Let's take this time to go ahead

and pray for Thailand.

Foreign

speech. Foreign speech. Foreign speech.

Amen.

It's uh it's it's really an honor for me

to be able to preach from this pulpit

and it's very strange for me to preach

in English and not in Thai. Um so it's

so I might switch back and forth. Uh it

might be a little confusing for me. Um

so yeah so this is our family. Um uh my

wife is Nat. She might actually might be

recognized by some of of you as uh she

is working at ICS. And uh the other

special thing is that our our son who's

on this side, he actually attends the

same university that Achan Nuti attended

as well. And so I I grew up in that

area. And so I was a Cardinals baseball

fan as as a Chani still is right now to

this day. Um but uh we right now our

family is serving at Gospel City Bangkok

Church. It's really like a little sister

church of Grace City. we share a very

similar name and um has been serving

there for a while and it's really been a

blessing for myself and then Aan Ben who

is the pastor uh the head pastor at

gospel city to be working with Aan Nati

and PB and uh and just a few others even

here in in Grace City and so it's really

a privilege for us and really an honor

for me to be able to preach here from

the pulpit so if you could just pray one

more time as we go into the message I'm

kind of nervous [clears throat]

our heavenly father we lift up our

hearts to you and we ask that you would

speak to us as only you can that you

would touch our hearts. Help us to

understand your word and that we would

respond uh with a heart of worship

before you that we would rejoice in who

you are and your character. So we lift

up this time to you and we depend upon

you. We pray for your spirit to move in

our midst and to teach us as we pray

these things in Jesus name. Amen. Okay.

So we'll be reading from from Psalm 97.

Um so follow with me as I read this. The

Lord reigns. Let the earth rejoice. Let

the many coastlands be glad. Clouds and

thick darkness are all around him.

Righteousness and justice are the

foundation of his throne. Fire goes

before him and burns up his adversaries

all around. His lightnings light up the

world. The earth sees and trembles. The

mountains melt like wax before the Lord

before the Lord of all the earth. The

heavens proclaim his righteousness and

all the peoples see his glory. All

worshippers of images are put to shame,

who make their boast in worthless idols.

Worship him, all you gods. Zion hears

and is glad, and the daughters of Judah

rejoice because of your judgments, O

Lord. For you, oh Lord, are most high

over all the earth. You are exalted far

above all gods. Oh you who love the Lord

hate evil. He preserves the lives of his

saints. He delivers them from the hand

of the wicked. Light is sown for the

righteous and joy for the upright in

heart. Rejoice in the Lord, oh you

righteous, and give thanks to his holy

name. As we talk about this morning, I I

I'd like for you to maybe pair up or

talk to someone nearby you and and share

with one another what is your favorite

attribute or characteristic of God.

Could you do that? Talk to one another

and tell each other what is your

favorite characteristic or your favorite

attribute of God. Go ahead and share

that with someone and explain and share

with them why.

Okay. I wonder so just if you could just

shout out some of the things that you

said. So just say it out loud. Just say

out what is that characteristic that

attribute of God that you that you

really enjoy? Go ahead and say it out

loud.

>> Creator Godcy

>> mercy

>> justice

>> sup supremacy

>> sovereignty. Oo

>> righteousness.

>> Anyone else? Humor.

>> Humor. Oh, that's a that's a pretty good

one. Anyone else? I'm I'm actually kind

of surprised. Maybe it's kind of telling

of where your church is because mo but

most people would think of talk about

the love of God, the mercy of God and

and and yet I heard like justice,

sovereignty, and righteousness. Wow.

This is Yes. This is why I was nervous

preparing to preach here today. Um

because I I think most for many many

people when we think about the character

of God, we don't always think of

righteousness as one of the high

attributes that we really enjoy, right?

How many of us we say, "Oh, I really

delight in the Lord and his

righteousness because he will bring

justice and he will bring vengeance on

all of my enemies and on his praise God

for his righteousness." Many people

don't necessarily think that way, but

it's such an important important thing.

