It's good to

praise God. It's good to worship. And

it's good to hear God's word. And I

Yeah, I've been here at Grey City for

about two years now. This is my first

time preaching here as Ajan Nati said.

Um but it this is actually the first

time I've actually preached in English

in Thailand. You know, I preached many

times in the US in English, never Thai

in the US, but many times in English,

but uh yeah, this is the first time in

in English um here in Thailand. So,

yeah, this is a little different for me.

Um but but praise the Lord to have this

opportunity and I'm grateful to share um

the word of God here. I've I've known of

Grace City Church for since it started

up. A good friend of mine, another

missionary with OMF, Carl Dolford and um

Irwin Kent um from the beginning helped

uh Ajan Nati with some other

missionaries from MTW to begin Grace

City and so have known of Grace City for

for years and years and yeah, just feel

honored to actually be be standing um at

this pulpit to share God's word. And so

yeah, just thanks for this opportunity.

Um, I want to ask a simple question. Do

you believe that God speaks?

Yeah. Is that amazing? God speaks. Psalm

33 says, "The heavens were made by the

word of the Lord and all the stars by

the breath of his mouth." And then verse

9, "For he spoke and it came into being.

He commanded and it came into

existence." Um, and not only does he

speak, but he chooses to speak to us. He

speaks to us. In Hebrews 1, um, verses 1

and 2, it says, "Long ago, uh, God spoke

to our ancestors by the prophets at

different times and in different ways.

In these last days, he has spoken to us

by his son. God has appointed him heir

of all things and made the universe

through him."

We here at Grace City, we believe that

God speaks to us through his word and

that his word primarily serves to point

to Jesus that we may know God that we

might know of his goodness and and his

grace that his word is for our

edification that it's profitable uh for

teaching, for rebuking, and for training

us in righteous living um that we might

be equipped for for good works. Um, my

hope this morning is that we will see

Christ, that we will be built up in our

faith in Christ, and that we will be

spurred on in greater maturity in Christ

and be compelled to love as Christ

loved. Um, our passage today is Titus 2.

Um, there are some difficult parts on

the earlier parts of Titus 2. I'm not

going to actually touch very much on

those today. There's been a lot of ink

things written about those passages, but

I want to spend more on time what I

believe is the heart of that passage um

of what God is trying to communicate and

then touch on some of the the more

difficult things but but largely we want

to see what God has done, what he will

do and what he desires um for his

people.

Uh the title of the sermon today um if

you did not see it was Chiwit uh 365 or

uh life 365. And this is just a little

play on uh Microsoft uh 365. If you know

the slogan for Microsoft, it says

empowering every person and every

organization on the planet to achieve

more.

What a slogan. What a promise. You know,

we serve so that you will achieve more.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus says, "I

came that you might have life, that we

might have life, and that we might have

it abundantly."

God's desire is not for us to simply be

people who achieve, who do great things.

Yes, he wants us to bear fruit, but

God's true heart is that we might have

life, the good life, have it abundantly.

Um, and so if we believe what we believe

about God, if what we believe about

God's word, our desire today is to seek

God in his word, to see the face of

Jesus, and then to receive understanding

um and therefore be changed people by

his word. Um, let's go ahead and pray

and then we will hear of God's word.

Lord, thank you for this sacred time.

Thank you for this moment um that we

come here together to to worship you, to

to praise you, to to lift your name on

high. Thank you that you love us and in

your love you have chosen to speak you

speak to our hearts. Um thank you for

your word, your truth that it reflects

and and shows us Jesus. It shows us

love. It shows us your glory and and

your holiness and your beauty. And Lord,

my prayer is today that you would grant

understanding. My prayer is that uh uh

the words of my mouth um meditation of

my heart would be honoring um and

glorifying to you. It is my prayer that

anything that I may say today um that is

not true to your word, may that thing be

forgotten. Um may it be wiped away. Um,

but that which I say is true and

according to your word, Lord, I pray

that thing will uh go deep into our

hearts, penetrate deep into our hearts

to to change us, to make us more like

Christ, to experience deeper communion

and fellowship with you. I pray these

things in Jesus precious name. Amen.

