So,

that was for the Thai speakers. Or if

you'd like to hear the sermon in Thai,

we have translation equipment that you

may use in the corner. And we'll wait

just a moment as

that gets prepared. And if you need to

get that

and then uh you can let maybe someone

can let me know just by raising your

hand that it's working. Ifa

Okay. Can anyone hear? Can you hear it?

Okay. Phone. Okay. Am I? Yeah. Okay.

Good. Um, my name is Tim Mills. If

you're visiting with us this evening, we

especially want to say welcome to you.

We are glad you're here. Even with the

rain falling, that you were able to make

it here. Um, and we're glad you're

visiting.

Grace City, just to give you a little

bit of background about our church, if

you are visiting, we're a community that

is centered around Jesus. centered

around Jesus Christ and the grace of God

that has been made evident through all

that Jesus has done. And so we talk

about it, we preach about it, we sing

about it, and by God's grace, we hope to

live it out as well. Our desire as a

church, as a community, uh is that we

will be captivated

more and more by God's great grace day

in and day out. and his love, his great

love. And that so then we turn to our

neighbor. We have plenty of neighbors in

Bangkok.

We have plenty of neighbors. Love your

neighbor as yourself is the message of

the gospel.

So we do that as a community. We seek to

seek the Lord. Seek after God. And as

God works in us, we hope that we will

become more and more a people that love

and care for this city through the grace

of Jesus Christ. So just a little little

bit of background of what Grace City is

all about. Welcome. We're glad you're

here if you're visiting. So in recent

weeks, we if you want to go back and

listen, the sermons are recorded and you

can go back and listen. But we've been

going through the letters, the books in

the Bible of First and Second Timothy. 1

and 2 Timothy. Uh, and today we're

actually going to be finishing the

letters to Timothy and we'll be looking

at the last chapter of Second Timothy.

And next week in the week beyond, we'll

be looking at the book of Titus, the

book of Titus. Now, these three books in

the New Testament, they're actually

letters.

The Bible has all kinds of writing, all

kinds of pros and poetry even and songs

and psalms.

But these were written as letters. These

books were written as letters. They were

written by the Apostle Paul and they

were written to individual church

leaders. You can probably guess who they

may have been written to. Timothy and

Titus. These letters were written to

encourage.

They were written to outline sound or

truthful doctrine

and they were written to help Timothy,

Titus

in the role that they were serving in at

that time. Now, as these letters are in

the Bible, they are the word of God. And

so just as these letters were written to

Timothy and Titus, these letters were

written so that we today, all these

years later may glean from them. We get

to read someone else's mail as it were

and we get to learn from it. Let me pray

for us. Lord God, we pray that you would

help us today. Open our hearts and our

minds to your scriptures. We believe

these are true and they are inher in

inherent. They are eternal and they are

ready to teach us and show us our own

hearts today. So we ask that you would

do that. Um some of us may be not sure

what we even think about you. If there

is even a God, if there is a God, what

has God done? What has God revealed? So

God, even if someone is exploring

Christianity tonight, wanting to

understand more, we also pray that you

would open hearts and minds. Teach all

of us, encourage all of us. We ask and

pray in your holy name, Lord Jesus.

Amen.

Speaking of letters, I want you to think

about, you know, when was the last time

that you actually wrote a letter to

someone or even a note? You just sat

down and wrote a note.

Can you think about that time? It seems

to I see some smiles. It seems to be a

lost art

in our day and age. It seems to be

something that is from yestery year.

We mostly communicate in a digital

format, right? We send emails, we send

me messages, lots of text messages every

day.

And so the idea of writing and

communicating through a letter or a note

seems old-fashioned, out of date, maybe

even just a lost art. But imagine, all

right, I want you to imagine with me

that you have the opportunity to write a

letter to someone that is important to

you. Maybe it's a family member, maybe

it's a close friend you haven't seen for

a while. Maybe it's another person that

has done something for you. You want to

thank them. It's someone important in

your life. Think so, I want you to think

of that person right now. Who might you

write a letter to? And let me tell you,

if you do, they'll be surprised to get

it. So maybe do that. But who would you

write to? Think about that person right

now.

