Okay. Um,

hey everybody. It's it's good to see all

of you again. It's it re truly uh warms

my heart to to see all the brothers and

sisters here. Uh, yeah. We we miss you

guys. Um, okay.

Today we're going to be looking at

Joshua chapter 24. It's there on the

screen. So, if you have a Bible or a

phone, I would invite you to turn there

um at uh so we're for this for this ser

we're going to be looking at the

promised land that God gave the people

of Israel. All right. um at our church

in grace fellowship by way we we've been

going through a series called the big

picture of the Bible where we chose

eight stories from scripture to kind of

help us see what what because we believe

that that from Genesis to Revelation

this is one story about God redeeming

his people right so you know choosing

stories like the cre creation um Adam

and Eve falling into sin and and God's

covenant with Abraham and so this sermon

is from that series. Okay. Uh

it may be a long time ago. You guys went

through Genesis right at the beginning

of this year. I know it was a long time

ago, but but some of the things that

you'll hear today will you will have

heard from from earlier this year in

Genesis. If you don't remember, it's

fine. We'll get a little bit of review.

But I just want to say that first

because we cannot understand the

promised land unless we first understand

the promise to Abraham. Right? You

cannot understand the promised land in

Joshua unless you first understand the

promise that was made to Abraham in

Genesis. Okay, great. So, if you're

wondering why is he jumping around it

hopefully it'll all make sense. Um,

okay. So, I I have a friend uh he he

used to work on Wall Street in New York

City. He was a very successful

businessman, investment banker. He made

a lot of money. uh he he and his

co-workers, they decided to start a

foundation. It's like a nonprofit

foundation. Um and what and they wanted

to help prisoners. They wanted to help

convicts in prison.

So what they would do is they would they

would go into the prisons and and find

convicts who were interested in

business, were interested in starting

companies, like had had some skills, and

they would go in and teach these

prisoners how to do business the the

right way. Um they would go in, they

would say, "Hey, uh we see that you need

help. You're you're in prison. Um we

have resources. We can help you. we can

protect you. We can provide for you. Uh

and in response, we will you when you

get out, you will sign a contract and

you'll work with us. You you'll be with

us. We'll protect you. We'll give you

what you need and and you have to be

loyal to us and no one else. And it's a

really been an amazing setup for for all

involved. Okay?

In you know 3 4 thousand years ago in

the ancient near east they would do

something similar to this. So you'd have

like a big kingdom, a powerful kingdom,

um, and they would come to a small

kingdom and say, "Hey, we need you need

our help. We see that that you're

vulnerable. You you you don't have very

much. We have resources. We can protect

you. We can help you. Uh, and here's

what we will do to provide for you." And

in response, you need to stay loyal to

us. All right? Uh, and serve us. Okay?

This is what God has done with Israel.

If you remember back in Genesis,

this this is how God relates to us as

his people.

Uh he m he makes a promise. He makes a

covenant. Do do we remember the promise

that he made to Abraham in Genesis 12?

Again, that was a long time ago that you

looked at it, but God promised three

things to Abraham. Okay, you ready? He

promised to bless Abraham.

Secondly, he promised um to give him

offspring to give him children to make

to make yeah his offspring spread far.

Uh and he also promised him a home. He

promised him a land descendants blessing

and land. And it's amaz the the story of

scripture is amazing. If you look

through Genesis, Exodus, we see how God

fulfills his promise to his people. Like

if you look at all those lists that you

that you fly through in the Old

Testament, the list of names, that's

showing that God has fulfilled his

promise to his people. Those aren't

those aren't meaningless. That's like

God promised that he would he would

bless his people with children and

that's him doing it. Uh we we see a

multitude coming out of Egypt. So we see

descendants uh he blesses them. He he

saved them from Egypt. He brought them

out on wings like eagles. We see this

blessing. But but as the Israelites come

out of Egypt,

they lack a home. They don't they don't

have a land that's their own. So that's

what we're going to look at today. We're

going to look at we call it the home

that God has prepared for his people. Um

again, we're going to be looking at

Joshua 24.