>> Titus chapter 2.

But you are to proclaim these things

consistent with sound teaching.

Older men are to be self-controlled,

worthy of respect, sensible, and sound

in faith, love, and endurance.

In the same way, older women are to be

reverent in behavior, not slanderers,

not slaves to excessive drinking. They

are to teach what is good so that they

may encourage the young women to love

their husbands and to love their

children to be self-controlled,

pure workers at home, kind and in

submission to their husbands so that

God's word will not be slandered.

In the same way, encourage the young men

to be self-controlled in everything.

Make yourself an example of good works

with integrity and dignity in your

teaching.

Your message is to be sound beyond

reproach so that any opponent will be

ashamed because he doesn't have anything

bad to say about us.

Slaves are to submit to their masters in

everything and to be well pleasing. not

talking back or stealing, but

demonstrating utter faithfulness

so that they may adorn the teaching of

God our Savior in everything.

For the grace of God has appeared,

bringing salvation for all people,

instructing us to deny godlessness and

worldly lusts, and to live in a

sensible, righteous, and godly way in

the present age, while we wait for the

blessed hope, the appearing of the glory

of our great God and Savior, Jesus

Christ.

He gave himself for us to redeem us from

all lawlessness and to cleanse for

himself a people for his own possession,

eager to do good works.

Proclaim these things. Encourage and

rebuke with all authority. Let no one

disregard you.

>> Amen.

Thanks, Beex.

Isn't she beautiful?

The other day I was listening to a a

podcast about some current events going

on in the world by a wellrespected

pastor, theologian, apologetist. Um he

was as he was he was speaking as he was

blogging um he was trying to speak words

of sympathy um into the blogosphere um

in a a you know what could be considered

a neutral way um a neutral non-deisive

way but unfortunately it is almost

impossible nowadays for anything to

actually be said neutally or to be

understood neutrally. um shortly after

writing it uh he found himself attacked

online um for for what he said being

called a liberal nutcase. Um earlier the

the prior week in the same week um I ran

into a parent um of one of my daughter's

classmates who had a little book in his

hand and it was in Thai and uh from a

distance I couldn't quite see what it

was and I I just decided to ask him what

it was and but he it was a book about AI

and so I decided to ask him what was it

about and in brief summary his response

was um that uh basically that

uh in summary is basically that uh two

things that AI was going to take over

the world um or that uh yeah basically

it was going to be like the.com bubble

um and and what he ended up telling me

was that if any if half of what was said

in the book was true then we are living

um in extremely uncertain and maybe even

scary times. We just don't know. Um but

I thought to myself this forces us to

ask the question of in a world digital

world that we live how do we live well?

What kind of foundation um do we have to

live a life well?

Uh my main points for today um number

one our life is secured in the past.

Life secured in the past.

Two, our life is anchored in the future.

And three, our life is compelled for

today. So three main points, life

secured in the past, life anchored in

the future, and life compelled for

today.

When I was younger, um, my father, he is

a huge 70s rock and roll fan.

loves 70s rock and roll. Um, some of

this rubbed off on me. Um, some of his

favorite bands were the Rolling Stones,

the Eagles, Steelely Dan, The Who. I

don't know if any of you have heard of

any, maybe some of you have. Uh,

Credence, Clearwater Revival, Leonard

Skinnard, this is Hotel California,

their possibly their most f famous song.

the Almond Brothers band, Crosby, Still

Nashing Young, Boston, etc., etc. I

could keep going on all these great 70s

rock and roll bands. Um, and want to

know, they are awesome. If you've never

listened, I highly recommend it. The

music is great. Um, as a high school

student, one of my favorite bands was

one of those 70s rock and roll bands,

Journey, and I loved them. In my mind,

Journey had it all. They had rock and

roll ballads. They had love ballads.