And depending on who you have in mind,

you probably have some idea of what you

would write. Right now, you know, the

context of the letter and your

relationship with that person, it

actually and obviously dictates what you

would write to them. Maybe it's a thank

you note. Maybe it's a letter to catch

up with some news. Here's what I'm

doing. Here's what life looks like. How

are you? What's happening in your life?

Maybe it's an invitation to a party.

Maybe it's a wedding invitation. We have

some of those happening soon. Now, what

if I told you, okay, you got that in

your mind? Got your, you know who you're

going to write to, maybe what you're

going to write. Now, what if I told you

there's a high likelihood, possibility

that this note, this letter would

actually be the last thing that you get

to communicate to them, the last time

you get to send them a message, the last

time you get to explain something or

tell them what they mean to you.

Suddenly,

this letter, this note takes on a

different meaning, doesn't it? It takes

on some more importance, takes on a

different level of what you want to

explain. Maybe you edit it down. This is

exactly what I want to get across to

this person. Becomes a very, very

important message. And you want to be

careful and precise with how you

communicate and what you say. You'll

make sure you get it all across, right?

That you focus on what really, really

matters. What really matters. and what

you want them to know. Now, this is how

we may look at the letters to Timothy,

particularly this second letter, second

Timothy, because as it was written by

the Apostle Paul, it was written in a

time when he was imprisoned.

He had the ability to write from prison.

He was given scrolls and and quills and

the ability and ink and the ability to

write and compose letters. And these

letters would be carried and

communicated to other people in other

places. So he had that ability, but he

was awaiting trial and he knew likely

that his sentence would be death and

that he would be executed. And so what

he does not know is will this be the

very last time that I can communicate

with Timothy. So, I want you to think

about that as we read this because what

he's getting across particularly in this

last chapter, this last portion of the

letter is what he really wants to say.

Now, of course, this letter was not it

wasn't second Timothy at the top. You

know, Paul didn't write that at the top.

And it wasn't split up into chapters

with numbers for the verses, right?

Those were added later in history to

help us be able to find certain

passages. But as this letter was written

as a whole, we can believe that what

Paul wanted to write was of utmost

importance.

What he wanted to convey to Timothy was

what he really wanted Timothy to know.

I'm going to read that to us, this part

of the letter, chapter 4,

and then we'll spend some time

distilling what Paul really wanted to

get across to Timothy and what we may

glean from this as the word of God. And

this is the word of God. Let me read to

us.

I charge you in the presence of God and

of Christ Jesus who is to judge the

living and the dead and by his appearing

and his kingdom. Preach the word, be

ready in season and out of season.

Reprove, rebuke, and exhort with

complete patience and teaching. For the

time is coming when people will not

endure sound teaching.

But having itching ears, they will

accumulate for themselves teachers to

suit their own passions and will turn

away from listening to the truth and

wander off into myths.

As for you, always be soberminded.

Endure suffering. Do the work of an

evangelist.

fulfill your ministry.

For I am already being poured out as a

drink offering, and the time of my

departure has come. I have fought the

good fight. I have finished the race. I

have kept the faith. Henceforth, there

is laid up for me the crown of

righteousness, which the Lord, the

righteous judge, will award to me on

that day, and not only to me, but also

to all who have loved his appearing.

Do your best to come to me soon for

Damas in love with this present world

has has deserted me and gone to

Thessalonica. Cresins has has gone to

Galatia. Titus to Delalatia. Luke is

alone with me. Get Mark and bring him

with you for he is very useful to me for

ministry. Tishius I have sent to

Ephesus.

When you come bring the cloak that I

left with Carpass at Trrowass. also the

books and above all the parchments.