This is in your Bibles, you may see it's

called a covenant renewal. That may

sound like a big word, but what what

this is is the covenant that we were

just talking about where a bigger

kingdom comes to a smaller kingdom. A

after some time had passed, after they

made that deal, the older party or the

the the bigger stronger party, God would

come back and renew the covenant. And in

in this renewal, they would do two

things. First, they would remind the

people, hey, we have we have stayed true

to our word 100%. We have done

everything that we said we would do.

That's the first thing they do. And the

second thing is they would then call on

on on the lesser party say, "We've we've

we've done everything for you. Now now

respond to us by serving us and being

loyal to us." This is what Joshua does

in in in chapter 24. And so these are

going to be our two points for today.

Hopefully easy. One, what God has done

for the people of Israel. And then two,

what does Joshua call? How does he call

the Israelites to respond? So, what God

has done and their response. Um,

again, please open uh your phone. I

think most people here just have have it

on your phone. That's great. To Joshua

24. We're going to be looking all over,

but for now, um, we're just going to

read verses 11-14, which talks

specifically about the land. So, um, and

I'm going to invite Rachel, thank you,

Rachel, to read, um, Joshua 24 11-14.

And you went over the Jordan and came to

Jericho. And the leaders of Jericho

fought against you. And also the

Amorites, the peasant Perizzites, the

Canaanites, the Hittites, the Gegosites,

the Hivites, and the Jebusites. And I

gave them into your hand. And I sent the

hornet before you, which drove them out

before you, the two kings of the

Amorites. It was not by your sword or by

your bow. I gave you the land on which

you had not labored and cities that you

had not built and you dwell in them. You

eat the fruit of vineyards and olive

orchards and you did not that you did

not plant.

Great. Thank you, Rachel. Um let's pray

together one more time.

our our father in heaven. Uh we we thank

you Lord for this time right now, this

time that you've appointed for your

people to come together before you to

hear you speak to us through your living

and active word.

Lord, um please do your work right now

through the power of your Holy Spirit

that comes in and miraculously changes

our hearts to see you more clearly and

who you are and what you've done for us.

And Lord, help us to respond by the

power of your spirit, by your grace, um

in a manner that that is that is um

yeah, in line with all you have done for

us, Lord. Thank you for your grace.

Please meet us in this time as you

promised to do in Jesus name. Amen.

Okay. Uh Joshua here. He's about to die.

All right. Um in Joshua 24, he and all

the Israelites, they've seen how God

brought them into the promised land that

he the land he had promised.

He wants to call everybody together

right before he dies. Verse one in

chapter 24, Joshua gathers all the

tribes of Israel to Sheckchham and

summon the elders, the heads, the

judges, and the officers of Israel, and

they presented themselves before God.

So, like we said, in this covenant

renewal ceremony, I know it's a big

word. It just means they're going to

bring them together and show everything

that God's done and call them to obey.

Um, he's going to look back at Israel's

history. It's it's amazing. I know a lot

of you all have heard the history of

Israel, but like, let's hear it fresh

again. It's it's amazing. Um, and then

he's going to call the Israelites to

respond. Um, have you ever been on in a

in a class? I know everybody's been in a

class before, but maybe on a sports team

or class when oftentimes when when the

team or the class is is struggling, the

teacher or the coach will gather the

team together and and what they'll do is

they'll look back on on all they've been

through, how how the teacher or the

coach, whatever, the parent sometimes,

all that they've done to to help the

team or the class get through. and it

will it will lift really lift their

spirits. I my the best teacher I've had

was Miss Mston Ball High in in fifth

grade. Um I that school year was hard

for me. History and math were difficult

and I and I would get nervous before

tests. I sat near Miss Moms's desk and I

remember she would come to me sometimes

when I when she knew I was nervous and

she would she would she would do

something like this. She'd say, "Hey

babe, like you remember all like all

we've been through? remember how I've

I've sacrificed to teach you. Remember

how like we're going to get through

this. Like you got it. It's good. Uh I

think Thai people understand this well

with with teachers, elders,

and like you look at what people have

done for you in it in a very healthy

way. It makes you want to respond and it

li lifts your spirits. Um this is what

Joshua is doing in in chapter 24 here.

