You remember

that? Do you remember how good that week

felt? Do you remember how excited you

were? Do you remember like just the

feelings of freedom that were welling

up? Like the fre the feelings that all

the weight of the school year were being

like lifted off of you. They were just

disappearing. Do you remember that? I

want you to hold that in your mind.

Remember when you were kids and you felt

that? Also, by the way, teachers feel

that same way as well. They they're

ready. Um parents, what about y'all? How

do y'all feel about that day? I think

it's a different perspective, right? You

there's two different perspectives going

on there. Um children, I mean, we are

when you're a kid and you're getting

ready for

the last day of school. But basically,

you start the school year ready for the

last day of school and you're waiting

and you're counting down the days and

you're eager. You can't wait. And that

last day, I don't know about in your

school, but in my school, we didn't do

anything. The teachers had no power over

us.

Homework, where is thy sting? You know,

it was this amazing, wonderful feeling.

This joy and celebration had come.

parents though it was this kind of oh no

oh no it's come again this day and then

they start checking their calendar when

is the school going to start again and

they sit around when they can get rid of

us and think I wish we'd all been ready

for this day this awful day of gloom but

they realize too late they're not ready

for that day

it's it's it's

a day of of reckoning for parents if if

you will. Um, and if you've ever had

kids go to school, you'll know that. But

if you've probably been to school

at Grace Fellowship, our church in uh,

Prowet, we are we have just finished a

sermon series on the big picture of

scripture. The big um, yeah, the big

picture of scripture, surveying all

these big events that happened in in

scripture. And um we spent seven weeks

kind of looking at what were the big

events that happened. And I encourage

them as a way of illustration to think

of these big events as mountains in a

mountain range. It's just a way for us

to in a sense get to know the geography

of the Bible so that we can orient

ourselves where we are. Um and uh I

don't know if you've you've I maybe have

used this before, but when I lived in

Shanghai, uh how many of you have been

to Shang Mai? Raise your hand. Okay, so

if you've been to Shang Mai, you'll know

there's a mountain and there's a few

mountains, but there is really one

mountain there in Shiang Mai and it's

kind of hard to get lost if you know

where the mountain is and and where you

are in in relation to that mountain. So,

we'd have visitors come to Shang Mai and

um and come and visit us and I'd have to

go to work and I'd say, "Well, just go

and play and and uh you you can't get

lost. We live at the base of the

mountain. If you want to find your way

back home, just look look up to the

mountain. then you'll know where you are

in the city and you'll know how to get

back home.

In the same way, I think that these big

events in scripture help us orient

ourselves to where we are in scripture

to where uh where we go, how to live and

where we're going. And the Bible is full

of these big mountain tops, you know,

the creation, the fall, uh the promised

land, the Messiah, and and it's also

full of these valleys, you know, in

between times, these vast sections of

time where we're in between these

mountains that you see up here.

But how do we navigate the valleys?

Well, we look to the mountains. We look

to the mountains. And if we think

about the the Bible, the whole Bible as

a series, as a mountain range, we can

think of it this way that um

all these all these mountains that have

gone before,

creation, fall, covenant, Exodus,

promised land, Messiah. These are all

mountains that we've gone to before.

They're in the rear view mirror. As we

think about the people of God, we we

have been there before. Now, you and I

may not have been there when Jesus was

born, but our people, our family were

were there. We were we were there. We've

been there. Today, we're going to look

at the last mountain, the one that is

still ahead of us, in front of us. And

that's the return of Christ. And it's

this mountain looms large not only in

the New Testament. It's not a New

Testament thing. It's a it's a whole

Bible thing. In the Old Testament, it's

called the day of the Lord. In the New

Testament, it's called the day of the

Lord or the return of Christ or

sometimes it's referred to as his

appearing.

We haven't reached this mountain yet,

but I want to make the case to you that

this mountain shapes what we do right

now. It shapes the way we hope, the way

we decide, the way we think, the way we

feel, the way we treat each other, the

way that we are, the way we act as a

community here. It it should shape

everything.