Rock and roll ballads like Don't Stop

Believing, Separate Ways, Any Way You

Want It, That's the Way You Get It. Um,

and then Love Ballads like Open Arms,

Lights, and Faithfully. Oh, these were

great songs. Um, if you don't know

Journey, I recommend going and

listening. Journey is a great band. Even

my daughter is nodding, saying, "Yes,

great bands." U, one of my favorite

memories from when I was young was was

playing basketball with friends while

blasting Journey songs um on our our old

tape cassette boom box. Um, we didn't

even have a CD player at the time. Um,

and the the song by Journey that I I

loved the most was this old song called

Wheel in the Sky. Um, the first verse in

the the chorus go like this. Winter is

here again, oh Lord.

Haven't been home in a year or more. I

hope she holds on a little longer. Sent

a letter on a long summer day. Made of

silver, not of clay.

Oh, I've been running down this dusty

road.

Oh, the wheel in the sky keeps on

running. I don't know where I'll be

tomorrow.

Wheel in the sky keeps on turning.

The basic premise of the song is that

the the author of the song feels

powerless to to change his

circumstances. He's made certain choices

in the past and decisions that he's made

has led him to that point and he feels

like he has no ability to change his

circumstances. He can't get home. He

feels he's on the road. Winter is coming

around once again. He has come to a

point to where he feels he has no agency

um to make things different. um

basically has this feeling of what is

going to happen is going to happen. Um

what was going to happen was going to

happen.

Life is hard. Life is complex.

From one standpoint, life could be

simple.

You live life, you go about your days,

whatever happens happens. Things fall

into place and you just keep on living.

No need to give much attention to the

decisions that we make but simply allow

life to happen and go with the flow. No

need to think too much about the

complexities of life. However, for many

this is a sense that is changing. Um

many people are realizing that we do

have some agency but we need some kind

of outside help. um we need something to

to kind of help spur us along, encourage

us. Um and they recognized, okay, we do

have the ability to form new habits,

practices, um and to make decisions that

will have an impact on the direction of

their own lives. Um and this is a part

of a growing realization and love for

for life coaches. Has anybody here ever

met a life coach? Awesome. Sometimes

life feels a little bit like this, all

the decisions. So the growing need for

life coaches.

So after seeing a life coach, you might

feel like this on the the left,

feel like this for a few days.

After that going back to normal. So

yeah, this might be a typical experience

of of many people with a a life coach.

Um in between the years of 2019 and 2022

um you can see this on the represented

on the graph. Um starting in n uh 2019

there's approximately 71,000 active

certified coaches. Um and going to um in

um there is a belief that there was

about 100,000 100 and 9,200.

Um, that is an increase of about a

little over 38,000 new coaches with with

a percentage increase of 54%.

The official numbers for 2025 has not

come out yet. Um, but they're they're

projecting that there's going to be

almost 170,000

uh uh certified life coaches um with a

global market value of about 7.3 billion

US. That's a a a big drive. and need for

for life coaching, people realizing um

that they need this. I don't have

anything against life coaches. Um I've

gone through training to be a life coach

to a certain level. I have not been

certified. Um so I do think that there

has been many things very helpful about

um life coaching and have been helped um

by a life coach as well. Um but we need

something far greater um than a life

coach. Um, a life coach doesn't cut it.

As I as we saw in the picture going

back, we might start here, but very

shortly we come back to this reality. We

need more than a coach.

We need the gospel of Jesus.

In verse 11 uh we read for the grace of

God has appeared bringing salvation for

all pe uh for all people. As much as a

coach may help um us salvation is found

in no coach. Every human being we have a

major impediment

um and that we are dust and we can never

leave up to our own standards.

Whether we want to admit it or not, none

of us can live up to our own standards.

This leads to another question. Where

does this idea of a standard come from?

If we think that the standard comes from

ourselves and is a subjective idea, we

have no foundation for a standard.