He's showing the Israelites that God has

taken care of them. That God has

graciously taken care of them. So what

what's God done? Verse 2 and three, it

says, "Long ago your fathers lived

beyond the Euphrates, Terara, the father

of Abraham and Nahor, and they serve

other gods. Then I took your father

Abraham from beyond the river and led

them through led them through all the

land of Canaan and made his offspring

many." Brothers and sisters, th this

this is grace. Abraham was hopeless. In

fact, the whole world was hopeless. All

right? In where Abraham was, they they

they

offered sacrifices and and worshiped a

lot of gods. One of those gods was the

the they worshiped the moon. So, they'd

build they'd build altars to the moon.

And the moon was supposed to to make it

rain or or give them children. Abraham

and Sarah, they're old. They're

childless. The moon hasn't been working

for them. They were hopeless.

And this is the couple that God chooses.

This elderly, childless couple through

which to bless the world.

They were hopeless. It it's like my

friend's foundation that goes into

prisons, he said when the first time

when they meet these guys, they they're

they have Yeah. There there's not a hope

of left not a bit of hope left in them.

They're just they're just in prison like

I I don't know what I'm going to do the

rest of my life. This is this is when

God comes in when we're hopeless. He

comes in with a promise w with with with

with with a promise he's going to take

care of us. Again, Genesis 12, God

promises land, people, and blessing to

Abraham. He promised to make his

descendants many, to give them a land uh

and to bless them. Okay, look further.

What happens next? Look at verses three

and four with me. He starts to list off

Abraham's descendants. Isaac, Jacob,

Esau. He says, "I made your offspring

many." Again, like I said before, when

you read these lists of names, realize

it's not just a list of names. This is

this is God saying, "I have been

faithful. I've been faithful to what I

promise to you." Um,

yeah, I've been faithful to this

elderly, childless couple. And here they

are. God has been fulfilling his

promise.

Keep going. Verse four. Jacob and his

children went down to Egypt. Okay. All

right. I I know that you've you probably

heard the story of Israel before,

but I if you can just act like you're

hearing it for the first time. If you're

hearing this story for the first time,

you're thinking, "Why are we going to

Egypt, guys? God said he was going to

give us children, bless us, and and take

us to the promised land. Why are we

going to Egypt?" Um I thought we were

going to the promised land. Okay, in

just a minute we're going to see what

happens. But for now, I want to point

out that the story of Israel, the story

of God's people, it's not this I'm gonna

draw it in y'all's direction. It's not

this graph that just like goes straight

up. That the story of Israel is not like

that. It's a graph that like they start

to go up and then they go down and then

there's probably some sideways. It's

it's the graph of the of the of the

history of the people of Israel is

crazy. And for your life and for my

life, is it not the same? Your life and

my life, our life is not this just this

graph that just continues like we just

keep going up. That's not true. That's

not real life. And so, yeah, some days

we see a lot of progress and then the

next day like, am I even a Christian

anymore? I I can't believe I sinned

again. Um, the story of the people of

God, it's this exciting. It's a

suspenseful

um drama just like your life. It's it's

you think about your life. Your life

story is beautiful. At times it's

heartbreaking. It's this redemptive

story that God has written for you. So

as you look at the history of Israel,

see yourself in this. All right? That's

why it's here for us. It's it's it's

here for us to to be an encouragement to

us. Um even when the graph doesn't go

like you think it's going to go. Okay.

verses 4-7. J Joshua 24. Come back to

scripture. The Israelites, they go down

to Egypt. I sent Moses and Aaron. I

plagued Egypt with what I did in the

midst of it. And afterward, I brought

you out. Do you see the trend here? The

trend is the people of God find

themselves in hopeless situations like

an elderly childless couple in or in

slavery in Egypt. And once again, God is

true to his promise. They're help

hopeless. They cry out to God and God

saves them. God brings this intense

display of plagues on Egypt in order to

show Israel that I'm going to bless you

just like I promised. It's like I know

there are some parents in here. It's

like if someone's bullying your son or

your daughter, what are you going to do?