And when we think about God and his

reign and rule, it's an important thing

especially when we face difficulties and

challenges in our lives. So for example,

when I remember maybe some of you if you

remember this past March uh of this year

when the earthquake happened, do you

remember where you were when that

earthquake happened? I remember I was

sitting at Secon Square Mall and I

thought it was a bomb that went off. And

honestly, when I prayed about the

attributes of God in that moment, I did

not pray about God's love. I did not

pray about God's forgiveness. I pray for

God's sovereignty and his power to be

known. And so in that way oftenimes we

focus on the love and the mercy of God

which are so important. But then these

other aspects of God are so important as

well especially when we think about

things like justice and awesomeness and

righteousness. And so when we look at

today in in Psalm 97, we're going to

actually focus on rejoicing in God's

righteousness because as we as you are

doing a series on the Psalms, uh I I was

listening to a John's message last week

and sorry I don't have a physics

illustration today. Um but I was like

whoa. Okay, that made me more nervous

today. But but in your series and

speaking about Psalm 96, 97, and 98,

these Psalms are really talking about

the world's king. And 96 and 98 really

talk about delighting in when the Lord

returns and what that's going to be

like. But then in chapter 97, it it it

really focuses on this this scary,

awesome, huge side of God and his kingly

rule. And so that word righteous

actually used four times in this psalm.

And so we're going to think and talk

about what does righteous righteousness

mean and and what does it mean that we

rejoice in God's righteousness because

it's not one of those things that often

come up like that. So what we're going

to do is we're going to look at three

things. The righteousness of God, how

God's righteousness exposes and shows

our idols. And then the third one is

going to be how we rejoice or why we

rejoice in righteousness as it is. So if

we start at the first one and talking

about the righteousness of God in Psalm

two, he establishes here that this

righteousness is the foundation. That's

really at the core core base of what we

think about and who God is. And then he

then goes on and explains about who what

this righteousness means. So in fact in

verse one it says he says the Lord rules

and reigns. And as he talks about and he

says the Lord rules and reigns, it's

something he says that let the earth be

happy and they'll rejoice at that. Now

today in modern times and it's it's

really really interesting in terms of

even the passing of the queen mother and

even as a nati said that it's really an

end of an era as it is that in the world

today when we think about sovereigns and

kings usually it's kind of seen as a

negative thing right like I'm not going

to make a political statement here but

but a couple weeks ago there were these

big protests in America saying no kings

and there's stuff going on in Thailand

in other places in the world where in

the world Today there seems to be this

thing where people do not like the idea

of kings and and and the idea of

sovereign has kind of a negative feeling

to that. But this idea of the Lord

reigns is so important to understand

what this means because this sovereignty

as the Bible talks about that it's such

an important part of God's character and

it's such an very very um essential

thing characteristic that we need to

have. So in fact some people say that

when we think about the sovereignty of

God we can see God's omniscience meaning

that he is that he knows all things that

when we say God is sovereign and ruling

over all things that he knows all things

that nothing is ever a surprise for God

right nothing is oh wait oh earthquake

oh wait wait wait wait I forgot about

that it's never like that for God to be

sovereign he's also omnipotent a big

word meaning that he is in control and

he has power over all things, right? He

controls all things and events. And so,

as huge as the earthquake was in March,

that God's power was in and working

through that as well. But then one other

characteristic that some people say is

important to sovereignty is God's

freedom in his sovereignty in freedom in

that he can do what he wants and no one

can tell God what to do. That makes him

the ultimate sovereign and king because

he knows all things. He has all power

and he has the freedom to do what he

wants to do. And that's such a very

important thing, a very important

characteristic of God being sovereign.

And it's a very important aspect of what

should be something to give us calmness

and peace in our lives, especially in

difficult times. Because without

sovereignty, God's love and justice

doesn't really have control. There's no

power. There's no way that it can become

alive in our hearts. And so this

sovereign rule that God assures in his

love and justice, it's allows that to

come to us and to be one and a part of

our lives. And so this sovereignty that

we talked about here, it comes from and

it's based out of his righteousness.