And I want to ask you a question before

we go into before we dive into this

passage.

Do you think about,

anticipate,

long for, look for, search for

this day, the day that Jesus will

return? Is this something that is

central in your mind, central in your

heart,

or do you just think it's too

mysterious, too vague, too in the future

to worry about right now? because I

think there's a a a way that we go too

far on either side. We become overly

obsessed and make tribulation charts and

all that stuff or we just don't think

about it at all. But I think we cannot

come to the New Testament much less the

Bible as a whole without thinking about

this day.

I want to propose that this day, this

return of Christ, the day of the Lord

should be central. It should be the the

mountain that's central in our thoughts

and in our prayers and the way we think

about our walk with Christ in the way

that we make decisions and the way that

we pray and the way that we share the

gospel. The day this day of the Lord, it

looms large in all of scripture.

And much like the end of school that we

talked about earlier,

there are two separate reactions to this

day. There are two separate realities

tied to this day. And it has

implications for all our all of life.

And I w to

I want to propose that the uh let me see

what do we have here. I want to look at

it three way. Yeah, here we go. Um three

ways. The day of the Lord is a day of

salvation and rejoicing. So it's a day

of salvation and rejoicing. Two, it's

also a day of wrath and weeping. And

three, it's a day that's near.

So before we read this passage, let me

pray and um let's dive into this

together and see what God has to say

about his great and terrible and

wonderful day.

Let's pray.

Father, this is not

just a fairy tale. It's not just a

story.

It's not a dream. It's real. It's

happening. This is something that is

real. You are returning.

You will come back. There is one sure

future and that is a future with you as

king over all the earth, reigning

and dwelling with your people.

And it also entails that you will remove

any obstacle to your kingdom. Lord, let

this day

captivate us.

Let it fill us with a sense of purpose

and awe

and love and even fear as we think about

what you're telling us in the New

Testament here and in the Old Testament

as well.

Lord, bless this reading and preaching

of the word. Help our hearts to receive

it in Christ's name. Amen.

Um, so I'm going to apologize in

advance.

I'm going to start off. I'm going to

kick us off with Revelation 4-8. And

that's just going to be kind of the

background, the the the foundation. And

there, this is going to be a little bit

of a survey. So, I'm going to use a fair

amount of scripture. I'm going to try to

keep them short and relevant. And uh but

I want us to see that this is

ubiquitous. This is everywhere in the

New Testament. This is everywhere and

it's such a central concept for who we

are as God's people. But let's start

with John and what he says in

Revelation. Grace to you and peace from

him who is and who was and who is to

come and from the seven spirits who were

before his throne.

and from Jesus Christ, the faithful

witness,

the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler

of the kings of the earth. To him who

loves us and who has freed us from our

sins by his blood and made us a kingdom,

priest to his God and father. To him be

glory and dominion forever and ever.

Amen. Behold, he is coming with the

clouds, and every eye will see him, even

those who pierced him, and all the

tribes of the earth will wail on account

of him. Even so, amen. I am the Alpha

and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is

and who was and who is to come, the

Almighty.

So first of all, I want us to see how

this day, the Lord's day, the the day of

the Lord that is is a day of salvation

and rejoicing.