Alexander the coppermith did me great

harm. The Lord will repay him according

to his deeds. Beware of him yourself,

for he's strongly opposed our message.

At my first offense, no one came to

stand by me, but all deserted me. May it

not be charged against them.

But the Lord stood by me and

strengthened me so that through me the

message might be fully proclaimed and

all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was

rescued from the lion's mouth. The Lord

will rescue me from every evil deed and

bring me safely into his heavenly

kingdom. To him be the glory forever and

ever. Amen. Greet Prisa and Achila

and the household of Anaphorus.

Arasus remained at Corinth and I left

Trophamus who was ill at Militus.

Do your best to come before winter.

Ubilas sends his greetings to you as do

Prudins and Lionus and Claudia and all

the other brothers. The Lord be with

you. Be with your spirit. Grace be with

you. This is the word of God.

Paul focuses this last portion of his

letter

on a singular message for Timothy. That

is to preach the word. To preach the

word of God, the good news of the

gospel. We can think about the good news

of who Jesus is. That is the word of

God. That is the message of God. It's

the message of what God has done in and

through Jesus. At this time it was still

unfolding.

And he adds, Paul adds this, "Be ready

in season and out of season." Be ready

in season and out of season.

Essentially, be prepared all the time.

All the time. Be prepared to share the

hope that you have that we have in Jesus

Christ.

Jesus. Paul alludes to his kingdom. He

talks about his return. Jesus is going

to come again.

He's going to come again. He's going to

return.

His kingdom has come.

His kingdom is coming in full. So preach

the word. Paul says, "Preach the word."

Now remember, Paul's writing this letter

and all of the letters that he writes,

there are more in the New Testament.

to these various churches. He's helping

to encourage them. He's helping to guide

them. He's helping at times to correct

incorrect or uh untruthful doctrine.

He's helping to shape and form. There's

false teaching that's out there. He's

helping to correct it by sharing the

truth.

He's doing this to help Timothy, to

protect Timothy, to protect those in

Timothy's care. And he's helping to

protect him and prepare him for upcoming

and further opposition to the word of

God. So look at verse three. He writes

this, "The time is coming when people

will not endure sound doctrine." So

there are things that are going to be

said and preached and revealed or or

talked about which are not the truth of

God. So be ready, Timothy. He says, "Be

ready to point yourself and others again

to the truth of the word of God."

So he's seeking to help protect the

church from falsehood and that which is

not the gospel.

And he adds this to it's interesting. He

adds this at the end. And he says, "Do

this with patience."

So the word of God is there to help

guide us away from our sin, to reveal

our sin to us, guide us away from our

sin. And it's he lists these different

words. To reprove,

and reprove, actually, I'll tell you

what each of these mean so we have a

greater understanding of them. To

reprove

is to gently correct.

It's to to kindly point someone in the

right direction to to to encourage them

to walk in the truth.

It's a kind there's a kindness to it.

There's a gentleness to it. Now, the

word rebuke, it's a it's a bit stronger.

It's a stronger word. It's to to kind of

criticize in the best light of that word

to really reveal and to be critical of

something in the best possible way

because you care for them. You love

them. And so what you see happening, it

grieves you. And so you're you rebuke,

you reprove, you rebuke. And then to

exhort, which is to strongly encourage,

to urge someone to plead with them

almost

because again, you're concerned for

them. You're concerned for their very

soul.

Do all of this as you preach the word,

Paul says, with complete patience and

teaching.

patience

because God

is a patient and merciful God. God

continually demonstrates his mercy and

his patience unto us and to this world.

And so we are to be patient as we preach

the word and along with a patient and

loving God. We're to do each of these

reprove, to rebuke, to to exhort,

and with teaching. Meaning Paul's saying

this is this rebuke, reproof, this

rebuking, this exhortation

must be done with the desire for

instruction that is understanding and

knowledge that is rooted again in love.