I can do what I want. You can do what

you want. I could walk into my

neighbor's house, grab his wallet, and

pull 2,000 bot out of his wallet, and he

has no place to accuse me of what I did

was wrong. He can't judge me. There is

no standard justification for him to

judge me. Kind of like in Kings where

all did what was right in their own eyes

because there was no king.

But there is an objective moral

standard. This idea that we believe that

there is some kind of standard has to

come from somewhere. This points to the

idea that there is a moral standard.

Um I cannot just simply go into my

neighbor's house and pull out 2,000 bot

from his wallet.

As believers, we believe the standard

comes from God and that we have all

fallen short of God's glory and that

we're all guilty of sin and that we are

slaves to the power of sin. And we see

this in Genesis 2 that we are from dust.

And from Psalm uh 103:14,

God's knowledge that we are dust and in

1 Corinthians 5 uh 14-7 where Paul draws

on the contrast that we are uh made of

dust. And this reflects our mortality um

u even if we do bear the image of of

Christ um that image has been marred.

The reality is is we are sinners and we

are dependent on God's grace. There is

no point that we will ever grow beyond

our need for God's grace. We need a

savior.

Even after we have received our fully

glorified state, we will always be

limited in what we know um we know of

God and our own righteousness. However,

God is unlike us. He has always been and

always will be glorious, all knowing,

all powerful, and unconstrained in his

generosity to his people. Um Psalm 147

says, "He counts the number of the

stars. He gives names to all of them.

Our Lord is great, vast in power. His

understanding is infinite." Exodus

Exodus 34:6. The Lord is a compassionate

and gracious God, slow to anger and

abounding in faithful love and truth. We

need this kind of God. But we need to

know that this God is for us. If this

God is not for us, then we can be

certain that his judgment and wrath

awaits. And how can we know that this

God is for us? Um, in verse 14 it says,

"He gave himself for us to redeem us

from all lawlessness and to cleanse for

himself a people for his own

possession."

So, we often hear this word redeemed,

but what does this word mean? What are

we to understand about this word

redeemed? So often we read it and we

pass right on over it. um we've grown

accustomed to this uh idea of redemption

in the Old Testament, the minor prophet

book of Hova, it gives us a picture um

gives us a deeper understanding of the

meaning of redemption. If you are not

familiar with the prophet Hosea, it it's

actually kind of a bit shocking the

imagery um and the story of what God

requests the prophet Hosea to do in

order for us to understand what

redemption is. Um so at the beginning of

Hosea uh God comes to Hosea and he tells

Hosea to marry a promiscuous woman.

Basically a woman who has slept around

with other men and he has told her told

Hosea to go marry her.

That's shocking.

Why would God do that? Why would God

call a person into this kind of

relationship? Um, I believe the reason

why we see this in Hosea is that God

wants us to understand the kind of

radical, amazing love that he has for

us, his people.

In Hosea 3, God tells Hosea to show

love. Not just to bring her, he says to

go show love, not just take a wife, but

to show love to a woman who is loved by

another man

and is an adulteress, just as the Lord

loves the Israelites as he loves us, as

the Lord loves the Israelites, though

they turn to other gods.

What we see in Hosea is that the prophet

can't simply take his faithless life,

his faithless wife back

because of his reckless living. Because

of her sin, she is now a slave to

another. And she can only be had back by

paying the price for her sin. He must

redeem her. In verse two in Hosea

chapter 3, we see the price that Hosea

has to pay. The price is 15 shekels of

silver and nine bushels uh nine bushels

bushels of barley. So what's with that?

15 shekels of s silver and and nine

bushels of barley. Well, under the old

covenant, the Levitical um system uh

law, the the barley was was used in a

sacrifice in the circumstance where

there was a woman who was believed to be

unfaithful, who is believed to be an

adulteress. Somebody could come and they

could give a a barley sacrifice, a

sacrifice using barley, and then she

would then be assumed to not be guilty.