Hebrews, the writer of Hebrews, Hebrews

9 tells us this. But he has has appeared

once and for all at the culmination of

the ages to do away with sin by the by

the sacrifice of himself. Just as people

are destined to to die once and after

that to face judgment, so Christ was

sacrificed once to take the away take

away the sins of many and he will appear

a second time not to bear sin but to

bring salvation to those who are waiting

for him. And then Peter, he says it this

way to these exiled Christians all over

Asia. And when the chief shepherd

appears, you will receive the crown of

glory that will never fade away. And

then Paul says it this way, being

confident of this, that he who began a

good work in you will carry it on to

completion until the day of Christ

Jesus. So each of these passages

actually tell the same story. This is

this is um the same thing that they're

saying over and over here. The salvation

that we have because of the first

appearance of Christ will be made

perfect

upon his second appearing. So this first

appearing brought salvation, brought

mercy. And then this second appearing

for those who are in Jesus actually

brings a completion, a perfection of

that salvation. So it's it's not that we

aren't saved now, you know, because all

of us who trust in Jesus, anyone who

rests in him surely is saved. We are

his. The scriptures tell us that the

Holy Spirit is the deposit is his

deposit for our salvation. that nothing

if we are in Christ, nothing can

separate us from the love of Christ, the

love of God in Christ Jesus. We are

definitely his. We are saved if we are

in him.

But the the way that the scripture

writers, the way that the New Testament

presents this is that there's something

still kind of incomplete about our

salvation,

which sounds weird to say, but it we

still struggle. We still face troubles.

We still have this sinful flesh that

we're bound to. We still

worry and face fears and have live in a

world that is broken

and cursed. But what Christ is bringing

that we see here, what Peter and Paul

and the writer of Hebrews all tell us

about this was that the complete

and utter end of sin, of death, of our

struggle with our own flesh,

a complete end to the curse that all of

creation is under is coming with Jesus.

That is the completion. That is the

salvation that he talks about that he's

bringing not to bear sin. He he's not

coming back a second time to bear sin

but to bring salvation to those of us

who already have that salvation but have

to complete this salvation.

And so this is the reason that so much

of the focus of the New Testament is on

the return of Christ. It's this long

awaited day when all the people of God,

which all the people of God have been

waiting for for all time, we finally get

what we've been waiting for. Not just

salvation, but complete salvation.

Listen to the way that Peter describes

it. We just talked about this in our um

assurance of salvation. In his great

mercy, he has given us new birth into a

living hope through the resurrection of

Jesus Christ from the dead and into an

inheritance that can never perish, spoil

or fade. And this inheritance is kept

for you, sorry, kept in heaven for you

who through faith are shielded by God's

power until the coming of salvation that

is ready to be revealed in the last

time. So he's reminding these exiled,

oppressed, homesick Christians who are

scattered around Asia. And he's also

telling this to us

what God has already done for us in that

he has bought us sure salvation.

What he will do, he'll bring the

completion of that salvation when he

appears. And that this salvation, this

complete defeat of evil, sin, death,

and that our relationship with him

cannot be lost because God himself is

keeping it for us in heaven.

This is really good news. Have you ever

looked or have you ever looked at

yourself in the mirror? Ever thought to

yourself, why do I struggle so much? Why

do I keep sinning the way that I I sin?

Have you ever doubted your salvation?

Have you ever wondered, "Am I even

saved?" You don't have to raise your

hand, but I have. I've sinned so much

that I thought, am I even really his?

Have you ever wondered why there's so

much pain and death and hurt and

darkness around us

that this salvation that he's bringing

says that there is an end to that that

this day of the Lord, this return of

Christ is the day when he brings a

complete end to all of that. But that's

not all he brings.

Listen out. Listen to what else he tells

his disciples as he's getting ready to

leave him. He says,

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You

believe in God, believe also in me.

My father's house has many rooms. And if

that were not so, would I have told you

that I am going to prepare a place for

you? And if I go and prepare a place for

you, I will come back and I will take

you to be with me that you may be with

me where I am." And then Paul echoes

that. He says,

"For the Lord himself will descend from

heaven with a cry of command, with the

voice of an archangel and with the sound

of a trumpet of God. And the dead in

Christ will rise first, and then we who

are alive, who are left, will be caught

up together with them in the clouds to

meet the Lord in the air."

And so we will always be with the Lord.

We will always be with the Lord.

Ha. Have you ever been away from home

for a long time, for a long long time,

and then got the chance to go back home?

You know, you're away from the people

who love you most, from the people you

love most.