I think it's likely that you've

experienced a situation in your life

where you see a loved one, a friend, uh

someone that you are acquainted with

walking forward in something, living um

in or stepping into something

um that is contrary to God's

law, God's way, God's desires for us.

and you see this happening and you're

you're so concerned for this person.

Now, sometimes it's a a fellow believer

and so as believers, we want to lovingly

come alongside one another, right? And

and and care for one another. It could

be someone that does not claim to follow

Jesus and and they're making decisions

that are really difficult that will lead

to really hard things. And for both of

those people, you feel you feel that

ache in your heart that you want to help

them. You want to protect them. You want

to guide them. Now, for the other

believer, it's especially excruciating,

right? Because you know what they claim.

You know what they believe, but they're

they're being they're entertaining

something which wants to pull them away

from the goodness of God. And so, your

own heart aches for them. Have you

experienced that before? Have you

experienced that before? It's really

tragic and sad. And so you're doing all

you can to love them. Like kind of

gently speak to them. Perhaps you feel

like I've done these things. I've I've

reproved them, right? I've reproved

them. I've rebuked them. I've tried to

get together with them. I'm critical of

what they're doing in the best way, and

I want to help them. And you're praying

for them. You're wanting to be around

them, and you're asking God to help

them.

Patience. Paul says, patience.

Preach the word of God. Let the word of

God do its work on the hearts of others.

And it's hard to understand when we see

that not happening. What is our role

there? We continue to be present in the

life of that person to love them, to

care for them, to let them know we are

there with them

and and longing to love and care for

That's what we're called to do.

And we can pray, we can continue to pray

that God would use his word to remind

them that God would use his word in his

presence of goodness and mercy to call

them to repentance in him.

You know that they would be wooed back

to God by the love and grace that God

has for them. So it's extremely

difficult to see that happening in

someone else's life and to see that

happening when we so long for it to be

different.

So Paul points Timothy towards preaching

the word

and this is the call for all

in Christ Jesus.

This is our call. Preach the word. There

is an evangelistic reality to this.

That's what it is. It's the evangelistic

reality. We are to have hearts

that are sharing living out the truth of

who Jesus is.

with those that we are in community

with, with those around us. And in order

to do that, in order to preach the

gospel, we need to also be anchored in,

we need to be rooted in the gospel

ourselves.

I mean, you're rooted in that. Martin

Luther, the the reformer, he wrote this.

I want you to think about this for a

minute.

He said, 'The highest of all God's

commands is this, that we would ever

hold up before our eyes the image of his

dear son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

He must be daily, daily be our to our

hearts the perfect mirror

in which we behold how much God loves us

and how well in his infinite goodness as

a faithful God he has grandly cared for

us and that he gave us he gave his dear

son

for us.

Do not let this mirror and throne of

grace be torn away from before your

eyes.

Luther is saying do not forget. Do not

forget who you are in Jesus. We must

preach the word of God, the good news of

Jesus to others

and to ourselves

to others that they may be made aware of

the savior Jesus Christ. that they would

know, they would grow in him and be

encouraged in their faith, that they

would come to know and then preach it to

For we are prone to forget

who we are in Jesus. We are prone to

forget

who we are. Do not forget, this passage

is saying, this quote is saying, do not

forget who you are in Jesus. Dear

Christian, you are forgiven in Christ.

You are in Jesus. Do not forget the

grace of God over you in Jesus.

There's a pastor, theologian, Paul Trip.

This is where it gets really practical.

Just a few quotes from him.

No one is more influential in your life

than you

because no one talks to you more than

you do.

In our sin, we constantly find our

responses to life in our fallen world to

be disconnected from the theology that

we confess.

Anger, fear, panic, discouragement, they

stalk our hearts and whisper a false

gospel that will lure our lives away

from what we say we believe. They will

lure us away from Jesus.

I'll leave that there for a moment.