Now, it didn't this doesn't say that she

was guilty. It said that she was

presumed to be guilty. So, if they were

to give a this this barley sacrifice,

then she could be declared um um

innocent. Um

so, nine bushels of of barley was valued

at about 15 shekels of silver.

30 shekels of silver. basically the

price. Where do we remember this idea of

30 shekels of silver?

When Judas betrayed Christ, the priest

gave him 30 shekels of silver.

This was the redemption price for

Christ. This was Christ's life. This is

pointing from the Old Testament this

idea of to bring Hosea back, he must

give this price. There was a price that

was demanded. Hosea paid this. Even for

an unfaithful wife, Christ, even for an

unfaithful people, Christ gave his life,

loving his people that we might be

redeemed.

Our forgiveness, our being redeemed

comes by the blood of Christ. It is

through him that salvation has come.

Verse 11, we also read, "For the grace

of God appeared, bringing salvation for

all people."

God's grace is for all people. Who here

has been to Japan or Washington DC um I

think there's a place in Georgia as well

and have seen the the cherry blossom

trees

when in in bloom. These trees are

stunningly beautiful. Back in uh uh

1912, the Japanese gifted 3,000 cherry

blossom trees to the US as a sign of

good relations. Um this was not a gift

to all people, but was a gift to the US

and had a very specific purpose. Um

certainly Japanese gave it a desire a

desire to have a good mutual

relationship, diplomatic advantages. Um,

but I think history we we know it it

didn't end up too well with in World War

II when Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and

we ended up going to war. Um, but

thankfully nowadays relationships with

Japan are are once again. But unlike the

cherry blossom trees that Japan gave to

the US, God's grace, God's beautiful

grace goes out to all people. Psalm 117

says, "Praise the Lord, all nations

glorify him. all peoples. Matthew 28:19,

"Go therefore and make disciples of all

nations." Mark 16:15, "Whoever believes

and is baptized will be saved." Um, John

1:12, "But to all who but to all who did

receive him, he gave them the right to

be children of God, to those who believe

in his name." And then Revelation 4:6

with the eternal gospel to announce to

the inhabitants of the earth to every

nation, tribe, language, and people. In

Revelation 5:9, you purchased people for

God by your blood from every tribe and

language and people and nation. You made

them a kingdom of priests to our God,

and they will reign on the earth. The

gospel is for all people. And as

Christians, God calls us to be involved.

Simple way I want to encourage everybody

to be involved um in one way or another.

Who here has Instagram or or Facebook?

So, this is a really cool um little

project that uh Becca has had the chance

to be involved with over the past uh few

three to four months. Um uh the founder

of OMF, man by the name of Hudson's

Taylor, um started OMF. He had the heart

to reach the Chinese people. Um a Thai

um Thai guy by the name of OFF. He uh is

now currently the director for the OMF

Thai uh home side. His responsibility is

to see Thai people have a heart for

seeing people from every tongue, tribe,

and nation be be worshippers and to send

Thai people out to to worship at other

people. So, he got this idea of uh well,

why not have like a graphic novel that

because he was impacted by biographies

of Hudson Taylor, but he recognizes many

young people today just don't read

biographies, might not read much at all,

but many like graphic novels. They're on

Facebook, they're on Instagram. And so

he kind of put the two ideas together.

And so Becca was asked and she's done

writing for most of the script. There's

nine episodes. And and you can find

these uh on both Instagram and on uh

Facebook. I believe right now it's up to

episode seven. Episode 7 has come out.

If you go on Instagram and you find the

uh uh Sanha Missionetti Thai, um if you

search that, if you want to pull out

your phone, I'll give you permission

right now and do a search for it on

Instagram or Facebook, then you can

enter in and you can see these um on

Instagram and Facebook, it'll show up in

carousel format or a real, I'm not sure

what it's called nowadays, but but you

can catch it. And I just want to

encourage you to to read um the

biographies, read of a man who committed

his life to um

taking the gospel to hard-to-reach

places um and then to equip and empower

other people to um take the gospel as

well. If it weren't for people like him,

we wouldn't be sitting in this place.