Okay. Now if we go on back to this

verse, it gives a picture. This

righteousness, how huge and how amazing

and how awesome it is. So if you look in

verse three, it says, "Fire goes before

him and burns up." Notice that God is

not the one that burns these things. I

imagine like this. I imagine that like

if a lion came into the room, everyone

would move out of the way. In that same

way, when God's presence comes, fire

gets out of the way from God. It's like

that. That's how huge and amazing God

[clears throat] is. If you look in verse

four, it says, "His lightnings light up

the world and the earth sees and

trembles." The earth sees and trembles.

Not God, but the lightning that God

brings. The earth is afraid of the

lightning. And and and not even talking

about God. Even in verse five, it says

the mountains melt like wax before the

Lord. that in God's presence, as as as

permanent as mountains may seem, that

the mountains melt like wax in God's

presence. That's kind of an amazing

amazing picture. When many people think

that this picture that is talked about

here in Psalm 5, many people think that

in this picture of righteousness that

many say that this looks a lot like what

happened uh in when Moses met with God

at Mount Si. And the picture is really

really similar. And other times when God

meets with different people, it has

similar things that happen. Something

like this, like really incredible

incredible things that happen. But

what's so interesting is that for each

of these times when humans meet and

encounter this God, okay, and and and we

read the not even the fire, we're

talking about like when they meet God,

uh and and even the fire moves out of

the way from God that when they meet

this God, people their typical reaction

is fear, trembling, and they're gonna

die, right? That's that's what happens

when they're gonna face God face meet

with God face to face. And that's such a

common occurrence of what happens that

when people see this awesome greatness

of huggeeness of God, they their lives

are shook. They are afraid and they're

afraid they're going to die. And that's

kind of what that does. And that's kind

of something important that we need to

understand about how huge this

righteousness of God really is. And and

and when we see this righteousness of

God, it ought to be something to cause

us to check what our reaction is if we

see something like that. Right? Again,

if a lion came walking into the room, I

think a lot of us, some of us be like,

"Oh, that's so cute." Right? But I think

most of us would be like getting ready

to move. Okay? Some of us might take

someone, put them away in front of them.

I don't know. You might run over here.

You might grab different things. But it

really does it really does cause a

response like even automatically when

you see something great and as huge as

it is. And in that way when we see

something so great or something

troubling or even difficult or fearful

it really is a chance to put us to the

test of of of what's really really

important to us. Was it I I was trying

to look so hard for these videos. I saw

these videos of this video one time a

while ago where a bear came and tried to

grab a family, but then what happened is

the dad the dad he took his child, moved

out of the way and he ran past the child

and left the bear with his child there.

Okay, now if it was a mom, the mom grabs

the kid and run away. But I was like,

"Oh man, this dude, you just totally

made all dads look bad." Okay, because

you just showed what's really really

important to you in that moment of

stress, right? So in that same way, what

we see here in this psalm is that we can

have an opportunity to see that this

righteousness that it really does expose

what's deep inside of our hearts. And

and it's interesting how the psalmist

brings that out in in verse 7. So if you

look at this, it says, "And the heavens

proclaim his righteousness. All the

peoples see his glory." So people see

that. And then in verse 7, he speaks to

their reaction. What did it show? How

did they respond? What happened? And if

you see here, it says, "All worshippers

of of images are put to shame who make

their boast in worthless idols." It

revealed that in their hearts, they had

these idols in their lives. It revealed

that. And that's something that's really

challenging because even as he says here

that those who were ashamed, their idols

were exposed. When the righteousness

came out, when the truth eventually

comes out, they're able to see what's

really going on in their hearts. Now,

interestingly enough, I mean, we're

talking about idols here, but I don't

know if some of you may remember last

year, uh, there was this big big big big

scandal here in Thailand. And this

company which was actually had so many

like D um

celebrities, okay, celebrities and

famous people, doctors and others who

were promoting this. People saw them as

like net idols and like um entertainment

idols and then they got involved in this

trying to promote and then they got in

trouble where it was a case of like

money laundering. Uh these business

executives were lying. There was

political corruption, all these

different things as these people were

relying on their public reputations and

all of a sudden the truth came out and

then these people just like it was such

a shameful shameful shameful thing as it

was. And it was so interesting that

these people as famous and successful as

they were idols in the eyes of the

culture here here in in our country that

that that this thing really revealed

this this big big big huge problem that

they had to experience in their lives.

and and you know and when the psalmist

is talking about idols, I don't think

it's necessarily talking about things

like a big big scandal like this, okay?