And Paul Trip continues, he says a lot,

but I kind of distilled it to a couple

of things. There's a difference, he

writes, between merely reminding

ourselves of truth

and preaching to ourselves the truth of

The latter preaching the truth of the

gospel is selfconsciously and internally

reminding ourselves of the person and

the presence and provisions of our

redeemer of Jesus. So reminding

ourselves of who Jesus is that Christ is

with us Emmanuel

and what Jesus has done and is doing in

So to sum this up, preach the word of

God. Preach the gospel of Christ to

others. Preach the gospel to your own

heart, to my own heart. Do not forget

who you are in Jesus. And do not forget

what Jesus has done.

He kind of succinctly wraps it up like

this. Make it a daily practice. This is

Lu Luther's mirror, if you will. Hold up

that mirror and gaze on the beauty of

Gaze on the beauty of Christ. Remember

who you are, dear Christian, as a child

of God. Rest in the power and presence

and provision of Jesus Christ. And then

what? Act in reliance of him. live out

the gospel in reliance on him.

In verses three and four

of 2 Timothy 4,

Paul is warning Timothy about this very

thing, about that which is not the

gospel, that which is antithetical to

the gospel. And he's warning of

teachers,

others espousing

teaching that is contrary to the word of

God. He says it's coming. Time is

coming.

And so he's underscoring the importance

of the word of God is the standard.

Remember as Pan Aantan talked about last

week that standard of the panone colors,

right? Designers are looking at those

colors like this is the standard of that

color. In the same way, the word of God,

the truth of God, eternal without error,

we look to the word of God, if a message

comes that doesn't match the word of

God, it is not of God. It is not the

gospel.

So, we have the word of God. So, Paul

says, this is so important. If some

teaching doesn't align, it is not of

God. Be on the lookout for this. Paul's

telling Timothy and we're hearing that

today as well. So, we do guard one

another. We guard our church community.

We guard our own hearts in this as well.

This is a powerful quote from Tim

Keller, Timothy Keller.

We can think about this. He says, "If

your god, like your idea of God never

disagrees with you,

you might be worshiping an idealized

version of yourself."

Are there times where you read the Bible

or you look at what God calls us do uh

to do obedience-wise and we think I

don't want to do that or that's really

hard or I need your help to do this.

Think about forgiveness.

Think I don't want to forgive that

person or I want to forgive them but

it's really hard for me to find that

desire to forgive them. Right? It's

because we're coming up against what God

calls us to. We're not making God in our

own image. In fact, we are allowing God

to make us, to refine us, to teach us.

So, that's interesting, right?

If we never come up against something in

the gospel that's difficult for us, we

need to examine our hearts in that.

Are our thoughts and our beliefs aligned

with the scriptures and the truth of the

gospel? Or are we potentially creating

our own faith, our own religion, our own

set of rules, our own God in our own

image, our own God to serve us.

As we continue reading, Paul turns to

the reality that his life is likely

coming to an end. Did you catch that?

When he said, "The time of my departure

has come," he's thinking, "It could be

any day now. It could be tonight. They

could come and take me away from my

execution. I could be executed

tomorrow, the week after. I do not know.

The time has come for my departure.

I've fought the good fight. I've

finished the race. I've kept the faith."

Paul says these things. He goes on uh to

share and this is where we get to see

like this is a letter you know he gets

to share just some basic details I think

this is interesting right these these

basic details come see me please come

soon and come to visit me here in prison

here are some details for you he kind of

lists some of these things and he talks

about a cloak that he left like you know

bring me that cloak bring me some

parchments bring me some things that I

need some books talks about some

different people he gives some more

warnings to Timothy right? Those like,

"Watch out for this guy. He caused me

some harm. This Alexander, watch out for

him. He's opposed to the message." He's

giving these different these different

details in his letter. He's starting to

sum it up. Starting to close.

But the final thought Paul wants to pass

along is this. He says, "You know, I've

been deserted by some.