And so, praise God. Um,

yeah, for the testimonies, the

biographies, the stories of of people

like Hudson Taylor.

All right. So, that's my little

shameless plug.

Life anchored by the future.

Number two,

verse 13 says, "While we wait for the

of our great God and Savior Jesus

Christ." Hope,

the way that we sometimes casually use

that word hope um has almost stripped

some significance from the word hope. We

use it so easily. The usage the scope of

the usage of the word hope is very

broad. Um, some might say, 'I hope that

it does, I think we're all saying this

right now in rainy season. I hope that

it doesn't rain tomorrow. That might be

a big hope.

I hope that he or she talks to me. I

hope that you enjoy the food. I hope

that I receive a promotion at work. I

hope that my spouse will decide to trust

in Jesus for their salvation.

Some of these are significant. Some of

these are small. But the biblical idea

of hope is much more weighty. It is much

more significant to our lives and faith.

Hope as seen in the New Testament is one

of the most central theological ideas

related to salvation and redemption.

Paul included it as one of the major the

major virtues of the Christian faith

next next to the Christian life next to

faith and love in 1 Corinthians chapter

13. In Ephesians 4, we see it as one of

the unifying themes of the Christian

life. We are one body, one spirit, one

hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

one God and father of all. that in 1

Corinthians 5:19, Paul essentially

states that if the hope that we have is

not fully realized in the future, the

hope that we have in Christ, then we as

believers are to be pied more than

anyone.

This is strong language for a word that

sometimes we use fairly casually.

The biblical idea of hope is no small

idea.

And if we read our passage again, we see

it's not just hope, but it is we have a

blessed hope. The word here blessed

bears not just the idea of receiving

something good. Um because we receive it

as a blessing um but it is something

that genuinely makes us happy. It

carries that idea of feeling of

happiness. So bringing the two ideas of

a blessing and happiness combined. So we

have a blessed happy hope in Christ. We

have a happy and joyful experience of

knowing uh for Christ. And then we see

this idea of waiting.

What is it that we wait for? Verse 13

reads, "We wait for the glory of our

great God and Savior Jesus Christ." The

way I like to think about um

the glory of Christ is I often try to

think of Christ's humility first. If we

think about what are the opposites, we

have humility, glory,

humility and glory. What do we know of

of Christ's humility? We know um that

during Jesus's first advent, he became a

baby. He went he grew up as a person

probably not very wealthy. Um he was a

man. Um and he humbled himself to the

point of of death. For the the Jews

during Jesus' time their expectation of

a coming Messiah

uh was not a crucified Messiah. This was

not the the majority of view. The

majority of them believed that the

coming Messiah would would conquer over

the ro Roman people. They did not expect

that the Messiah would come to give his

life as a ransom to set us free from

sin. The freedom that they expected was

a freedom from oppression from the

Romans. Um and that this Messiah was to

be a glorious leader.

Now in one way their understanding of

the Messiah

was correct. They did have a glorious

leader. But his primary ambition was to

li liberate us not from the oppression

of the Romans or of evil systems in the

world but from the sin in our own hearts

from the power of sin in this world. Um

in the gospel of John, Jesus says that

everyone who commits sin is a slave to

sin.

Jesus came in victory. Yes. But it was a

victory that required complete humility

by death on a cross. Why a cross? For

the Romans, the act of crucifixion was

not just to kill someone um in extremely

painful and violent way, but the goal

was to bring utter shame.

Jesus came in humility.

He died a shameful death. He was

declared guilty by people and he was uh

utterly shameful in their eyes.