From the food you love most, from the

place where you grew up, and then you

got that chance to go back. Do you

remember what it felt like to turn the

last corner before you got to your

house, before you got to where you grew

up?

Do you remember that feeling of coming

home?

This is the story of the whole Bible.

This is it. This is the story. It's the

story of exiles who are brought back

home. It's the story of a father who

loves us, who loves his children even

though we reject him. Even though

we rebel against him, we abandon him.

A father who pays our shameful debts,

who actually takes the punishment that

we deserve, and then who runs out to

find us and to bring us back home.

The return of Christ is really for us

who are believers, it is

it is the reality that our long exile is

done. It's over. It's ended. We go home.

And and more than that really, it's that

home comes to us

inseparably. We can never be separated

from home again. It means that now the

most precious of all the covenant

promises are finally completely

perfectly true. That God will be our God

and that we will be his people and that

he will dwell with us forever and ever.

So I just want to encourage you to think

that this day whether you ever see this

day is your great hope. It is the day

that we long for. It is the day that we

as God's people long for and eagerly

await

for all of us who believe in him and

rest in him.

That day will be a day of rejoicing

only. a day of rejoicing and

celebration. On that day, all pain, all

sorrow, all suffering that we have met

in this life won't be worthy to be

compared to the glory that we will

receive and be revealed in us. So, the

return of Christ, the day of the Lord is

a day of hope, celebration, joy, and

rest for those of us who are in Christ.

The second

side of this is it is also a day of

wrath and weeping.

So when we survey the the scriptures we

see that this is a day of anguish of

wrath and throughout the scriptures if

we look even from old testament all the

way to new from beginning to end God's

people have always anxiously and eagerly

awaited the day of the lord not just

because that's the day when they will

have a day of rejoicing and rest and

celebration but it's also a day in which

their enemies will be put down their

they will be vindicated vindicated.

Finally, when God will come as king and

establish his rule upon the earth where

he will bring perfect justice to an

unjust world. And and I just want to

confess to you right now and to

acknowledge that what we're about to

talk about is a really hard topic. And I

don't have all the answers or even the

answers that might be satisfying to each

of you in this passage as we're going to

talk about it.

But I do want to propose that this is

we we can't divorce this aspect of the

day of the Lord from the scriptures.

That that this is part of it and that

this is a glorious good part of the day

of the Lord. And so there's lots of

places we could go in the New Testament

to get there, but we're just going to

focus right here on 2 Thessalonians

um

3 uh sorry 2 Thessalonians 1. So let me

read this

verse 6 through9. Since indeed God

considered is it just to repay with

affliction those who afflict you and to

grant relief to you who are afflicted as

well as to us

when the Lord Jesus is revealed from

heaven with his mighty angels in flaming

fire inflicting vengeance on those who

do not know God and on those who do not

obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They

will suffer the punishment of eternal

destruction away from the presence of

the Lord and from the glory of his

might. This is a terrifying image. This

is a truly fearful image.

Often when we think about Jesus, we

think about this meek, mild, footwashing

servant that we see often in the

gospels.

But this picture of Christ, like in

Revelation 19,

is the picture of a great king who comes

to defeat his enemies and to establish

his kingdom once and for all. And so we

read earlier in Hebrews that Christ came

once to deal with sin, to deal with the

penalty and punishment due to all

sinners, for all who rest in him, to all

who take refuge in him. He came for

that. But here we see that Christ comes

again, not in mercy or in meekness, but

in power and glory and bringing judgment

with him. And this time he comes not to

deal with sin

in mercy on behalf of those who take

refuge, but to deal with sin, to deal

with sinners, to deal with his enemies.

And who who are the enemies of Christ?

And it's it's simple in this passage.

Those who do not know God, who do not

obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus

Christ.

The enemies of Jesus are those who do

not know him and do not obey him.

All who have ignored him. Anyone who's

rejected him. All who have refused to

bow in allegiance to him. Anyone who's

decided, I just don't want him. I don't

want him to be my king or my God or my

savior. I don't need him. That's the

enemy of Christ.