I've been left without a defense at

different times."

But he talks about this

He says, "Look,

all these things that I've been through,

all these things that have happened in

my life and what's going to happen to

me, the Lord has stood by me."

The Lord has stood by me and

strengthened me. And why? For what

reason? And Paul writes, "So that

through me the message might be fully

proclaimed and all the Gentiles might

hear it."

So in all of this, and Paul could have

listed a lot of things and in other

letters he does, and as you read about

his transformation

in the gospel and all that he went

through, he could have listed that here.

Again, maybe the urgency

didn't permit him to do that. But in all

of these things that have happened to

Paul and are happening and will happen,

he says, I want to give glory to God.

Everything that's transpired

is for the purpose of God's will and

God's plan.

The Lord has stood by me, Paul writes,

and God has strengthened me so that the

gospel may be preached. The word of God

may be proclaimed.

So, we see this, right? We see it. We

see kind of what happened after these

letters. We see what happens later in

the work of what Jesus continues to do

in the building of the church and the

the spread of the gospel throughout the

world. But at this time, Paul is

desiring to

highlight for Timothy that all that he's

been through, this is for God's glory

and these are God's purposes.

So we friends may also take this as a

great encouragement when we are in Jesus

that the Lord will

be with us.

You remember that term given to Jesus

the newborn king in the Old Testament?

He will be called Emmanuel, meaning God

with us. God with us. So just as Paul

could say, "The Lord stood by me and

strengthened me," we may also say that

as we live our lives

forward,

especially as we face temptations,

especially as we struggle with sin,

especially as we experience setbacks and

frustrations and disappointments and

discouragements and hardships.

Seek after the Lord and submit to his

ways. Preach the word of God to others

and to your own heart and walk in the

way of Jesus.

Some years ago, I participated in a

trail run. Now, Paul's using a little

bit of this language of running a race

here. Here we get this idea of the

Christian life as this momentum and this

trajectory of moving forward in and

through life. So I participated in this

trail run. If you want to do a trail

run, let's talk. Uh they're intense.

They're fun. You're out in the woods. Uh

this one was up in Cawai.

Um and the race, this particular race

had four distance levels.

25 kilometer, 50, 75, and 100 km

distances.

You can guess which one I did, the 25

kilometer. I remember making it to about

the 18th kilometer that day. And I

started to feel some nagging pain in my

right knee, just bothering me. Uh, it's

uncomfortable. Keep going. Keep going.

It's uncomfortable. It got worse. It got

worse. And as it got to I got to the end

of the race, it was just really

uncomfortable. I shouldn't have, you

know, tried to push through it too hard.

And by the time I got to the finish

line, I was basically walking and kind

of limping. I would kind of limp for a

little bit and I could walk for a little

bit. I'd limp for a little bit. Do you

feel like that sometimes? Do you feel

like that?

It was hurting and I just, you know, I

bar, you know, I got across the finish

line. It was great to be done, but it

was painful.

Well, another friend of ours that day,

um, she actually ran the 100 kilometer.

Uh, she started at 5:00 a.m. whereas I

started at seven.

Um, and she, you know, so she had been

running a couple hours before I had even

started. And, and she was still running

long after I had gone back to the hotel,

gotten cleaned up, had lunch, driven

back to Bangkok. She was still running

to get to the 100 uh kilometers.

She ended up placing 14th

overall. She had 13. She was the first

female finisher. She had 13 guys ahead

of her. Pretty incredible, right? Pretty

incredible. And so I was talking to her

actually a couple days ago about this in

this example and she said, 'Yeah, Tim,

you know, a couple years later, remember

when I had to drop out of that other

race because I was in excruciating pain

and I knew that I was going to injure

myself more if I kept going. So I just

kind of share and so yeah, we I she was

reminding me that yeah, sometimes you

feel great.

Glory be to God. run as God gives you

strength. More often than not, perhaps

we feel like I did. You're just limping

along.