This was Jesus's first coming. Of

course, we know he rose again from the

dead and he uh reigns in glory at the

right hand of the father. But there will

be a day that he comes back in glory and

every eye will see him as our risen

conquering lord. He will bring judgment

and he will bring perfect judge uh

justice. For those who trust in Jesus,

we have we will have perfect communion

with him. What we experience now dimly

will we will experience full. Um right

now we do experience the communion with

Christ. Um but we will experience it in

full when we see him face to face. And

this is that glorious blessed hope that

we um await for that we will one day see

Christ face to face in the fullness of

who he is and we will have perfect

communion with him.

There's an author Nichka Nij Gupta. I'm

not even sure exactly how to pronounce

it. Nij Gupta. Um he wrote a book called

uh 15 New Testament Words of Life, a New

Testament theology for real life. Um and

he says this about hope in this this uh

in this book. He says hope requires

imagination.

Now we imagine that Christ will come

back and it's a true imagination. It's a

vision that we have. says, "So hope

requires imagination, but that heavenly

imagination then is meant to have a

direct impact on our lives today."

And

all right, so who's ever seen uh the the

series Disney Plus series Andor?

Anybody ever seen it? It's pretty

western. Or the movie Rogue One Disney

movie. Yeah, few of you. Yeah, it wasn't

so popular here. There's a great line in

this movie. A great line. Um, so the

leader is this guy named uh Andor and

you know they have the plans uh or it

hasn't gotten to the point in Star Wars

in a Star Wars movie where they've

gotten the plans to how to destroy the

Death Star. And but they have this idea

of how they can get the plans of how

then to destroy the Death Star. And so

they have this hope that is in front of

them. And one of the other characters

says to him,

"There is no hope. Impossible. Can't

be." And basically he responds back to

her, "Rebellions are built on hope."

That is a great line. I love it. As

Christians, we fight against sin because

we have hope. We rebel against sin

because of the hope that is front of us.

Um, and so I was thinking about this and

I I wrote down what I could think about

hope and I wanted to summarize in one

line. Um, and so I I came up with this.

It says, "Christian hope is faith

looking forward to a certain future." So

we know a certain future that is going

to happen. And then it's pulling the

resources of that future into our

present lives in order to live in a way

that compels us to good works and

faithful living.

So that line

rebellions are built on hope. We have an

amazing hope and it compels us to live.

Okay. So life compelled for today. Verse

12, we read, "Instructing us to deny

godlessness and worldly lust and to live

in a sensible, righteous, and godly way

in the present age." As God's people, we

are chosen to live differently from

others.

He has made us his people, his prized

possession. So we see the two paths

here. So last week um we saw in chapter

one um

uh we saw so in chapter two we have God

and he has called the church his prized

possession.

And in chapter one we go back and we see

that there's another group of people

that are connected to the church besides

Paul and and Titus. Um unfortunately

they didn't have the best interest in

mind for this group of believers. um

they were more interested in dishonest

gain. Uh they wanted a little extra the

money for their their their bank

account. Um

and unfortunately the impact that they

had on the families was we we learn in

chapter one that it left them destroyed.

Um and that they were ruining entire h

uh households. Um, and as we see in

this, this is the polar opposite of

God's intention for us. And we have seen

in in verse two or chapter 2, it says

that God has called us to be his

treasured possession.

and and looking into

and back in uh going back to verse one

of chapter two um Paul lists a number of

some are general principles and then

some are commands that he's given to

different groups of people for for them

to follow. And I think what's going on

here is in chapter one we saw that they

had been causing um ruin upon all the

households. So when they come together

the church is in disarray, families are

in disarray. And basically Paul is

saying to Titus, you need to work to put

things in order. And here are commands.

here are general principles that you

need to know and to teach in order to

bring cha uh bring order from chaos. Um

and so he uh and then in verse 12 it

says you need to teach them to live in a

sensible, righteous and godly way in

this present age.

So God is very concerned with the way

that we live our life. Um just because

we know Christ as our Lord and Savior,

it is does not mean that we have the

freedom to choose to live the way that

we desire. Christ calls us to obedience.