And I I know like I feel this sometimes

because I know good people who are not

in who are not believers. I know people

that I love who are not believers. And

it feels unfair. It feels like, well,

why can't we just be good? Why can't we

just all be good people? And isn't that

enough? Why does there have to be the

punishment of eternal destruction away

from the presence of the Lord and from

the glory of his might that we see in

verse 9? Well, again, I'm not going to

satisfy you with this answer, but the

answer is fairly simple, although it may

not be easy. It's that he's the king.

He's the king. His glory has been

evident since the creation of the world.

His power and majesty are evident in

creation. And his word is going forth,

has gone forth throughout all creation.

And the king says to us, I am the Lord.

That is my name. My glory I give to no

other, and more my praise to carved

idols. He's the king and he won't have

rivals.

He won't have rivals. When he comes, he

comes with an unshakable, unconquerable

kingdom.

He comes to bring wrath and judgment

upon anything or anyone that opposes

that kingdom.

And he comes to bring true justice, real

justice, to a world that is full of

darkness. and injustice. So that when we

think about this, we think we we we when

we look towards this mountain, this day

of the Lord, we see that every sin,

every wrong that has ever been done,

every evil not covered by his atoning

blood

will be justly judged. And the judgment,

that judgment will be the wrath, the

eternal wrath of God for all who've

rejected him. This is a hard hard truth,

but it's all over the New Testament. So,

the day of the Lord, the return of

Christ then is a day of weeping, of

anguish, and darkness for all those who

are outside of Christ. And then lastly,

it's a day that is near. It's a day that

is at hand, as some say.

Want to ask and I'm just going to raise

my hand. Go ahead and confess here. who

struggles with procrastination.

That's like all of us really. It's not

there's like half of us said yes and

then half of us are lying. Really? Um we

all struggle with procrastination. So

when sometimes we know we have something

to do and then we just put it off and

put it off and then finally we've got to

do it at the very last minute.

I think that carries over to our

spiritual life as well. We all suffer

from time to time with spiritual

procrastination. We tend to think, "I'm

young.

I have plenty of time to get right with

God, to walk with God, to get serious

about God." But the problem is is that

we you never really feel old enough. Do

you like you never I still feel like I'm

about 25. Kiki says it's 12. I can lower

that number to 12. But we we never feel

ready. We never feel like we're mature,

like we're pooy enough to do this.

This spiritual procrastination actually

trains our hearts. It trains our minds

and our souls

to feel

to feel like I just not hunger for God's

presence, for God's coming, for Christ's

coming.

But the way that the scripture writers

write here both in the Old and New

Testament, the way that they talk about

Christ, his appearing should actually

kill this spiritual procrastination.

Both Old Testament prophets and New

Testament apostles and writers, they

warn us against this spiritual lethargy

that we're prone to to feel about our

souls and about last things. And so

again and again, we read in the

scriptures, the the end is at hand. the

end of all things is at hand. And then

Jesus himself over and over, I'm coming

quickly. If you read Revelation, I'm

coming quickly. It's a it's a it's a

liturgy that happens through that that

book.

And the reason they keep doing this

is it's to urge us to repentance, to

urge us to grow in our love for him, to

to set our hearts on him. They want us

to live our lives in such a way that

we're ready. We're just ready for him to

appear. We're ready for the king to show

up. And actually, that's a that's a

really good way for us to think about

and to kind of test our own hearts in

our day-to-day decisions, right? If

Jesus, Think about any area of life

where you're making a decision. If Jesus

were to show up right now in the middle

of me doing this thing, how would I feel

about it? Would I feel that I am

honoring him? Would he feel pleased with

what I'm doing? The point of all this is

that the writers of scripture believe

that the day of the Lord, the return of

Christ

should have an effect on the way we live

our day-to-day life.

It should matter when we wake up in the

morning.