Because I mean, you go to great city and

so I'm sure you hear about this a lot uh

because we talk about this at Gospel

City as well that the idols in our

hearts aren't necessarily those those

people on Tik Tockers or or YouTubers or

whatever the stars, but the idols that

we talk about are those things that are

in our hearts. Now I think most of us

would look at this list and would agree

that these things are bad, right? And so

the problem is is that when we like

these things too much, that's the

problem, right? So we all probably would

agree that these are not good things in

the eyes of God. But the thing is is

that our hearts really like these

things, right? We like these things.

They may be big things. It may be small

things. It may be subtle things. But we

have these things to draw us and they

create idols in our hearts. But this is

the thing. The problem is sometimes

those bad things, we all agree those are

bad. But sometimes our hearts are drawn

to good things, right? Also, and some of

us may think, well, what what's wrong

with that? Well, what's wrong with that?

Well, if we look carefully at this,

right? And the way that the Greek word

it talks about this, the idea is the

problem is not that we have a desire for

these good things, okay? of wanting good

grades, of being successful in your job,

having a handsome wife for or we

handsome

boyfriend, okay, or a beautiful wife or

great kids that as good as those things

may be, the problem is not that we want

them, but that we want them too much.

That's the issue. And so even as good of

a thing as it may be, the issue is is

that when it becomes too big of a thing,

especially when the Bible tells us to

love Jesus, that our desire should be

for Jesus. But what happens is in that

moment of choice, we choose between that

good thing versus Jesus and we decide to

choose not Jesus but that thing. Now it

has become number one in our hearts and

that's really at the heart of idolatry,

right? Idolatry is when we place

something above Jesus in our love, in

our value, in our lives. And so when the

psalmist is talking about this, he's not

just talking about this whole icon

company scandal scheme, people going to

jail and stuff like that. He's really

really getting at talking about those

things that when revealed,

those things when revealed will bring

shame to them because that's just kind

of how it happens, right? I mean, I

think that for most of us, if if not all

of us, I if we just kind of took this

little video X-ray thing and went around

to show what's at the most important

thing in your heart, I think that it

might be something that we might not be

too happy about, right? If I have my

phone and I should love my wife number

one and my but then all of a sudden she

grabs my phone, she flips it open and

it's some Instagram model or whatever.

That's a major problem. Right? And it

just reveals because of course I would

be ashamed of that. And in that same

way, there's something about deep deep

deep deep deep in our hearts that when

our attraction to these things, even as

good as they may be, that when these

things become too much and they become

greater than our love for Jesus, that's

the idol, right? We replaced Jesus with

something else. And and as good as these

things may be, the the the basic basic

issue is is that we love something, some

gift more than the giver, God himself,

right? Every gift that comes from the

heavenly uh heavenly uh heavenlies, it's

comes from the father of lights so that

we can know that it comes from him and

not for ourselves but that these things

that we have can lead us and point us to

Christ rather than being stuck to these

things in and of themselves. And that's

really at the nature and at the heart of

what's going on here as he talks about

these people and uh what's being exposed

in their hearts as it is here too. So

that's something important. But

something really interesting is that in

verses 8 and N that the psalmist gives a

picture of what it can look like for

someone who really has Jesus and really

has God at the forefront in their

hearts. In verse 8 and N is kind of a

contrast to verse 7 because in verse 8

it says the person who rejoices in God's

judgments. It talks about the person who

has Jesus exalted far above all other

gods. It's this is a picture of like

someone who has God the Lord as number

one in their hearts that that can

happen. It can be there and it's talking

about something that will happen in the

future when we uh meet with the Lord in

when we have a new heart in heaven. And

so that's really one of the challenges

as we think about that that if if we see

this righteous God for who he really is,

it ought to be something that reveals

what's going on in our hearts and to

show us is there anything in our hearts

that is not pleasing to the Lord that we

have a love for which is not Jesus is

the opportunity to do that. And that's

why it's kind of scary. It's kind of

scary to to to really confront God

because of the things it might reveal in

our hearts and in our lives, but it

really has to start there. That we have

to be brave to be able to do that. But

man, that's hard, isn't it? No one

really likes having our dirty things

trashed out. Every everyone is No one

likes that.