You're going to come in and you're going

to save them. That it's that heart that

God has for his people. God comes in and

he said that's why that's the whole

point of the plagues is to say this this

is my people and you will let them go so

that may God they may come and be with

me that God the the dad will take care

of his child. So, at this point in the

story, we've seen God fulfilling his

promise to Abraham. We've seen

descendants again, Pharaoh's like the

the Israelite women, they they have so

many babies. We can't stop them. Again,

when you see that, you have to think God

is fulfilling his promise. The the

Israelite women, they have a lot of

babies. Uh blessing. We see the Lord

bringing bringing is Israel out of Egypt

a wings like eagles. But what's the

third part of the promise? the land. The

Israelites kept come out of Egypt, but

they don't have a home.

So, moving down, we're gonna skip skip a

little bit of the the the middle of uh

Joshua 24. In verses 11 through13, he

recounts to them how the Lord has

fulfilled his promise to give them a

home, a place. I'll I'll read this

again. And you went over the Jordan and

came to Jericho. And the leaders of

Jericho fought against you. and also the

Amorites, the Perizzites, the

gave them into your hand, and I sent the

your bow. I gave you a land on which you

had not labored, in cities that you had

not built, and you dwell on them. You

orchards that you did not plant.

Brothers and sisters, again, God is true

to his word. Your God, my God, will do

exactly exactly as he has promised. Um

Joshua 23:14, I love this verse. Not one

word has failed. Of all the good things

that the Lord your God promised

concerning you, all of them have come to

pass for you. Not one of them has

failed.

A as we come to this point in the land.

All right. Um you probably asked this

question or maybe you've thought about

it in your head thinking, okay, who are

the Canaanites? Who are the Hivites? Who

are the Jebisites? Who who are these

people that Israel fought to get in the

land? Why did so many people have to

die? Um that doesn't seem very fair. Why

would God do that? Uh this is a big

question that we don't I don't we don't

have time to get into all of it today.

Um put simply, these people were enemies

of God. They they didn't acknowledge God

as the creator and owner of everything.

And then they refused to worship the God

of this universe. And even when they

were given the chance to surrender, do

you remember Rahab? Ra Rahab was in the

land. But what but she she she

surrendered to them and she didn't die.

that the the um the Gideonites in

chapter nine, same thing. But but these

people that the other folks, they did

not surrender. And so the Lord had to

bring judgment on them. I I realize this

is not an easy topic. There's been a lot

of books written about it. If you would

like to discuss this further, um I'm

happy to talk with you after the sermon.

Um or maybe I'll just send you to a

natan chan. No. Okay. Uh great. Okay. So

there there's a lot of things that we

could say about the promised land. All

right, I'm going to say two things or

answer two questions. One, how did the

people of Israel get the promised land?

Uh how did they get the land is the

first thing? And the second thing, what

was the land for? What was the purpose

of the land? How'd they get the land?

Look at verse 12 um in your Bibles. It

was not by your sword or by your bow. I

gave you a land on which you had not

labored.

Um, God works in ways

where his people are saved and he alone

gets the glory.

God works in ways where his people are

saved and he alone gets the glory. You,

you and I, we're not saved because

you're strong or smart or capable.

You're saved because God looks down and

has mercy on you and fights for you.

This is what he did with the people of

Israel.

One example, there's there's if you want

to read all about it, it's in it's all

in Joshua. One example is Jericho. Okay,

again, you're like, I've heard this

story, but but let's think about it

again. Jericho,

uh it's a really crazy story. So

Joshua's like got pumped up from from

from the beginning of Joshua, like be

strong and courageous going and get the

land. He's like, "All right, what are we

doing with Jericho, God? Like what's

what's the what's the game plan?" And

Joshua is probably like, we're going to

do like, you know, we're going to sneak

attack at night maybe or what about we

we get bows and arrows and kind of shoot

them from from a long way away. Um, but

what what God says it's it's it's crazy.