And I want to give you three ways it

should matter. One, it's a day that we

it it should cause us to set our hearts

and our hope on that day.

It should cause us to set our hearts and

our hope on that day.

Paul says this, "Henceforth, there is

laid up for me the crown of

righteousness, which the Lord, the

righteous judge, will award to me on

that day, and not only to me, but to all

who have loved his appearing." So, as we

saw earlier, when Jesus returns, he

brings complete freedom and all the

benefits of our salvation. So,

everything that is promised in our

salvation

happens. It comes it's it becomes

perfect and complete on that day. And

what's more, he rem he he moves his

throne from heaven to earth to be with

his people. He doesn't just take us

home. He brings home to us forever. And

he restores everything that was lost in

the fall. He comes and he brings us

paradise, the kingdom, and he puts an

end to all that's wrong with this world.

He brings full, perfect, permanent

salvation. And the scope of this

salvation is not just personal, it's

cosmic. And so when the writers of the

Bible talk about this day, they speak

they speak about this day with a really

deep joy and a longing that you can feel

when you're reading them. This isn't

merely waiting. You know, you can wait

kind of passively.

If you're a foreigner here, or if you're

anybody who's gotten your driver's

license, there's a way to wait that's

passive. You're just marking the time,

right? you you sit at the DMV or

whatever you call it here and you're

just you're just waiting for your Q

number. So you're you know you're

playing Candy Crush or whatever. I don't

know what you play. That's what my wife

plays. Um and I read a book. I'm much

more holy, you know. No, no, no. Don't

tell her that. She's not watching

anyway. So um but we wait passively. We

that's the way we generally wait for

things. But the the word that Paul uses

here, it's it's a it's not just wait.

It's not just just kind of mark time,

but it's a deep

aching longing. I think in Thai it says

Yeah.

But for us, you know, in in English it

says to all who have loved his

appearing. To all who have loved his

appearing. This is the kind of waiting

that a bride or a groom waits with. It's

a bride. In fact, this is if we believe

John, if we believe Revelation 19 and

21, this is the exact kind of waiting.

It is a it is a longing. It is a I'm

setting my hope on this day.

That's the way we wait.

We re we wait in such a way that

our lives take shape around this

waiting.

We will receive the crown of

righteousness if we love

if we long for his appearing. It means

that really it just means that the

presence of the king in our lives is the

most important thing in our every day.

It's everything for us. It's whom have I

in heaven but you and earth has nothing

I desire besides you. My flesh and my

heart may fail but God is the strength

of my heart and my portion forever. It's

that kind of waiting. It's saying this

is it. This is all I want. It's

everything. So our first duty is to love

God

to set our hope to set our heart on his

This is a good question for us. Do you

love? Do you long for his appearing?

Secondly, we prepare ourselves

for this.

So this naturally follows if we are

waiting not just passively but actively

we are actively setting our hearts on

him and therefore we are shaping our

lives. So what does that mean to shape

our lives around this kind of waiting?

Wherever our hearts, wherever our minds

go, that's where our actions will go.

The the letters, the Thessalonian

letters are really interesting. Every

chapter actually has a reference to the

coming of Christ, to the end, to the day

of the Lord. And that's really important

because Paul really believes that this

day is kind of the it should frame all

of our life, all of our activity. I'm

not going to read this whole passage,

but if you go to three chapter 3 and 4

of uh of uh 1 Thessalonians,

he kind of fleshes this out for us. He

says,

"And may the Lord make you increase and

abound in love for one another." That's

one thing we can do. That's one way that

we wait for the Lord. And as we do for

you, I'm sorry, sorry, for one another

and for all as we do for you. so that he

may establish your hearts blameless in

holiness before our God and father at

the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ with

all his saints. So love and holiness,

love for one another and holiness.