There's pain. There's sorrow. There's

discouragement. But friends, what what

Paul is saying here to Timothy and to us

is that the Lord Jesus is with us,

standing with us. Paul's about to die.

He's about to be executed. and and he

could write, "Look, the Lord is with me.

My savior is with me." So really, we

take two things today. You can go back

and read the rest of Paul's letter. He

talks about suffering. He talks about

living before the Lord. He talks about

being anchored in who God is. And in

this final portion today, he says,

"Preach the word.

Gaze upon Jesus. Preach the word to

others, to yourself, to your heart day

in and day out. And we know our

weakness. The Lord is with us. We see it

more often than not. The Lord is with

us. When you're strong, you feel good.

Thanks be to God for giving you that

strength then. But let's rely

more and more and finally and eternally

on Jesus.

Paul closes his letter again, some

various details. These people are doing

this, you know, bring Mark. Um, Mark

probably felt good about that, you know,

like, wow, you know, I'm helpful to him

in his ministry. Um, just some different

details. And he sums up and ends with

this. He says, the Lord be with your

spirit.

Grace be with you. Friends, that is the

message for the Christian day in and day

out. The Lord is with you. The Lord be

with your spirit. Grace be with you. May

God's grace be with us and upon us. May

we feel that day in and day out. And you

know Christian, if you have believed on

Jesus as savior, he is and he is with

you and he is leading you. And there are

going to be some really

challenging things in our lives. And

some of you have said there already have

been and there are now. This is the hope

of the gospel. It's an eternal hope.

Hope for now. Hope for what is coming.

The Lord Jesus is with us. The Lord

Jesus is saving us, helping us. The

grace, his grace is upon us. And for

those of you that are honest, you know,

I don't know what I think about Jesus.

I've heard a lot of things. I've heard

about Christianity a little bit or a lot

and I I just don't know what I think. I

don't know what I believe. First of all,

we understand and you have real

questions and you want to know perhaps

and we'd love to talk to you. Anyone

here would love to entertain your

questions, hear from you kind of where

you are in all of this. But the message

we would hope that you would hear from

this letter written thousands of years,

a couple thousand years ago, is this.

That you are loved. That there is a God

of mercy and grace that wants to lead

you, to help you, and to assure you that

he is with you.

So my hope for you is that your heart is

open to that today and that you bring

your questions and we talk about it and

we ask and pray to God to reveal himself

in power to you. There's a beautiful

part of the book of Hebrews

that talks about the work of the Lord

God in our own hearts and we'll close

with this.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so

great a cloud of witnesses,

let us also lay aside every weight and

sin which clings so closely and let us

run. There's that race idea again. Let

us run with endurance, the race that is

set before us. And here's the here's the

key. Looking to Jesus,

the founder.

Other translations say the author

and the perfector of our faith

who for the joy that was set before him

endured the cross despising the shame

and is seated at the right hand of the

throne of God. So friends, be

encouraged.

Jesus has run the race we cannot run in

full and perfectly. And as we run the

race of life, we can look again and

again to him. The one who has given us

faith. The one who builds and directs

and grows our faith in him.

Let's pray.

Father God, help us

as we walk or maybe run through this

life. Help us to be continually looking

to you for all of this.

Show us now even if there's any way

anything in our hearts in in which we're

being unfaithful to you or are just not

living or or walking in the way that you

want us to and lead us first of all to

understand that

as sinful action and then lead us to

repentance.

Lord Jesus, help us to preach the word

of God as we read today, to preach the

gospel to our own hearts. Stir that up

in us and help us to do that.

May we always know your truth.

Give us hearts of gratitude for all that

you've done for us.

Holy Spirit, come.

Guide us.

Illumine our hearts.

Remind us that you are with us.

and that you are faithful today and you

will be faithful to the end.

We pray all of this in your holy name,

Lord Jesus. Amen.

","":"
["GET
