and did not withhold your mana from

their mouth and gave them water for

their thirst. 40 years you sustained

them in the wilderness and they lacked

nothing. Their clothes did not wear out

and their feet did not swell. Imagine

wearing the same clothes you have on for

years. You know, it would stink,

but they lasted.

The people witnessed all this. They

lived through it. They saw God's

provision, uh, plentiful provision. He

kept his promises and all they had to do

was look back.

Um,

right. And,

um, the same thing with us. You know,

look back at your

life, think about God's general

provision, God's general generally

keeping his promises. Has he done that?

Yes. It's kind of like, you know, people

ask,

um, do you remember what you ate three

days ago for dinner? Nobody remembers.

You're going to have to sit here and go,

nobody reme or in this in case of

church, you know, it's kind of funny if

pastors ask that. So, do you remember

what last week's sermon was about?

That's a hard one. Sometimes we don't

remember. We don't remember what we ate

three days ago. But the other question

is more important. It's were you

fed? Yes. Were you fed with the word of

God? Yes. You were nourished by it. You

grew from it. You were changed by it.

God has kept his

promises. And of course, we're talking

about relationship, right? So

relationally, what does this do? It's

very simple, I know, but still this is

for our encouragement. So okay, so God

keeps his promises. Now what? Well, it's

a relationship, right? If I say

something uh to you and I promise to do

something or whatever and I do it, what

does that do for the

relationship? Builds

trust. If I don't do it, the opposite

happens. the relationship gets strained

and depending on what it is it could

even break the relationship you know and

even though we know this intuitively but

when you think about it trust is the

foundation of every single relationship

without trust no relationship and by the

way therefore you can't do anything

together you can't get anything done

together that is major implications and

that's all of human life right it's

everything's based on trust just look at

the basic things like a bank if I trust

the bank to keep my money keep it safe

and not not throw it away or waste it,

that's great. I trust I'll keep giving

the money. But if they take my money and

they steal it or they waste

it, that stops. The relationship stops.

No more commerce, no more trade, life

stops. That happens around the world all

the time. It happens here all the time.

Right? This is why corruption for

example is so destructive because it

destroys not only relationships but

stops everything you can do together

anyway. So building trust is is

important because trust is a precious

relational

quality that requires constant care,

thought, prayer. Um you can't have it.

And God knows of course our weaknesses.

He of course is always trustworthy, but

he walks alongside us and he gives us

brothers and sisters together so that we

can help each other walk in a way that

builds trust with the Lord and then we

by the way we can also do ministry

together, right? Uh we can bring the

gospel to those that don't know him yet.

Um and

so anyway, so God's grace through it

all. It may not be apparent at the

moment, but God in looking back on our

lives and our history with him. Always

trustworthy, always has been, always

provided. Maybe not to the exact degree

that you that you wanted, but he has

always provided. And he will always be

trustworthy in every way. All the uh

whether sweet or bitter providences,

everything that the Lord has for us, we

can trust him because that's the kind of

father that he is.

Um, and so the more we see that, the

more we can help each other out as well.

So God gives encouragement through his

word, through his promises, and finally

through his presence. Verses 5 and N.

forsake you. Do not be afraid. Do not be

dismayed, for the Lord your God is with

you wherever you go.

This is a little bit hard to describe

God's presence with us. And I just want

to make two observations. One is um what

does that mean? I mean, we can be with

someone, right, and not really be with

them,

right? I'll just use my example all the

time because then I can point me being

bad. So, I could be with my wife or I

can be with my children when we were

when they were growing up in our

household. I can be there

physically. All the wives are like and

all the ladies are like, "I know where

he's going with this." Um, the guys are

like, "What?" Um, sorry guys, don't

don't mean to, but it's like I could be

physically present with my kids, right?

But if I'm not paying attention to them

or I'm on my phone or I'm doing work,

it's actually worse. I'm not really with

them and they see that and it's like

we're we're supposed to have a

relationship, right? and we want to

build that relationship or you know my

wife will say you're not listening see

I'm hearing everything she says that's

not what she means yeah audibly I'm

hearing it but I'm not following her

heart with my heart I need to understand

my wife at a deeper level not there I

might be present physically but I'm not

really present right

wives he's not really listening

Anyway, so

um so what does it mean? It mean one of

the things it means is that it's not a

passive state. It's active. When God is

present with us, it's not

passive. He's actively doing things.

What is he actively doing? Well, he's

actively being a father to us. He's

actively loving us. He's actively caring

for us. He's actively um uh looking out

for us in every way and in every level.

Is that not right? Is that not true?

That's why we call him our father

because he gives uh he gives endlessly

and he gives

lavishly and our heavenly father has

promise to be with us all the

time. And him being with us

is something that's indescribable. So,

I'm going to go into something to try to

describe maybe if you will the the

importance of God's presence with us.

Um, all of us experience being lonely,

right? I'm an only child that has its

own loneliness factor to it. We all

experience no matter who we are, even in

this world where we have the most more

communication devices than ever in human

history. Yet, you know, like studies

say, in many countries, including

America, we're the loneliest people

around. So, everyone experiences

loneliness, but only one person has

ever truly experienced absolute

loneliness, and that's Jesus.

When Jesus hung on the

cross, he was suffering the wrath of God

for our sins, right?

Um, aside from just the physical pain

and suffering, there was a spiritual

anguish and suffering that we will never

know. That is those that call on the

name of Christ and are followers of

Christ. We have been saved from that

horror.