But that's such an important part of

what can happen as we meet and see the

righteousness of God.

So what we're going to see here now is

rejoicing in righteousness and see what

the psalmist says and how he does that.

This is really interesting and really

challenging. In verse 10, he goes on and

the psalmist says, "Oh you who love the

Lord hate evil." So he's kind of saying

that hating evil is one of the marks of

faith and love for God. But do we hate

evil? Now I I know most of us probably

aren't like, you know, like

probably not like enjoy evil like ah

like like that per se, but we really

have to examine ourselves and what does

it really really mean? Because I think

it's a very natural thing for us to sin.

So what I did was I actually found this

uh person this old scholar his name is

Richard Sibs and then he mar he

determined the marks of genuine hatred

of sin. Now this is during the Puritan

times. So you know that these guys man

they really thought it through

but but I feel like definitely compared

to me there's several levels of holy

beyond me okay in terms of where they

are and their love for God. And so

Richard Sibs, he said this, the the way

you can know if you hate sin is like

this. He said, number one is that if you

hate sin, it's universal. You hate all

sins. Okay? It's not a matter of some

sins are okay and somes are not, some

are not, but you hate all sin. Okay?

That's one. Um, the next one that he

says is that it's fixed. Meaning that

it's not about trying to appease or try

to make sin easier or better to deal

with. He says it's about getting rid of

it. It's about killing it alto together.

All right? It's not about well in this

situation maybe, maybe not. But he says

no, the way you go about it is just it's

one way. And then he says that if you

have a hatred of sin, then it's rooted.

Meaning that it's not just a temporary

thing. Okay? Like today I'm IN THE MOOD

OF I REALLY HATE these kinds of things.

It's kind of like it's kind of you know

you like uh like how many of you are

sick of hearing the K-pop demon hunter

songs, right? Oh, okay. Sorry. I didn't

mean to do that. Um, but it doesn't mean

that one day you're okay and then one

day you're not. But it's saying that

it's so deeper. It's so much deeper that

it's not just a temporary thing. And not

also he says that it's not impartial. Um

that uh that's not impartial. Meaning

that you hate sin because sometimes you

do this, right? We hate sin in other

people, but that one in me, it it's not

that bad. You know what I mean? Like

that guy, he's got to repent big time.

Me, mine's not that bad. It's okay.

Okay, my wife's okay with it. That's

okay. But he says it's impartial, right?

There's no there's no favoritism in the

way that we do that. He says also it's

proportionate, meaning that you don't

hate small sins but in others, but

overlooking big sins in our lives. Oh,

that's that's related to impartial part

uh proportionate. And then the last one

is that it's that you're teachable if

you hate sin. meaning that if someone

comes and challenges you about sin in

your life that you're ready to confront

it and to deal with it no matter how

big, no matter how small.

Now looking at this,

the psalmist says the righteous, they

hate sin.

According to Richard Sibs, how are you?

This is tough.

This is really really tough. Some of

these maybe I could get that on a good

day.

But every day I don't know. I I really

don't know. And so to think about that

it's like

man that's tough. And you know what's

tougher? Right after this the psalmist

says light is sown for the righteous.

Rejoice in the Lord oh you righteous. I

I I think about this question. How much

do I hate sin? And then the psalmist now

calls me righteous.

That doesn't really sit well with me. I

mean, even me, I I I would be happy for

people to think that I'm a good guy, but

when I look at that and I really am

honest about how much do I really hate

sin and then calling myself righteous,

I'd have a hard time doing that, right?