That's the way our lives should look in

this waiting time. And he's praying

basically that at the return of Christ,

these Christians will be found loving

one another and holy. And then in verse

four, have you ever have you ever

wondered what the will of God is for

your life? and we overspiritualize that

and we say should should I be does God

will for me to marry this person or to

be a missionary or to be a pastor or to

be a social media influencer? No, that's

not it. Um he his will for your life is

this. In verse three it says, "For the

will of God is your sanctification."

That is the whole will of God for your

life that you would be sanctified. You

would become more and more like him.

God's will for you is that you would be

more and more and more like him.

The writers of scripture, Paul here is

saying as you wait, align your lives,

align your actions, align your ethics,

align your allegiance

to the kingdom. And then last,

we live and work in the valley.

So earlier I compared

the big events of scripture to um to

mountains. And so when we look at the

Bible, the last mountain, the one that

we're looking forward to is the coming,

the coming of Christ, the appearing of

Jesus.

And the last mountain we saw was the

come the first coming of Jesus. So that

means we're right now in the valley.

We're living today in a valley in

between the mountains. And what do we do

in the valley while we're here? How do

we live in the valley as we're waiting

for this mountain? As we're traveling

towards this last mountaintop,

well, Jesus gives us pretty clear

instructions. First of all, he says in

Matthew 24, "And this gospel of the

kingdom will be preached in the world as

a testimony to all nations, and then the

end will come."

And then in Matthew 28, a very famous

verse. If you're a missionary here, you

probably have it memorized.

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All

authority in heaven and on earth has

been given to me. Therefore, go and make

disciples of all nations, baptizing them

in the name of the Father and the Son

and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them

to obey everything I have commanded you.

And surely I am with you always to the

very end of the age." So now we know

where we are in the story. We're we're

there in the valley. We're we're between

these mountains, the first and second

coming of Christ. We and many many

millions of others are in this valley.

And we have a job. Go therefore and

teach.

And there's this old word that we use in

English sometimes. And you hear it when

people start talking about the second

coming, the the return of Christ. And

it's, oh Lord, hasten the day. Hasten.

You know, make it hurry up. Bring it

fast.

Do you want the kingdom to come? Do you

want this day to arrive? Do you long for

his appearing?

Living and working in the valley like we

just talked about here,

telling people about him, inviting

people to him, that is hastening that

day.

Every time you pray for someone you know

who doesn't know Christ, every time you

share the gospel, every time that you

gather like this on a Sunday to sing and

to praise and to pray, this is your

spiritual sacrifice of worship and

praise according to Hebrews. Every time

you pray for one another, every time you

invite your friends or your family to

church or to hear the gospel, every time

you serve one another and serve others

in the name of Christ, you're hastening

his return. you are demonstrating, you

are working for

his appearing.

I mean, it it's true. It's just the way

that God has he's using means. He's

using us to bring about his return.

It's going to happen. Christ the King

will return and utterly destroy any

person or power set up against him.

If you are outside of Christ today, if

you are trusting in anyone outside

anything outside of him, if you are

trusting in your own goodness, in your

own decentness,

turn to him and find mercy and

salvation.

And for those of us who are in him, who

love him, let's set our hearts and our

hope on him. Let's love his appearing.

Let's long for his presence. Let's prove

that we long for his appearing by living

holy lives, by devoting ourselves to

being together with his people and

encouraging one another towards good

works and towards kingdom ethics. And

let's be a people who invite our friends

and our family and our neighbors to

enter into the kingdom. And let's pray

the way people have prayed since Jesus

left. Come Lord Jesus. Let's pray.

Father, I thank you

that this is not

again this is not a fable or a fairy

tale, but this is the reality that you

are coming to deal with evil once and

for all. You are coming to rescue your

people once and for all. And you are

coming to be with your people once and

for all. Help this mountain as it were

to shape our lives, to shape our actions

and our decisions and our prayers. Let

us look

to you to look to this day when all will

be put right and hope in that day and

let it be the guiding landmark for our

lives.

Lord be with your people. Come Lord

Jesus. Amen.

","":"
["GET