That is real hell, right? Spiritual

um suffering. And

um so here's a question. At what point

was it the most hellish for Jesus or the

worst experience ever? What was the

worst moment on the

cross? I would suggest it was when at

one point and Jesus even voiced it. Uh

he voiced his anguish at one point. What

did he

say? My God, my

God, why hast thou forsaken me?

So I would put forth for your

consideration that the worst

moment, the most hellish experience that

any human has ever

experienced is when God the Father

turned his back on God the Son because

he couldn't look upon the sin that was

on him and he abandoned the Son for that

moment. He removed his presence from God

the Son for that moment. And Jesus

experienced that and cried

out. First time in the history of the

Trinity between the Father, Son, and

Holy Spirit where there's perfect love,

perfect fellowship, perfect giving

amongst one another was disrupted for a

moment.

I would put forth that was the worst

moment is when God removed his

presence, God the Father removed his

presence from God the Son.

If that's the case, my brothers and

sisters, that rem God's removal of his

presence is the worst that anybody can

experience, then conversely, the

opposite of that has got to be the most

amazing, stupendous, phenomenal, aren't

any words for it thing in the universe,

which is that the presence of God that

is an intimate, close father, son,

father, daughter presence with us has

got to be indescribable. There are no

words for it.

Amen. Hallelujah. We should all be

standing up and be charismatic. Sorry.

No, not really.

But so if you name the name of Christ,

you follow Jesus, you are adopted as a

son and daughter into his

family, you have the presence of God

with you

intimately right

now. right

now. So that should be the most joyous

thing in the world. Are we enjoying God

right now in the moment? We can enjoy

God all of our life on this earth. And

nothing and nobody can take that away

nor diminish

it. I hope that's a little bit of

encouragement, right? Um so brothers and

sisters, enjoy God. Enjoy his presence.

It's an incredible privilege. It's an

incredible blessing. And he's he's given

us his word. And his words uh are true

because he fulfills them. He keeps his

promises. And there can't be anything

greater than keeping the promise that I

will be with you always. How as a

missionary of not a missionary myself,

but as working in the mission field, you

know, Matthew 28, great commission is

always on our minds and lips, right? How

does it go? Matthew 28, "Go therefore

and make disciples of all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teaching

them to observe all that I have

commanded you."

Right? And

behold, I am with you how

long?

Always to the end of the age.

My brothers and

sisters, the Lord God Almighty, God the

Father sent God the Son to live a

perfect life, to die an excruciating

death, so that we can have redemption,

so that we can have forgiveness. We can

go to heaven. But I would argue the best

thing is so that we can be with God and

he can be with us now and forever more.

his

presence with

us. God the Father, imagine this, wants

to be with

you. There's no greater gift than that,

is

there?

Nothing. That's how much God the Father

loves us and wants to give everything to

us, everything that is good.

So God gives us encouragement through

his word, through his promises, and

through his presence. And I'm just going

to end with

this. One last thought.

Um, is

that think of someone who is always an

encouragement in your

life? Don't you want to be with them

always?

Yes. That's the same with the Lord.

uh we want to be with him. And one of

the doctrines I can think of, it's kind

of weird. You think of doctrines like

one of the doctrines that I thought

about during this preparing the sermon

is the union of Christ. And it's like

what is that union with Christ? So what

you know well generally speaking just

just quickly when we are in a

relationship with the Lord and and we

are been justified by God now we live a

life where he is changing us into the

image of Christ more and more we have

union with Christ once we have been

justified we are in one that's what it

means to be in Jesus usually it's in

union with Christ and why is that

important because if we are united to

Christ that means that Everything that

Christ benefits from his from the

relationship with the trinity. Guess who

also benefits? We do. We benefit from

that. All the benefits of Christ, we get

to

experience. All right? So when God the

father loves the son, he also loves us.

When God the father um gives to the son,

he gives to us. When God the father

encourages the son, we also are

encouraged.

And does God the Father, Son, and Holy

Spirit, does that ever end? Does that

relationship ever end? It's

eternal.

So our encouragement from the Lord is

eternal. It's constant. Nothing can stop

it. Nothing can diminish it. So my

brothers and sisters, when you're down,

when you're stressed, when you're

anxious, when you're fearful, when

you're

depressed, turn to the Lord. Remember

who you are in Christ. Remember your

heavenly father loves you, is endlessly

lavishing his grace upon you

and wants to be with

you and wants to be present with you.

This is mind-blowing, isn't it? Every

moment of our day, the Lord is with us.

Let's pray.

Lord, uh it is overwhelming to just

think about this, to meditate upon this

more and more, but Lord, thank you for

the this incredible truths, the truths

you have given us. Um Lord, help our

disbelief sometimes or our dullness to

you. Uh Lord, instead uh enliven us with

your spirit. Lord, point us to Christ.

help us to know uh your love um and to

remember that you've kept all these

promises, to remember you've given us

all these gifts and you continue to

lavish us with these gifts. Um and Lord,

help our lives uh display this in front

of others, not in a prideful or showy

way, but may our your presence in our

life also show forth for others. And so

they can see there's something about us

and it's not us. It's because Jesus is

present in our life. The Holy Spirit is

present and it is obvious in the way we

live in in the way we do things in our

attitude in our speech. Everything in

our being is

Christlike. Uh Lord uh that is the best

witness we can be. Not just speaking the

gospel but also embodying the gospel. So

we pray by the Holy Spirit you continue

to do that and encourage us. We pray all

this on the merits of Jesus Christ

alone. Amen.

","":"
["GET