It is crazy what God says that they're

going to march around the city in broad

daylight for seven days and then no no

no swords, no bows and arrows. They're

just going to blow the trumpet and the

walls are going to fall down. Again, if

if you're Joshua, you're like, that's a

terrible plan. That's awful. Um, but

again, this was God's way of defeating

Israel's enemies.

And he did it he did it. It It's

amazing. He does it in a way that

everyone in Israel and the people around

are like, "Israel didn't save

themselves." Like, "That was God." Like,

do you remember what what what Rahab

says? Uh he said, she's like, "We're

we're terrified. Not because of you, but

because we saw what your God did to the

Egyptians. God works in ways where we're

saved and he alone gets the glory."

Okay?

Think about your own life. All right?

Um, not not all the time, but many many

times

there,

we see this happen with with a

relationship that gets healed by God's

grace. You see it happen at work when

you're struggling with something. You

see it I we see it with sin in our own

lives with with lust or pride or or

gossiping.

Sometimes we look back and we say when

when a relationship is healed when when

when we're able to overcome a sin and we

say like I don't know how that happened.

Like God God just did that. Like I I

feel like I had to work for that. And

and believe me, we need to fight. We're

called to fight against sin. But there's

so so many times we're like God is just

he's just gracious, isn't he? He is so

gracious to us. Um

man, so how did the Israelites get the

land? It was all of grace. the Lord

fought for them. Secondly, what was the

purpose? The purpose of the land of

Israel. Um, that's easy. It was a home

for them. The Israelites needed a home.

Okay, home is a big thing. You you all

of you know in a city like Bangkok, not

not many of us are from Bangkok. We're

all longing for home.

I like talking with people at the market

with pock like people that are selling

stuff at the market or taxi drivers just

to hear about their story. And I mean

the conversation is so similar with all

the with with most people. It goes like

this. I'll say, "Hey P, are you are you

from Bangkok? Are you from another

province?" Most of them are from other

provinces just like I'm not from here.

Um and and they're like, "No, I I'm not

from Bangkok. I'm from Isan." A lot of

Kissan. Um, I'm just I'm just came here

to Tamahakin. I came here to to make a

living. And I and I love I love I didn't

know this at first, but I love asking

them, "Do you like Bangkok?" And I don't

think I've ever had someone tell me they

like Bangkok. Just like my job, my my

highlight like, "No, I don't like

Bangkok." Everyone responds. It's kind

of funny at first like, "Yeah, no one

likes." But then they'll say like, "I'm

just I'm just here. My daughter, she's

she's a freshman in college and then

when she when she finishes, I'm going

back to Mahas Salakam to to to farm.

That's what I'm gonna do. I'm going

home. That's what I'm gonna what's what

I'm going to go do. We all want to go

home.

But then the question is, where is home?

Is is home a plot of land or a house,

your condo? Um, okay. the Isan farmers

rye of land in Mahas Salakam that's very

important very important and and the the

the land of Canaan Israel that that's

that was very important that was a place

that God allotted for them where they

could be stable and worship Yahweh as

the one true God and be in relationship

with him but then the question is well

is the land of Israel a perfect place

again that question hits really hard

right now no it's Not it's not a perfect

place. We all know it's not there. There

has to be something more than physical

land. I'm not saying it wasn't

important. It was. But there has to be

something more. God, he brought the

people of Israel into the promised land.

Why? So they could be with him.

That was the reason. So that that the

people of Israel could be with God.

That's the point of land. And actually,

this is one of the main points of the

whole Bible. All right? It's God with

his children. God with his people. Do Do

you see this? What was Eden for? The

Garden of Eden. God with his people.

What was what was the land the promised

land? Why did he rescue them from Egypt?