Um as we look more closely, we can see

um that Paul is quite clear concerned

with the situation in the church and

that correction must happen. In verse 5,

um he is concerned that God's word would

not be slandered. So by the way that

they were living, what was happening in

the church is God's word was being

slandered. Paul's concerned about this.

Verse eight, that the church would adorn

the teaching of God our savior in

everything. Verse 6 and seven, that

young men should be self-controlled in

everything. In verse 12, we're to live

sensibly, godly, and righteously. Again,

concerned about the way that we live our

lives. Verse 14, he has cleansed us so

that we would be eager for good works.

And then lastly in verse 15, uh Titus is

to proclaim these things.

The grace of God compels us to live

righteously. When we have a proper view

of what the gospel is and what Jesus has

done for us, we don't respond to God out

of a love of I must do this, but we

respond out of hearts of love and

gratitude because we desire to show love

to the one who loves us. Um

today I believe that one of the greatest

needs for the church today uh is to

learn what it means um and what are the

implications of being disciples in a

digital age.

It's hard. It's really hard.

Can anybody else say it's hard? It's

hard. Let's just say it. It is what it

is. Um, raising kids who are digital

nomads

hard. I'm not a digital nomad. It is

hard. Um, it has such an ability to

shape us. It really does. We must

understand that technology, yes, it is a

useful tool. Um, but it's not to be it's

not designed to be valuable.

It it's not um it is designed and

created to form us. Um we are the ones

being used by technology. Yes, we are

users of technology, but as as believers

in Christ, we are to be formed after

Christ. We have agency in becoming like

Are you familiar with these ideas?

trolling, click baiting, and rage

baiting.

I just want to challenge all of us

when it comes to living in our day and

age. I do believe that the greatest need

that we have is to learn what it means

to be disciples of Jesus Christ in a

digital world.

More and more the digital world is more

of the real world for

many people. The face-to-face

interactions mean less. We need to learn

what it means to be disciples of Christ

in a digital age. Trolling.

Has anybody here ever trolled somebody?

I have.

Want to know what? I'm no longer on

Facebook.

I'm not on Instagram.

Click baiting. Has anybody ever done

click baiting or read clickbait? clicked

in.

Raise your hands. We've all done it.

Okay, this one you don't have to raise

your hand on. Have you heard of rage

baiting?

Yeah, rage baiting purposely put out

there to try to make people angry.

This is reality.

What does it live for us to live as

disciples of Christ in a digital age?

It might mean

well

being less on Instagram. It might mean

not posting or responding

to the things that you want to respond

because when you put it out there, you

put it not just in your local place

where you live. What I say in my house,

it stays most of the time, I hope, in

the house, but when you put it online,

it goes everywhere.

We're not all designed to have what we

say to go everywhere.

The vast majority of my words

should be in my own home, should be in

my own context. They don't need to go

everywhere.

because they can be ripped apart and

they can be taken wrong. And we can so

easily

be clickbaited. We can so easily troll

other people. Often our emotions go so

high we could go into rage baiting. We

live in such a divisive world that we

can so easily fall into the trap.

One question I thought my to myself um

the other night was algorithms

and I I want all of you all of us to

think about this.

Does our algorithm

adorn

the beauty of the gospel of Jesus

Christ?

What adorns our algorithm?

Is it the division, the anger that's in

the world? Or is it the gospel of Jesus

Christ that adorns our life both

physically in the present places that we

live and in our digital spaces that

hopefully we don't spend too much time

and I hope that we'll spend more time in

non-digital spaces um and that we will

be a people who continually pursue the

life that Christ has for us. that we

will know that our life is

our life is secured in the past because

what Christ has done. Our life is

anchored from the future because we know

what awaits. And because of both of

these, our life is compelled for today.

Amen.

Lord, I just thank you for your word and

for your truth. Thank you for Jesus.

Thank you for grace and that you are

patient with us. That you are always

faithful and that your love is far

greater, deeper, and wider than what we

can possibly imagine. And we pray these

things in Jesus name. Amen.

","":"
["GET