Especially in front of other people. But

the psalmist says he calls them the

righteous. He calls me the righteous.

Oh, that's that's tough. I mean, even my

conscience bothers me to be able to say

that. So, so, so how does that work? How

does that work? Now, I realize I've been

talking about righteous, but I never

really gave a real definition. Okay,

it's kind of the trick. Okay, so someone

told me I learned before when I was in

in Bible school that uh that that um

righteous sometimes it has the idea of

being related to being like a plum. Have

you ever seen this? This is a tool

that's got a weight on it and then it's

got a string on the top. And so what

carpenters or builders will use is they

will use this to set the straight line

for when they're going to build a wall.

So for example, all right. Uh so for

example, if I was building a wall and

I'm laying down my bricks, all right,

and then as I'm laying them down, I use

this plum to tell me whether the line is

straight or whether it's not straight.

So this tells me it's not straight. So

that's got to go, right? And so I got to

put another one there. And then now it

is straight or now it is righteous.

Okay. So your wall over here is it

righteous or not righteous. Okay. Well,

this term is used with God and and many

times we often think of righteous as

holy, pure, morally perfect. That's the

way often times we think of that. But

the thing is the idea of righteous is

not just merely moral perfection. Not

just merely rightness. But interestingly

enough, it means that you meet the

standard of what's required. So in that

sense, is God righteous? Yes, he meets

that holy perfect standard for

everything, right? In terms of justice,

in terms of mercy, in terms of love, in

terms of power. But more importantly,

usually this word righteous in the Old

Testament is used in terms of covenant.

Meaning that if you are righteous, that

means that you fulfill the requirements

of the covenant promise of God. And does

God do that? Yes. Perfectly.

So in his covenant promise where he

promises that that that he will be our

God and that we will be his people. In

his taking care of that and of that

promise, he does that perfectly. And so

this righteousness of God, this

relational and communal sense of it, it

means that in right relationship, in

God's planning on on God's fulfilling

requirements of the covenant that he

does that 100%. But then we know in the

history of the Old Testament and we know

in the history of probably our own

lives. Do we how do we do in terms of

fulfilling this promise of God of hating

sin, loving Jesus only, hating idols,

loving him with all of our hearts,

giving him our 100%. How do we do in

that? We're not that great at that if

we're honest. We're pretty bad actually.

Really, really bad at this. So as the

Lord is 100% completely righteous in the

way he fulfills that that is done in the

context of his relationship with us and

that's something that's super super

important that we need to understand. So

that means that if he fulfills all the

requirements of that what's interesting

is that in verse 11 the psalmist he says

light is sown for the righteous and joy

for the upright in heart. That means

sewing is like a farmer who takes seed

and he puts something in there and then

it grows. So then that becomes the

righteousness. So that means the

righteousness that we have as of as as a

people of God doesn't come from our own

but it comes from the Lord planting that

in us and it growing through his grace

and through his power only by that not

because we did all the right things not

because you you you uh give offering so

much or church all these things or you

pray so much not because of any of those

things but to know that this

righteousness comes because God is the

one that plants that in us. And of

course, we know that that happens when

we think about this awesome, awesome

glory and righteousness of God. We know

that that's ultimately accomplished on

the cross.

That's ultimately accomplished where the

God of the universe, he unclothed his

glory to be born as a human to die a

miserable death on the cross so that he

could then achieve righteousness and

give to us that righteousness as a gift.

Not because we know how to hate sin, not

because we do all these things, but by

his grace as we come surrendered to him.

And that's really as the key to how this

righteousness works. So then, so then he

can call us righteous. We who have

terrible mouths like I on the drive

here, I was complaining my wife to the

car in my car all the time, the whole

time to the about the cars. this

terrible terrible mouth who's come here

to speak share the word of God with you

that that could be declared righteous

only because of the blood of Jesus

not because of what we've done on

ourselves to know that that

righteousness when we look at that

should produce in us just this amazing

amazing amazing amazing sense of

response to him.

You know, one of the things I I was

watching this clip of um the lion, the

witch in the wardrobe. And if you

remember this really really famous line

where it says Alan is a lion, the lion,

the great lion. And then young Susan,

she replies, "Oh," said Susan, "I

thought he was a man. Is he quite safe?"