So, so they could go out and be with

their God, the promised land. What about

the temp? Do you remember after Solomon

finishes the temple, that prayer he

prayed? God, come and dwell here. It's

God was. And then we get to Jesus and we

see Jesus. He comes to be with us. And

think all the way to Revelation. Th this

is the storyline of all of scripture

that God comes to be with his people.

Um we're going to look at at this more

in a minute. Uh but for now, we need to

move to the final section. Um the second

section. And so after after Joshua's

just done this grand display of what God

has done for his people, he then calls

on them to respond. Okay. Um look at

verse 14.

In verse 14, uh Joshua says, "Now

therefore, fear the Lord and serve him

in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put

away the gods that your fathers serve

beyond the river and in Egypt and serve

the Lord." In this, we're not going to

read all of it, but in this bottom

section of Joshua 24, actually five

times,

he talks about he's telling Israel,

"Turn away from other gods and serve the

Lord your God." Turn away from the gods

of your fathers and serve the Lord. And

if the Israelites didn't do this, what

would happen? They'd be kicked out of

the land, similar to how Adam and Eve

were kicked out of the garden. the it's

so important for us to see these

connections in scripture with the people

of God. Um,

one thing I want us to see here is that

God is not just concerned with Israel's

outward obedience, their actions. All

right? Um, God's concerned first with

their hearts. You see this over and over

again that that he's pointing to our

hearts. God knows God's heart creator.

He knows that our hearts are prone to

love and worship other gods. Um, and

this will lead them to turn away from

the Lord. Do you see it's it's the thing

that your heart loves that will drive

your actions. Whatever your heart loves,

that that's what will that's what will

drive you. And this is why in verse 23,

I'm sorry, I don't we don't have it up

here, but in chapter 24 23, Joshua says,

"Incline your heart to the Lord."

Incline your heart to the Lord, the God

of Israel.

Um, brothers and sisters, the the people

of Israel's hearts, they were drawn to

other gods over and over and over again.

Again,

Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings. Do you

remember the history? It's this this

like you hear you see this cycle until

you're just sick of it of of God saves

them and then and then they go and serve

other gods and then they get in trouble

and then they call out and then God

saves them and then they go to and serve

other gods and it's this cycle all

throughout the Old Testament.

Um and in the end that Israel was kicked

out of the land because they had

forsaken the one true God. I I want to

note here God's patience. Do do you know

how much time passed in between

Joshua when they got the land and and

you know Israel went first and then

Judah time of exile. It's about a

thousand years.

See a thousand years that God's like

guys I'm going to say you know it it

God's patience is re really should be

noted here. Um,

it's even though it's been 3,000 years

from that time until now, the human

heart sadly has not changed.

You and I know that we're supposed to

love the Lord our God with all of our

heart, soul, mind, and strength. We know

that we're supposed to love our

neighbors as ourselves. Um, and you know

that we don't do that every day. I I

often I look at my decisions and

oftentimes my decisions reflect that I

love myself more than I do God. And my

decisions reflect that I love myself

more than my kids. I Oh man, I see that

every day. Um that my heart is not how

it should be. We love the praise of

others. God like you. You I mean we love

when people Yeah. praise us more than

God. We love our comfort more than God.

So,

we're really coming to a twofold

question here. The question is one, what

what to do about our hearts? But then

here with this context, the land, what

are we going to do about the land? We're

coming to a crux here. How are we going

to get better hearts? And how are we

going to have a better land? Um,

this

this is where Jesus comes. I'm gonna I'm

I'm I'm going to read the scripture

before I explain this. This is a really,

really amazing passage in Hebrews

chapter 9:15.

I'll read it for us. Therefore, he Jesus

is the mediator of a new covenant so

that those who are called may receive

the promised eternal inheritance since a

death has occurred that redeems them

from the transgressions committed under

the first covenant.

Israel broke the covenant over and again

that thousand I mean over and over

again. We we break God's covenant, his

promise with us every day. But Jesus

comes and he's called the mediator. The

one who stands who stands and takes our

place. The mediator, the one who takes

who upholds the covenant for us. And

only that, but takes the punishment for

our breaking the covenant when we were

hopeless just like the people of Israel.