"I shall I shall rather uh I shall feel

rather nervous about meeting a lion."

And of course, we would all be nervous

meeting a lion, wouldn't we? But then

this is what the response is. Mr. Beaver

says safe. Who said anything about safe?

Of course he isn't safe, but he's good.

He's the king, I tell you. And here's

the thing. I thought about this a little

bit. He is good, but you know what? He

is a king, a roaring king that will maul

an enemy. But he will be safe and be

good especially to those who have a

relationship with him through Christ.

I mean when we think about that the

access that we have that we have to a

god a powerful awesome lion but even

greater than that as described in verse

the first part of Psalm 97 as we see

that awesome awesome God who's founded

in righteousness and because of his holy

character that he meets all the

requirements of the covenant for the

sake of our relationship his

relationship with us and That

awesomeness that he would stoop down,

die on the cross for you and me. That is

something to really be thankful for.

You know, these days like we kind of

very very kind of lovey lovey talk about

love of God, but you know what? to to

understand the love of God, it's it's

really not as powerful until you realize

how high he really is that he had to

stoop down this low to demonstrate the

love of God. When we understand the

depth of our sin and how we don't

deserve that love and how great he is,

that love is now huge in our eyes and in

our hearts and our understanding.

That's why when we we can look at his

great awesome power, his righteousness,

and that we can surrender ourselves to

him,

that we can be brave enough to expose

our hearts to him, and yet to understand

that in that shame, with everything

poured out, that that that that Jesus

would die for that very, very sin in our

lives. Man, that's reason to be

thankful. That's reason to sing. That's

reason to be happy to really.

And that's why when we look at the

righteousness of God, that's why we can

then rejoice.

And I want to challenge all of you. Some

of you, your relationship with the lion

is not really really there. And and and

some of us think we just have to do

things to try to appease the lion. BRING

HIM GOOD FOOD. BRING HIM GOOD THINGS.

And yet what we need to do is we need to

come surrendered to him and let him be

the king and let him touch us and change

us. And in that relationship then now we

can call him our good loving king. And

that we can serve him, love him with all

of our heart and that we would come

surrendered to him and sing his praises.

Let's pray.

I would just like to invite you with

your eyes closed for a moment

that when you think of who our Lord God

is,

is he a fiery fiery awesome awesome

presence

or is he like this cuddly little teddy

bear?

Is he a lion?

How do you feel? Are you scared?

Which is a natural reaction.

But then if you have that relationship

with him knowing that he is your God,

your father, and surrender to him,

then he can be this

unsafe lion.

But that's good and loving to you.

What is your right reaction to this

righteous king? Is it fear or is it love

and rejoicing?

Won't you take a moment to come and to

pray and just declare the things in your

heart that are not pleasing to him as an

act of hating that sin or whatever that

is. Just be honest. Reveal it. Say it to

him and then

just claim and ask for that forgiveness

to come and his loving kindness and his

faithfulness to you.

Would you take a moment just to pray

silently and then I'm going to close for

us before we finish with a song.

Oh heavenly king, you are the one and

only ruler of all the universe.

Many of us have maybe bad ideas of what

it means to be under a king. But help us

to know that Lord, you are the good. You

are the powerful king, but you are a

good king. that you are scary, terrible

in your power, but that because of Jesus

Christ that we can call you father.

We ask that you would teach us to learn

what it is to look at your righteousness

with joy in our hearts. that we'll be

ready to surrender our struggles and

doubts and questions and the idols that

we have in our hearts, the things of

other things that we love. That you

would teach us how to compare these

things with you to see how great and

awesome you are and yet how kind and

merciful and loving you are. and that it

would draw us to have a heart of thanks

and that we would just want to love you

with all of our hearts in no matter what

way we can. So we pray that you would

help us to learn what it means to look

at your righteousness

to be ready to be revealed what's in our

hearts but then also then to respond

with a heart of rejoicing and praise to

you. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen.

","":"
["GET