Um this section is called how do we

respond? All right. How were the

Israelites supposed to respond to all

that God had done for them through

blessing them, through giving them

descendants, through giving them the

land? They were supposed to to respond

by believing and trusting in God and

obeying him out of a heart of gratitude.

The question, the the response for you

and for me today, how are we supposed to

respond to Jesus's death on the cross

and our place being the mediator of a

new covenant? It's it's the same. We're

supposed to believe and trust and then

have obedience come out of a heart of

gratitude. And what what I want us to

see here that that Joshua was called to

Israel in this covenant renewal. It's

it's not that different for us today.

We're on this side of Jesus and we see

that Jesus is the mediator of the new

covenant that we stand under. But we're

called to trust and to cling to him a a

as as as the one that brings us to God

and then obey out of obedience. I think

many times we as Christians sometimes we

can end sermons with just like okay you

can't uphold God's law that's right no

one can uh Jesus came and he died for

you absolutely so believe in him

absolutely we full stop we are justified

by faith alone and then we stop we'll

stop I know I can stop the sermon there

but here Joshua is calling them to to to

respond not in order to merit God's love

for them but as a as a response

response. It's this it's this gracious

response that he's calling us to. Um so

we've seen that through Jesus' death

that we're redeemed and given new

hearts. Okay. So the second thing we

talked about the land. What's going on

with the land?

Does this mean that we're all going to

go back to to Israel? Are we all going

to go back to the promised land in

Israel?

No, we're not going to do that. Um

let go back to that question. What's the

purpose of the land? What what what do

we say is the purpose of the land? It's

so that we can be with our father. That

that is the cry of that's the deepest

cry of your heart. I don't care what

what you're doing, where you are. The

deepest cry, the deepest pratana, the

deepest desire of your heart is to be

with your father. So we can be together

as a family. Those are the most warmest

moments in life.

um God with us.

What did what was one of the names that

Isaiah

uh called Jesus in his prophecies? Do

you remember in Isaiah he calls Jesus

Emmanuel?

Do we remember what Emanuel means?

Emanuel means God with us. God with us.

Okay. So this is a very important

connection I believe between the Old

Testament and the New Testament.

Being in Jesus is better than being in

the land.

Being in Jesus by faith with the Holy

Spirit that we're sealed with for us is

better than being in the land. I'm not

saying the land was bad. No. But but

that Jesus is better. What we have in

the new covenant in Jesus is better.

um Abraham, Moses, Joshua, all of us who

are God's people, we long for we crave

to go to a home that is better than the

promised land in Israel.

Again, a lot of you away from home right

now, we you crave that that that feeling

that we just get like bits and pieces.

We see we see in a in a in a in a we see

dimly. We don't see it fully, but we're

craving. We we we we we long to go

somewhere that it's better with than

anywhere you can imagine on this earth.

And I want I want to close by reading

from Hebrews 11:es

13- 16. And this talks about how as

children of God, we're all longing for

waiting to go to the heavenly city, the

home that God has prepared for us.

Hebrews 11:13-16

says, "These all these talking about

Abraham, Isaac, these all died in faith,

not having received the things promised,

but having seen them and greeted them

from afar, and having acknowledged that

they were strangers and exiles on the

earth. For people who speak thus make it

clear that they are seeking a homeland."

If they had been thinking of that land

from which they had gone out, they would

have had opportunities to go back, to

return. But as it is, they desire a

better country, that is, a heavenly one.

Therefore, God is not ashamed to be

called their God, for he has prepared

for them a city. Brothers and sisters,

we we are not home yet. We want to go.

We're We're not home yet, though. We're

like Abraham, living by faith. We're

You're a stranger, and you're an exile

on this earth.

Um,

we're seeking a homeland to call our

own.

Um, God, our God, Emmanuel, the one who

came down to be with us. He has prepared

for us a city.
